Requests for page protection

Current requests for increase in protection level

Request addition of protection to a page, or increasing the current protection level
Place requests for protection increases at the BOTTOM of this section. If you cannot find your request, check the archive of requests or the page history. Only recently answered requests are still listed here.

Indefinite extended confirmed protection: Almost every change over the past few months (aside from reverts and removing protection notice) has been disruptive, even before a semi-protection of one year ended. SNUGGUMS (talk / edits) 03:00, 4 October 2026 (UTC)

Temporary semi-protection: Persistent sockpuppetry – Sockpuppetry crossed with COI/UPE. The exact details of how many people are involved are a bit opaque because of the sockpuppetry but it appears to be at least two, including the article subject and someone paid to edit on her behalf. They have been asked to clarify this, stop engaging in sockpuppetry, and make the necessary disclosures (see here, here, here and here) but haven't done so.

They have a good faith desire to see the article updated and to see some unnecessary person info removed from it (which has now been done); but they are not using sources, removing existing sources and relevant info without explanation, and generally being disruptive. Protecting the page might prompt them to engage in discussion and lead to a resolution of these good faith concerns. AntiDionysius (talk) 15:33, 4 October 2026 (UTC)

Indefinite create protection: Repeatedly recreated – Per the relevant AFD, this should have been salted. The original creator circumvented the AfC process and is likely UPE. Jdcomix (talk) 00:13, 5 October 2026 (UTC)

Temporary extended confirmed protection: Persistent disruptive editing – A recently-registered user has made persistent low-quality edits to this page and simply restored them when they were reverted, incorrectly claiming that no explanation was given. Reverting these edits again would probably not be effective without preventing this editor from restoring them. Theemausoliam (talk) 03:59, 5 October 2026 (UTC)

Declined – Content dispute. Please use the article's talk page or other forms of dispute resolution. Lectonar (talk) 10:30, 5 October 2026 (UTC)

Reason: Brisbane Lions fans keep falsely claiming that this won them a premiership when it did not and keep adding it to the pages. Logged out users also keep vandalising the page with stuff about the lions such as "Lions won a prem with it" or "Lions own Wharfie Time now".

I would like to request a 3-6 month protection window while the hype from the 2026 AFL Grand Final dies down Flipstatic Energy (talk) 04:08, 5 October 2026 (UTC)

Temporary extended confirmed protection: Persistent disruptive editing – Persistent disruptive editing on this page and other Ahom-related pages. I think this falls under Contentious topics - South Asia. Theemausoliam (talk) 05:53, 5 October 2026 (UTC)

Reason: Promotional material has been added by a number of sockpuppets. https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/User:BManning08 https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/User:TheFinalCut1 https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/User:Upgrader101

After these accounts were banned the same edits are now being made by temporary accounts. https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Special:Contributions/~2026-50864-93 https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Special:Contributions/~2026-53104-86 Idontwantaaccount (talk) 07:06, 5 October 2026 (UTC)

Reason: Temporary extended confirmed protection: Persistent disruptive editing – Recent removal/reversion of sourced material and continued disruption by a new user connected to the same dispute affecting other Ahom-related articles like Joymoti Konwari and Ahom kingdom. The article falls within the South Asia contentious topic, and temporary extended-confirmed protection may help prevent further disruption. Ananya Taye (talk) 07:59, 5 October 2026 (UTC)

Temporary semi-protection: Persistent vandalism. Entranced98 (talk) 11:19, 5 October 2026 (UTC)

Reason: The stones weight has recently come out as false with recent and historic evidence including this academic source Þorsteinsson, Kristleifur. "Kvíarnar á Húsafelli og aflraunasteinn séra Snorra." Eimreiðin, vol. 29, no. 3, 1923, pp. 166-173. A used by the name of pictwarrior keeps changing the weight back and saying this source backs up his weight of 409. There are no sources or evidence for that matter the stone has ever weighed that much. Can you please protect the page with the stones weight at 156 kg (346 lbs) while we get this resolved? People have gotten injured training for the false weight and we're trying to prevent that M0UNTA!n85 (talk) 12:17, 5 October 2026 (UTC)

