Redirects for discussion (RfD) is the place where potentially problematic redirects are discussed. Items usually stay listed for a week or so, after which they are deleted, kept, or retargeted.

  • If you want to replace an unprotected redirect with an article, do not list it here. Turning redirects into articles is wholly encouraged. Be bold!
  • If you want to move a page but a redirect is in the way, do not list it here. For non-controversial cases, place a technical request; if a discussion is required, then start a requested move.
  • If you think a redirect points to the wrong target article, this is a good place to discuss the proper target.
  • Redirects should not be deleted just because they have no incoming links. Please do not use this as the only reason to delete a redirect. However, redirects that do have incoming links are sometimes deleted, so that is not a sufficient condition for keeping. (See § When to delete a redirect for more information.)

Please do not unilaterally rename or change the target of a redirect while it is under discussion. This adds unnecessary complication to the discussion for participants and closers.

Current and past redirects for discussion (RfD) discussions

[edit]

Current discussions

[edit]

Redirects that have been nominated for discussion are indexed by the day on which they were first listed.

Old discussions

[edit]

After 7 days, nominations that have finished their discussion period are eligible to be closed following the deletion process.

Before listing a redirect for discussion

[edit]

Please be aware of these general policies, which apply here as elsewhere:

The guiding principles of RfD

[edit]
  • The purpose of a good redirect is to eliminate the possibility that readers will find themselves staring blankly at "Search results 1–10 out of 378" instead of the article they were looking for. If someone could plausibly enter the redirect's name when searching for the target article, it's a good redirect.
  • Redirects are cheap. They take up little storage space and use very little bandwidth. It doesn't really hurt things if there are a few of them scattered around. On the flip side, deleting redirects is also cheap because recording the deletion takes up little storage space and uses very little bandwidth. There is no harm in deleting problematic redirects.
  • If a good-faith RfD nomination proposes to delete a redirect and has no discussion after at least 7 days, the default result is delete.
  • Redirects nominated in contravention of Wikipedia:Redirect will be speedily kept.
  • RfD can also serve as a central discussion forum for debates about which page a redirect should target. In cases where retargeting the redirect could be considered controversial, it is advisable to leave a notice on the talk page of the redirect's current target page or the proposed target page to refer readers to the redirect's nomination to allow input and help form consensus for the redirect's target.
  • Requests for deletion of redirects from one page's talk page to another's do not need to be listed here. Anyone can remove the redirect by blanking the page. The G6 criterion for speedy deletion may be appropriate.
  • In discussions, always ask yourself whether or not a redirect would be helpful to the reader.

When to delete a redirect

[edit]

The major reasons why deletion of redirects is harmful are:

  • a redirect may contain non-trivial edit history;
  • if a redirect is reasonably old (or is the result of moving a page that has been there for quite some time), then it is possible that its deletion will break incoming links (such as links coming from older revisions of Wikipedia pages, from edit summaries, from other Wikimedia projects or from elsewhere on the internet, do not show up in "What links here").

Therefore consider the deletion only of either harmful redirects or of recent ones.

Reasons for deleting

[edit]

You might want to delete a redirect if one or more of the following conditions is met:

