Career
[edit]2011–2017: Pre-debut
[edit]Massie began training under Pledis in 2011 after passing an audition. For her first few years of training, she would fly to Seoul to train in during her school's summer break and spend the rest of the year in the US. Around 2014, Massie moved to Korea and lived in one of Pledis Entertainment's trainee dorms with fellow Korean American trainee Sungyeon.[4]
On August 18, 2014, Massie appeared in the music video for "My Copycat" by Orange Caramel along with several other trainees under Pledis.[5][6]
On March 23, 2016, Pledis announced that Massie would be a member of their pre-debut girl group Pledis Girlz. From May 14 to September 10, Massie would perform with Pledis Girlz at weekly concerts.[7][8] Pledis Girlz changed their name to Pristin at their final concert titled "BYE & HI".[9][10]
2017–2018: Activities with Pristin and extended hiatus
[edit]On March 21, 2017, Massie officially debuted as a member of Pristin.[11] On their debut EP, "Hi! Pristin", Massie is credited for songwriting on the track "Over n Over". Massie is also credited for writing on the tracks "You're My Boy" and "ALOHA" from Pristin's following release, "Schxxl Out".
After promotions for "Schxxl Out" finished, Massie had a routine medical check-up while resting in the United States for Chuseok. There, Massie's doctor noted a decline in her health and recommended she take a break. Pledis announced her hiatus on October 12. During her hiatus, Massie remained in her hometown of Los Angeles.[12][13]