Current requests for reduction in protection level

Request removal of protection from a page, or reducing the current protection level

Reason: Protection was bumped from semi to extended confirmed in 2022 after a multi-day long vandal spree waged by a known LTA through multiple throwaway accounts. In the four years since, they are seemly inactive, with their last known account discovered on July 2023 (see Wikipedia:Sockpuppet investigations/Awolf58/Archive). With this in mind, it doesn't seem too unreasonable to give semi another wurl. Giovanni Potage (talk) 11:39, 5 October 2026 (UTC)

Reason: No longer nessecary. The sock responsible for protection has probably moved on, judging how long their last known account has been inactive for (see Wikipedia:Sockpuppet investigations/Stephaniemuue/Archive). Giovanni Potage (talk) 11:45, 5 October 2026 (UTC)

Requests for autopatrolled

Autopatrolled

I have created a range of articles in the past (mostly short biographies of scholars and clergy, along with a few conversions from the National Dictionary of Biography). These have not given rise to any substantial issues, and it occurs to me that it is probably not a good use of patrollers' time to have to review any articles I may write in future, given the backlog. I am a longstanding editor, and as a reasonably experienced NPP reviewer I am thoroughly familiar with the BLP and notability policies. Dionysodorus (talk | contribs) 22:21, 4 October 2026 (UTC)

Hey Dionysodorus, thanks for applying! I think there are a few things you could work on before you're ready for autopatrolled. I found a few uses of unreliable sources, which I've since removed or tagged, in Andrew Braddock (priest) and Lee Batson (you might find a citation highlighter useful for catching these ahead of time). And while Christopher Collard almost certainly meets the notability criteria for academics, the article is far too reliant on primary sources. Particularly in a BLP, these need to be treated with more care; for example, the claim "Collard is also known for his collaborations with Martin Cropp", cited to two books published by the pair, borders on original research in the way it overstates this fact. I'm going to call this  not done for now — please let me know if you have any questions! —TechnoSquirrel69 (talk) 05:06, 5 October 2026 (UTC)
@TechnoSquirrel69: I think some of that is debatable. As it says at WP:WHOSWHO, Who's Who is treated as a self-published source, which means that it's not reliable in general, but it's still reliable for information about the subject themself under WP:ABOUTSELF. I would like to put that back in to the articles on Batson and Braddock, because taking it out just leaves appropriately self-sourced information appearing to be without a reliable source when this is not actually the case, since Who's Who is reliable for this purpose under our guidelines.
As for Collard, he's clearly notable under WP:AUTHOR (multiple books with multiple reviews, which don't have to be cited in the article to contribute towards notability...) as well as WP:ACADEMIC. Almost all biographies about academics who aren't dead yet are based on primary sources to a large extent: after all, the whole premise of WP:ACADEMIC is that – as it says in the note at the top of the page – "Many scientists, researchers, philosophers, and other scholars (collectively referred to as "academics" for convenience) are notably influential in the world of ideas without their biographies being the subject of secondary sources". I agree that it would have been better to have said "have collaborated" rather than "are known for their collaborations", but it seems rather debatable whether it's actually OR to say that two scholars are known for their collaborations when they have published four widely reviewed volumes together in well-established series and when these volumes represent a large portion of both scholars' work.
Therefore, although I can see why you have formed the views that you express above, I still think that these articles are in the spirit of our policies and are appropriately sourced, and would not be a good use of an NPP reviewer's time, which ought rather to be spent looking for substantively unsourced BLPs, promo, AI use, and so forth. Very honestly: it doesn't fit my needs. I wish that I would be able to hunt for archive.today external links on other wikis; also, at many occasions it cannot find an alt, despite the alt exists (at another location, redirected). 🐠 formerly U.T. 02:31, 30 September 2026 (UTC)