  1. The redirect page makes it unreasonably difficult for users to locate similarly named articles via the search engine. For example, if the user searches for "New Articles", and is redirected to a disambiguation page for "Articles" (itself a redirect to "Article"), it would take much longer to get to the newly added articles on Wikipedia.
  2. The redirect might cause confusion. For example, if "Adam B. Smith" was redirected to "Andrew B. Smith", because Andrew was accidentally called Adam in one source, this could cause confusion with the article on Adam Smith, so the redirect should be deleted.
  3. The redirect is offensive or abusive, such as redirecting "Joe Bloggs is a Loser" to "Joe Bloggs" (unless "Joe Bloggs is a Loser" is legitimately discussed in the article), or "Joe Bloggs" to "Loser". (Speedy deletion criterion G10 and G3 may apply.) See also § Neutrality of redirects.
  4. The redirect constitutes self-promotion or spam. (Speedy deletion criterion G11 may apply.)
  5. The redirect makes no sense, such as redirecting "Apple" to "Banana". (Speedy deletion criterion G1 may apply.)
  6. It is a cross-namespace redirect out of article space, such as one pointing into the User or Wikipedia namespace. The major exception to this rule are the pseudo-namespace shortcut redirects, which technically are in the main article space. Some long-standing cross-namespace redirects are also kept because of their long-standing history and potential usefulness. "MOS:" redirects, for example, were an exception to this rule until they became their own namespace in 2024. (Note also the existence of namespace aliases such as WP:. Speedy deletion criterion R2 may apply if the target namespace is something other than Category:, Template:, Wikipedia:, Help:, or Portal:.)
  7. If the redirect is broken, meaning it redirects to an article that does not exist, it can be immediately deleted under speedy deletion criterion G8. You should check that there is not an alternative place it could be appropriately redirected to first and that it has not become broken through vandalism.
  8. If the redirect is a novel or very obscure synonym for an article name that is not mentioned in the target, it is unlikely to be useful. In particular, redirects in a language other than English to a page whose subject is unrelated to that language (or a culture that speaks that language) should generally not be created. (Implausible typos or misnomers are candidates for speedy deletion criterion R3, if recently created.) The message template may be useful.
  9. If the target article needs to be moved to the redirect title, but the redirect has been edited before and has a history of its own, then the title needs to be freed up to make way for the move. If the move is uncontroversial, tag the redirect for G6 speedy deletion, or alternatively (with the suppressredirect user right; available to page movers and admins), perform a round-robin move. If not, take the article to Requested moves.
  10. If the redirect could plausibly be expanded into an article, and the target article contains virtually no information on the subject.
  11. If the redirect ends in "(disambiguation)" but does not target a disambiguation page or a page performing a disambiguation-like function (such as a set index of articles). Speedy deletion criterion G14 may apply.

Reasons for not deleting

[edit]

However, avoid deleting such redirects if:

  1. They have a potentially useful page history, or an edit history that should be kept to comply with the licensing requirements for a copy or merge (see Wikipedia:Copying within Wikipedia and Wikipedia:Merge and delete). On the other hand, if the redirect was created by renaming a page with that name, and the page history just mentions the renaming, and for one of the reasons above you want to delete the page, copy the page history to the Talk page of the article it redirects to. The act of renaming is useful page history, and even more so if there has been discussion on the page name.
  2. They would aid accidental linking and make the creation of duplicate articles less likely, whether by redirecting a plural to a singular, by redirecting a frequent misspelling to a correct spelling, by redirecting a misnomer to a correct term, by redirecting to a synonym, etc. In other words, redirects with no incoming links are not candidates for deletion on those grounds because they are of benefit to the browsing user. Some extra vigilance by editors will be required to minimize the occurrence of those frequent misspellings in article text because the linkified misspellings will not appear as broken links; consider tagging the redirect with the R from misspelling template to assist editors in monitoring these misspellings.
  3. They aid searches on certain terms. For example, users who might see the "Keystone State" mentioned somewhere but do not know what that refers to will be able to find out at the Pennsylvania (target) article.
  4. Deleting redirects runs the risk of breaking incoming or internal links. For example, redirects resulting from page moves should not normally be deleted without good reason. Links that have existed for a significant length of time, including CamelCase links (e.g. WolVes) and old subpage links, should be retained in case there are any existing links on external pages pointing to them. Please tag these with R from old history. See also Wikipedia:Link rot § Link rot on non-Wikimedia sites.
  5. Someone finds them useful. Hint: If someone says they find a redirect useful, they probably do. You might not find it useful—this is not because the other person is being untruthful, but because you browse Wikipedia in different ways. Evidence of usage can be gauged by using the wikishark or pageviews tool on the redirect to see the number of views it gets.
  6. The redirect is to a closely related word form, such as a plural form to a singular form.

