Thinkware Systems Corporation (Korean: 팅크웨어) is a South Korean company headquartered in Seongnam, South Korea. The company specializes in vehicle safety hardware (primarily dash cams) under the iNavi brand in South Korea.
Etymology
[edit]The name "Thinkware" is the combination of "Think" (focusing on new ideas) and "Ware" (building value on modern technological foundations)[1]
History
[edit]Thinkware was founded in South Korea on March 26, 1997 by Kim Jin-Beom, an engineer who graduated from the Department of Electrical Engineering at Seoul National University.
The company started with digital mapping software and portable GPS navigation systems for vehicles under its iNavi brand name.
Thinkware went public on the KOSDAQ stock exchange on May 18, 2006 (KRX: 084730).
Thinkware began diversifying its portfolio after smartphone-based mapping applications began replacing standalone GPS units. In 2010, the company launched its first automotive dash camera[2][3]. Dash cams subsequently became Thinkware's primary global focus and revenue driver.
On January 10, 2012, Kim Jin-Beom stepped down as the CEO of Thinkware and appointed Lee Heung-Bok as its new CEO.[4]
In 2022, Thinkware made it's first foray into the consumer camera market with Snap G[5], a handheld gimbal camera.