I am requesting AWB/JWB access to assist with repetitive maintenance edits such as fixing wikilinks, formatting, and other routine cleanup. I understand that I am responsible for reviewing every edit and following the AWB guidelines. I am still building my editing experience and would like to use JWB carefully for appropriate repetitive tasks. YusHau (talk) 21:05, 29 September 2026 (UTC)

Hi YusHau, as explained in the green notice at the top of this section, "Users are rarely approved unless they have either 250 non-automated mainspace edits or 500 total mainspace edits". As you currently have 13 edits in mainspace, I am unable to approve your request.  Not done for now.
Additionally, most of your article edits to date appear to be LLM-generated (due to their edit summaries), including the edits you made after acknowledging a warning for LLM misuse. Please note that LLM misuse is disqualifying for permission requests, and persistent LLM misuse will lead to the loss of editing privileges. — Newslinger talk 11:57, 3 October 2026 (UTC)

I plan to semi-automate some typo fixes that I have already been making manually. I have completed several hundred of these edits, mainly removing incorrect spaces between the last word and the following punctuation mark.

I would like to request AWB/JWB access, as these tools would be very useful for handling this type of repetitive maintenance work more efficiently. My intended workflow is to identify the relevant cases, apply the correction, review the result, and save the edit.

I understand that I remain responsible for reviewing every edit and for following the AWB/JWB guidelines. I am still building my editing experience and intend to use JWB carefully and only for appropriate repetitive maintenance tasks. Score Beethoven (talk) 09:47, 30 September 2026 (UTC)

Requests for extended confirmation

Extended confirmed

I am requesting the restoration of my Extended Confirmed rights.

My previous request from September 6th wasn't approved by voorts based on generic claims ("This request seems LLM-generated to me" and "There are several AI tells in your request"), but when I explicitly asked what those tells were, no explanation or text examples were provided.

I need to state clearly again: I do not use AI. English is not my native language, and my use of dictionaries and Google Translate to verify phrasing is what triggers false positives on automated detectors. This is not the first time this has happened to me, and I face a lot of unfair suspicion on Wikipedia as a result. Ignoring a non-native speaker's explanation and leaving generic AI accusations unexplained does not align with community values.

A major reason I need this permission is to access the Content Translation tool. I have manually translated and created over 30 articles on this wiki, and not having this tool limits my ability to contribute.

I have carefully reviewed past administrator feedback regarding extended confirmed requirements after a revocation and implemented them before submitting this request. Following the expected standard, I have focused strictly on manual, constructive work in the mainspace. Since losing the permission (at around 560 edits), I have made over 570 additional manual, documented, and productive edits in the mainspace, bringing my current total to over 1,130 edits.

My recent notable contributions include researching and creating Non ædificandi from scratch and expanding Impasse Florimont, which was manually cleaned up, reviewed, and upgraded to B-Class status.

I am NOT using LLMs. I am a REAL human editor who wishes to continue contributing to the English Wikipedia, and I am asking to please restore my Extended Confirmed rights.

Thank you. The Regulator 1 (talk) 11:53, 28 September 2026 (UTC)

I rarely use LLM detectors. I'm not sharing what the tells are because then you would know how to avoid them. Another admin will evaluate this request on its merits and see if I was wrong. voorts (talk/contributions) 12:58, 28 September 2026 (UTC)
Also, you don't need XC to translate articles. You can translate to draft and then move the page to mainspace yourself or submit it through AfC. voorts (talk/contributions) 20:47, 28 September 2026 (UTC)
Can you please contribute without the use of a translation tool? Sufficient English competence is required to edit on the English Wikipedia. If your English is not good enough to write articles or talk with other editors without the use of translation tools, I would suggest editing on your native language's wiki. voorts (talk/contributions) 20:49, 28 September 2026 (UTC)
(Non-administrator comment) Based on my impressions, it looks like this user probably wrote the request by hand in their native language, and then used an AI translation tool to translate it to English. Maayaaaaa (talk) 13:39, 28 September 2026 (UTC)

Requests for new page reviewer

New page reviewer

I have now done quite a lot on AFC and reviewed quite a few articles, showing that I understand content policies. Furthermore, if you look at my interactions, you can see that I have always acted civilly and resolved any disputes. From my Counter Vandalism Work, you can see that I always inform a user when I revert their edit; the same happens with AFC (through the AFC helper).