Neutrality of redirects

[edit]

Just as article titles using non-neutral language are permitted in some circumstances, so are such redirects. Because redirects are less visible to readers, more latitude is allowed in their names, therefore perceived lack of neutrality in redirect names is not a sufficient reason for their deletion. In most cases, non-neutral but verifiable redirects should point to neutrally titled articles about the subject of the term. Non-neutral redirects may be tagged with R from non-neutral name.

Non-neutral redirects are commonly created for three reasons:

  1. Articles that are created using non-neutral titles are routinely moved to a new neutral title, which leaves behind the old non-neutral title as a working redirect (e.g. ClimategateClimategate → Climatic Research Unit email controversy).
  2. Articles created as POV forks may be deleted and replaced by a redirect pointing towards the article from which the fork originated (e.g. Barack Obama Muslim rumorBarack Obama Muslim rumor → deleted and now redirected to Barack Obama religion conspiracy theories).
  3. The subject matter of articles may be represented by some sources outside Wikipedia in non-neutral terms. Such terms are generally avoided in Wikipedia article titles, per the words to avoid guidelines and the general neutral point of view policy. For instance the non-neutral expression "AttorneygateAttorneygate" is used to redirect to the neutrally titled 2006 dismissal of U.S. attorneys. The article in question has never used that title, but the redirect was created to provide an alternative means of reaching it because a number of press reports use the term.

The exceptions to this rule are redirects that are not established terms and are unlikely to be useful, and therefore may be nominated for deletion, perhaps under deletion reason #3. However, if a redirect represents an established term that is used in multiple mainstream reliable sources, it should be kept even if non-neutral, as it will facilitate searches on such terms. Please keep in mind that RfD is not the place to resolve most editorial disputes.

Closing notes

[edit]

Nominations should remain open, per policy, about a week before they are closed, unless they meet the general criteria for speedy deletion, the criteria for speedy deletion of a redirect, or are not valid redirect discussion requests (e.g. are actually move requests).

How to list a redirect for discussion

[edit]
STEP I.
Tag the redirect(s).

  Enter at the very end of the page.

  • Please include in the edit summary the phrase:
    Nominated for RfD: see Wikipedia:Redirects for discussion.
  • Please do not mark the edit as minor (m).
  • Save the page ("Publish changes").
  • If you are unable to edit the redirect page because of protection, this step can be omitted, and after step 2 is completed, a request to add the RFD template can be put on the redirect's talk page.
  • If the redirect you are nominating is in template namespace, consider adding |showontransclusion=1 to the RfD tag so that people using the template redirect are aware of the nomination. If it is an inline template, use |showontransclusion=tiny instead.
  • If you are nominating multiple redirects as a group, repeat all the above steps for each redirect being nominated and specify on rfd the nomination's group heading from Wikipedia:Redirects for discussion
STEP II.
List the entry on RfD.

 Click here to edit the section of RfD for today's entries.

  • Enter this text below the date heading:
~~~~
  • For this template:
    • Put the redirect's name in place of RedirectName, put the target article's name in place of TargetArticle, and include a reason after text=.
    • Note that, for this step, the "target article" is the current target of the redirect (if you have a suggestion for a better target, include this in the text that you insert after text=).
  • Please use an edit summary such as:
    Nominating RedirectName
    (replacing RedirectName with the name of the redirect you are nominating).
  • To list multiple related redirects for discussion, use the following syntax. Repeat line 2 for N number of redirects:
~~~~
  • If the redirect has had previous RfDs, you can add previous RfD without brackets directly after the rfd2 template.
  • If appropriate, inform members of the most relevant WikiProjects through one or more "deletion sorting lists". Then add a template to the nomination, to insert a note that this has been done.
STEP III.
Notify users.

  It is generally considered good practice to notify the creator and main contributors of the redirect(s) that you nominate.

