  2. ^ For Windows, consider using AutoHotkey (about) to write a simple custom shortcut. E.g. making Alt+u → ŭ: !u::Send "{ŭ}" (and for upper case) !U::Send "{Ŭ}", etc.

    For Mac, go to keyboard language settings and enable the "ABC - Extended keyboard layout" (or make it your default; little difference in most cases). Once enabled, Alt+b then another letter inputs a breved letter.