I would primarily like this role as a counter-vandalism tool so that I can remove pages that are obviously vandalism, as I think that this is an important thing to do. I would also review other pages in order to help ease the backlog.

I would finally like to thank anyone who reviews this request.

Cheers,

Haggis MacHaggis, can you comment on your reviews of 418 (film), Sleepwalk (album), The Legend (2005 film), The Tank Man (2004), Dead Company, Sky Scrappers? signed, Rosguill talk 14:04, 30 September 2026 (UTC)
hi, regarding my reviews, in hindsight...
• 418 is based entirely on trailer coverage/promotional sites, not the film -> independent reviews/critics should be added, among others.
• Sleepwalk lacks extra independent sources + 3 of the 6 refs all link to AllMusic... -> Again, extra reviews (that discuss the album) should be added here -if available...
• The Legend and The Tank Man both have production company sources: not neutral. The Legend also lacks extra reliable independent sources.
To my opinion :o)
• Dead Company and Sky Scrappers were already reviewed in August. The first one was discussed earlier: too many sources based on the same press release, yet the "reviewed" status was not removed afterwards... Sky Scrappers appears notable, but the article needs expanding.
In summary, most articles should have had additional neutral sources ...

2: I have reviewed many articles at AfC and very active in AfD. I also write articles (stub) for politician outside North America and Europe (for which I got barnstar), particularly politicians from Africa and India.
3: I don't qualify for this now but I greet new users earlier (for which I got barnstar).

Not done; you have just 211 mainspace edits when 500 is the bare minimum. The article you submitted as an exemplar looks like WP:ADMASQ and shows no evidence that you understand notability. @Critical Hippo, I'm curious why three dead links (, , ) were added as sources to this newly created article. What tools did you use to write and research this? Dclemens1971 (talk) 21:09, 2 October 2026 (UTC)
I heed your point on the edits. I dispute your point on WP:ADMASQ. I will examine the sources in question as I was not aware they were dead, thank you for bringing them to my attention. I do not quite understand your question on tools? Critical Hippo (talk) 21:47, 2 October 2026 (UTC)
@Critical Hippo LLMs will often pull dead links when they're used to draft articles, and will sometimes hallucinate links entirely, whereas editors who search for sources manually, read them, and then copy them into the article tend not to copy dead links. Dead links in brand-new articles is an indicator that an editor used AI to write the article. Dclemens1971 (talk) 21:58, 2 October 2026 (UTC)

Hello,

I believe I am eligible to obtain reviewer status. My account is over the minimum of 90 days old (been here since December), and has a history of I believe at least 500 undeleted edits (reaching around 6000 edits in general in total). I have also not engaged in incivil behavior to others, and I understand WP's policies in regarding matters.

One mistake I made prior to submitting a request here, was that I declined one draft myself without knowing you needed to apply first until now. Will this exempt me now from being able to review?

Please let me know. Thank you for taking your time. Sharkeston (talk) 17:20, 4 October 2026 (UTC)

Hello I would like to have pending changes reviewer rights, I routinely edit on my account with 500 edits in the past 3 weeks. I also have never participated in vandalism and routinely make productive edits. I have read Policy On Vandalism, Policy On Copyright, and I understand that I must obtain a neutral point of view and the guideline on reviewing. Reason for requesting rollback rights: I’ve been an RC patroller for better part of a year now. Rollback rights will help me counter vandalism more effectively, especially when I have to undo contributions of editors with a disruptive editing history, editors with single-purpose COI accounts, and editors who have been blocked. I’d also like to use the suite of tools that rollback rights come with including CVPI and Huggle. I will not use rollback rights to settle content disputes (I don’t get into many either way). I hope that my main space contributions so far, and my experience with the platform + RC patrol will attest to my intentions. Thanks! Baberoothless (talk) 15:46, 25 September 2026 (UTC)