To find the main contributors, look in the page history of the respective redirect(s). For convenience, the template

~~~~
may be placed on the creator/main contributors' user talk page to provide notice of the discussion. Please replace RedirectName with the name of the respective creator/main contributors' redirect and use an edit summary such as:
Notice of redirect discussion at Wikipedia:Redirects for discussion.
Notices about the RfD discussion may also be left on relevant talk pages.
  • Please consider using What links here to locate other redirects that may be related to the one you are nominating. After going to the redirect target page and selecting "What links here" in the toolbox on the left side of your computer screen, select both "Hide transclusions" and "Hide links" filters to display the redirects to the redirect target page.
Semitic Pagan deities
[edit]
Nominating Semitic Pagan deities for: deletion, move to Semitic pagan deities, and/or target change to Ancient Semitic religion.
Deletion reason:
Further considerations:
  • for: does not seem likely to be be accidental link given scant use, but metrics to contrary welcome;
  • for: a proper article created in namespace would not be a duplicate as per above;
  • against: might aid search, though a target change would be needed, as 236 views have been recorded since January 1 2020 as per pageviews.
Move reason:
Target change reason:
  • topical scope: redirect to Canaanite religion ostensibly relates to a subtopic of the broader issue of Semitic paganism, and so a redirect to a laterally equivalent issue (Semitic religions) is preferable; presumably, one using such general nomenclature specifically wants information targeted at the general level, lest they would have searched for more specific nomenclature.
Summary: Redirect Semitic Pagan deities should be either deleted or moved, and if moved then likely retargeted, for title violations and ambiguity.— Preceding unsigned comment added by HiddenHistoryPedia (talk • contribs) 14:52, 1 October 2026 (UTC)reply
Changing to Delete. It seems implausible considering an error occurred here when searching: . I did overlook, misread, or howvever you want to describe it and didn't notice that "i" in "Swift" is also missing. Servite et contribuere (talk) 16:35, 1 October 2026 (UTC)reply
Alison Swift
[edit]
Delete as a partial title match, Taylor Swift is not known by her middle name. -- Tavix (talk) 14:13, 1 October 2026 (UTC)reply
Delete as nom puts out, she is not known by her middle name, and this is an inappropriate usage of her middle name for a redirect, as Swift is a moderately common last name, and the family of Alison/Allison/Alyson/Allyson names is also highly common. Servite et contribuere (talk) 15:47, 1 October 2026 (UTC)reply
Delete because Taylor Swift is not known by her middle name, and her middle name is not used on album and single covers and is almost never used in media reports and publications. I hardly doubt that readers search for "Alison Swift" when they actually look for "Taylor Swift", or that they want to type all three names but accidentally miss the word "Taylor". Craig Tomashoff
[edit]
No mention of a Craig Tomashoff in the article. I did some research before nominating this and it does not seem like these two people are connected to one another. The article mentions Caragh being trans, however upon checking the sources, Craig's name does not appear to be mentioned anywhere. I also checked Google and did not find anymore information. Delete Gavetheman555 (talk) 16:00, 20 September 2026 (UTC)reply
Craig Tomashoff was Donley's deadname and what she went by most of her career. Here is her LinkedIn ("Caragh Donley Tomashoff") and her Facebook where she openly posts about coming out and her career. At the bottom of her op-ed with The Huffington Post (I Hid My True Identity For Decades. Here's What Happened When I Finally Revealed Myself At 63.), it states "She’s the author of The Can’t-idates: Running for President When Nobody Knows Your Name.", which a google search will show was written by "Craig Tomashoff" (see ). -- Willthacheerleader18 (talk) 16:09, 20 September 2026 (UTC)reply
This interview with her may also be helpful: "A few years ago, I learned that my biological dad had died before I was born but nobody ever told me. I grew up thinking the stepdad who raised me WAS my biological dad, and since he is the child of Russian immigrants, I just always assumed that made me Russian. However, after digging into all this information (it’ll all be in the book I’m trying to so…reassure me you’ll buy a copy to learn more), it turns out my real dad was from Irish stock. Hence, I wanted an Irish name and Caragh means “friend” or “beloved” in Gaelic. Plus, Donley is my real dad’s last name so I wanted to pay tribute to him that way as well." -- Willthacheerleader18 (talk) 16:21, 20 September 2026 (UTC)reply
  • Either delete or mention in the target, readers will be as confused as nom especially given the last names differ as well. I haven't checked whether a mention is merited under WP:DEADNAME - if she went by it most of her career then it seems plausible, but as always we should lean towards excluding it if uncertain. Rusalkii (talk) 17:33, 20 September 2026 (UTC)reply
  • What Rusalkii said. There's probably a good argument that the subject was notable pre-transition, but currently all of the sources are post-transition. We don't surreptitiously deadname people via redirects, but the redirect would be appropriate if her deadname were legitimately included in the target. pburka (talk) 19:49, 20 September 2026 (UTC)reply
Air Korea
[edit]
"Air Korea" is not mentioned anywhere on this page. Judging by the history, it was a placeholder name before the airline commenced operations, but was never used. Contrary to what the misuse of a "MOS:" prefix here implies, the target page isn't actually from the WP:Manual of Style (MOS), and there is no benefit of misleading people into thinking they'll go to a MOS page when clicking this shortcut. WikiProjects are very much a separate entity and it shouldn't be treated as synonymous or on similar levels to that. It is best to delete when I cannot think of any viable alternative for a retarget. This currently blue-linked name gives the mistaken impression that there is some content regarding subject. Space4Time3Continuum2x ended this redirect's 27 February 2026 edit summary with the words, "Don't know why this redirect was done in the first place". I came upon the original redirect at New York investigations of the Trump Organization which doesn't mention Ticktin at all since he didn't represent Trump or the Trump Organization in that case. Ticktin was one of four lawyers who represented Trump in his Florida lawsuit against Hillary Clinton, John Podesta, and others. I just removed the names of the three non-notable lawyers, including Ticktin, from Alina Habba's article. Ticktin is a conspiracy theorist and 2020 election denier who knows Trump from high school (military school); he's been practicing law in southern Florida since around the time Trump bought Mar-a-Lago but that's about the extent of his notability or lack thereof so far. Template:Relist
[edit]
This template name is a common typo for reflist, leading to XfD relist notices being displayed where they should not be displayed, with no indication that this is an error. I recommend that either (a) something clever be done to display an error message when this template name is used, or (b) this redirect be deleted and not recreated after all 100+ transclusions have been replaced (manually) with the correct template, and scripts have been updated as needed (I don't see any recent script-based placement of this template, but it might be hiding somewhere). – Jonesey95 (talk) 22:40, 30 September 2026 (UTC)reply
  • I note that none of the transclusions are in article or wikipedia namespaces (apart from a single occurrence in an old RfD); almost all are in user sandboxes or user subpages entitled "citing sources", created with the edit history "automatic post as part of sandbox guided tour". I can't quickly find where the sources for that guided tour live, but I assume that the typo existed in a previous version and has now been fixed. Assuming that to be the case, delete to avoid future recurrence. Rosbif73 (talk) 08:32, 1 October 2026 (UTC)reply
    I found the guided tour and walked through it. It recommends "Reflist" but may have had a typo in the past (it's run a bunch of JavaScript that I didn't have access to). Also, the recommendation in the tour required/requires new editors to manually type "Reflist" into the Visual Editor template selection dialog, which may have been subject to error. Without a bunch of further research, I don't know if the errors were caused by a typo in the JavaScript instructions or by editors making typos. Given the volume of errors, I suspect the former. In any event, "relist" seems like a likely typo for "reflist" and does not appear to be used by XfD, which is all or mostly script-driven anyway, so a shortcut template name should not be needed. [Caveat: This whole talk page post contains a bunch of guesses and surmises. Actual facts are welcome.] – Jonesey95 (talk) 15:51, 1 October 2026 (UTC)reply