Hi Baberoothless, you meet all of the criteria listed in the green notice at the top of the section, except for "A track record of consistently notifying editors when reverting their edits." While your reverts are sometimes accompanied by user talk page notices, some of your recent reverts were not: . Based on this, I am declining your request at this time, but if you can demonstrate a track record of properly warning editors after reverting unconstructive edits (which is most easily done with Twinkle, which you have been using, or with Ultraviolet), then your next request for this permission would be stronger.  Not done for now. — Newslinger talk 05:51, 4 October 2026 (UTC)

Hi 16dvnk, because you have recently added LLM-generated content to an article (see Special:Diff/1371919576 at Cognitive robotic abstract machine, which added two LLM-generated citations, including an invalid URL in #7 and invalid DOI in #8), I am unable to accept your request because LLM misuse is disqualifying for permission requests. Please ensure that your future edits follow the WP:LLM guideline and the other AI-related policies and guidelines listed at WP:AIPOLICY.  Not done for now. — Newslinger talk 13:16, 4 October 2026 (UTC)
Thanks for telling me. It was a while ago so I do not really recall everything. In that diff, I think I used some sort of LLM, but then only checked for AI minutes after I applied the diff (which was fixed after). Currently the article is free of AI content, but I apologize if even that was a violation of AI policy. Thanks for telling me, and in the future I will ensure something like that will not happen again. Thanks for your time. 16dvnk (talk) 14:25, 4 October 2026 (UTC)

Requests for temporary account IP viewer

Temporary account IP viewer

I do a good amount of vandalism reverting, which some of the vandals that I deal with are multiple different temporary accounts vandalising pages in short periods of time. It would be nice to know if they are using the same IP address, so that why I can appropriately report the vandals to AIV. I promise that I will not inappropriately use the tool. I'm experienced in reverting & reporting vandals, so I think having this right would allow me to investigate more edits done by the same vandal (or disruptive editor), or maybe reporting multiple TAs of the same person. Edit: Yes, I agree to use it accordingly with the foundation's guidelines, FYI. Jako96 (talk) 13:51, 1 October 2026 (UTC)

Hi Jako96, this incident is too recent to justify granting the permission at this time, but you are welcome to reapply after showing a longer track record of constructive communication with temporary account users.  Not done for now. — Newslinger talk 11:00, 3 October 2026 (UTC)
Hello. First, thanks for answering and I already kind of predicted that this request would be rejected because of that (although I still think that having this right doesn't directly have to do with civility, but I guess there are concerns about good/bad faith, which I understand). I again apologize for my behaviour there, something like that will never happen again. Can I ask you that how much time I would need for such a request? Or maybe how much patrolling type of stuff? I'd greatly appreciate your reply. Again, thanks! Jako96 (talk) 11:07, 3 October 2026 (UTC)
Because it is likely that another administrator would review your next request, I am reluctant to provide a specific timeframe that could limit the administrator's discretion. However, I have a suggestion: if you spend some time assisting temporary account users with tailored responses instead of issuing warning templates, this would show the positive track record in communication that I mentioned. This is not required, and is something I would only do if the personalized message is likely to make a significant difference, but it would strengthen your next request for this permission. — Newslinger talk 11:26, 3 October 2026 (UTC)
I'll try my best in trying your advice. Thanks again! Jako96 (talk) 11:37, 3 October 2026 (UTC)
Although I was the one with the most mistakes in that case and note that the decline here and the block is fair in that incident, please note that the IPs actually DID add unsourced info and cast aspersions about me and also DID show uncivility and an admin also wasn't too kind as usual. :) I again apologize for my behaviour there, I shouldn't have turned a small thing into such a big issue. I also apologize from all the admins who had to see that. Again, thank you for your reply. Jako96 (talk) 11:12, 3 October 2026 (UTC)

I have brought a number of sockpuppet investigations, and also been involved with some LTAs using a set of IP ranges. I think one of these has returned, but can't bring informed AIV or SPI cases as I cannot tell which of the socks this relates to. Likely to be useful in future SPI and LTA abuse at AfD too.