Adams-Taylor House
[edit]
Not mentioned in target article: houses associated with Adams are mentioned, nothing of this name. PamD 22:03, 30 September 2026 (UTC)reply
The following lines refer directly to this house, as outlined in the cited NRHP nomination: "By 1844, the court clerk, Palmer, owned the house, which he sold in 1859 to William Taylor. Taylor transformed the house into an Italianate-style brick and stucco mansion. The building grew from six to 20 rooms, as well as added another storey." The NRHP refers to this building as the Taylor-Wilkins House; both are listed as aliases in the associated Wikidata item Kobenon (talk) 22:18, 30 September 2026 (UTC)reply
But there is nothing in the article to identify anything as "Adams-Taylor House". PamD 05:48, 1 October 2026 (UTC)reply
Line of dialogue
[edit]
Current target is especially surprising/misleading. Other possibilities would be things like Dialogue in writing, Screenplay, etc, but my inclination here would just be to delete as somewhat vague and an unlikely way to search for anything specific. –Deacon Vorbis (carbon • videos) 20:51, 30 September 2026 (UTC)reply
Retarget to Infinite (disambiguation) as r from plural. External search results for "infinites" are very mixed on my end; I don't see a primary topic there. Scholar results show this is widely used in mathematical contexts as a synonym for infinite numbers, often contrasted with infinitesimals. Internal search results are equally mixed, including philosophical and mathematical references to the general concept (eg. "Cantor's method of infinites", references to "arithmetic of infinites" in the works of Thomas Taylor, etc.), in addition to a couple mentions of Marvel's "Infinites" and the short story The Infinites. If there's no primary topic for the singular, I doubt there's one for the plural. – Scyrme (talk/solidarity) 20:00, 30 September 2026 (UTC)reply
HBO Max is a streaming service, not a corporation, so there is no "HBO Max Corporation". Home Box Office, Inc. is the "HBO Corporation", but HBO Max is run by Warner Bros. Streaming so it would not make sense to retarget these. -- Tavix (talk) 17:58, 30 September 2026 (UTC)reply
These random snippets of mathematical notation occur in countless places.   • It's easy to find sources saying that "cyber service" means virtual volunteering, so if it is retargeted, we should add a hatnote. Disambiguation is an option. Oppose retargeting to List of computer security companies, which is certainly too narrow a topic (cybersecurity as opposed to online services in general). Neither of the titles under discussion mention security. —Mx. Granger (talk · contribs) 20:05, 26 September 2026 (UTC)reply
    • It's easy to find sources saying that "cyber service" means virtual volunteering
      It largely depends on the scenario here. In this case, cybersecurity seems more applicable here. Search results yield sources pertaining to said topic. In addition, "cyberservice" is a used initialism for "cybersecurity services".
      Neither of the titles under discussion mention security.
      May you provide some further context to this part of your rationale here? Utility guy
Would be a bit surprised if led to the current target by this title. My first thought would be 'utility worker' (as in e.g. Utility Workers Union of America); anecdotally used, for example, "when is the utility guy supposed to be here?" My first thought is something along the lines of moon face in regard to this term. Apparently it is a common descriptor of helmets as well. Should this remain targeted to portraiture? — Godsy (TALKCONT) 11:22, 30 September 2026 (UTC)reply
Keep. Moon face doesn't work since it's a medical symptom, whereas this is more about face shape ("a full face"). I haven't been able to find a Wikipedia article about face shapes, surprisingly. The section "face shape" redirects to is vague, oddly technical, and doesn't discuss particular commonly used expressions like 'round', 'square', 'full', 'gaunt', etc. faces. There's nothing there that would be helpful to a reader searching for the topic.
As far as I'm aware full-face masks/helmets aren't just called "full faces" so those topics are only partial title matches for Motorcycle helmet § Full face helmet, Full-face diving mask, Full-face snorkel mask, etc. Disambiguation isn't needed for PTMs. – Scyrme (talk/solidarity) 14:05, 30 September 2026 (UTC)reply
I personally searched for this term when trying to wikilink "job" - the top search results (using visual editing UI) doesn't include the article.
The "a" is there to identify the word as a common noun.
"A dog" is unnecessary because there's nothing to disambiguiate - there's only one dog. "Job" is one hell a word to disambig. 海盐沙冰 / aka irisChronomia / Talk / Uploads 10:46, 30 September 2026 (UTC)reply
It does - but it is kinda annoying to have to click into a disambg page before returning and searching for the actual target. (It's kind of like just opening a new tab and Googling for the Wikipedia article).
But I don't mind if we delete it - it's likely not a big deal in any case. 海盐沙冰 / aka irisChronomia / Talk / Uploads 11:01, 30 September 2026 (UTC)reply
Lean delete. "A job" is justifiable on the basis that it's an obvious and natural way to search directly for job (role) without going through a disambiguation page. "A dog" shows non-negligible traffic suggesting people do use it. However, previous discussions noted that titles that unnecessarily include an indefinite article ("a"/"an") crowds up searches for unrelated titles. (See All pages with titles containing a job and All pages with titles containing a dog for examples.) These targets are not difficult to find, so I'm not yet persuaded that an exception should be made for these. – Scyrme (talk/solidarity) 13:38, 30 September 2026 (UTC)reply
White people food
[edit]
Unmentioned at the target. Chinese Wikipedia describes a fascinating concept of a 'white meal' or 'white people food' as a trend of sorts (if my translation tool is working okay), but we do not seem to cover this anywhere. Mayhaps we cover this in another sense (even stereotypical) somewhere? Otherwise, probably best to return to red. — Godsy (TALKCONT) 10:22, 30 September 2026 (UTC)reply
The person who kicked off the trend (fad?) in mainland China seems to have been Briton Old Dry Keith, although Canadian sources are also mentioned in the zhwp article. Checked - I think we can replace the redirect with an actual translation from zhwiki page. The term is more of a meme / cultural phenomenon than a genuine food trend. Am tagging it for translation. 海盐沙冰 / aka irisChronomia / Talk / Uploads 11:07, 30 September 2026 (UTC)reply
Retarget to Stereotypes of white Americans. This expression and the stereotypes associated with it predate the Chinese meme. Searching "white+people+food" on Google and setting it to filter for results from before 2019 (an arbitrary pre-meme date) yields thousands of results. See, for example this article: "For children of immigrants, trying ‘white people food’ is a rite of passage" (Lee, 2015; The Globe And Mail) (for an Asian migrant perspective) or this article: "‘White People Food’ Is Creating An Unattainable Picture Of Health" (Aiken, 2018; Huffington Post) (for an African American perspective). Most pre-meme results are North American in origin, which makes sense since in Europe the stereotypes North Americans associate with "white people food" (bland, lack of spices, burgers, mac'n'cheese, etc.) are generally associated with Northern European cuisines, and there's a much stronger sense that there are distinct regional and national cuisines rather than a homogeneous "white" food culture. The stereotypes usually relate particularly to White (North) American food, though naturally this overlaps with stereotypes about eg. White British food.
Stereotypes of white Americans briefly discusses these stereotypes with reference to the Chinese meme/trend:
White people are also stereotyped to have no culture and do not season their food.[7][8] In 2023, Chinese people made fun of white people on social media for eating bland foods such as raw salads, boiled eggs, chicken breast, sliced ham, and bologna sandwiches by calling it the "lunch of suffering", contrasting it with the rich and spicy Chinese cuisine.[9]
The exact phrase "white people food" isn't used in the text, but is used by some of the articles cited so a mention could be added if other editors feel it's necessary. – Scyrme (talk/solidarity) 12:19, 30 September 2026 (UTC)reply
Support retarget per above. It definitely has a broader meaning than the Chinese meme (which could potentially be translated with a disambiguated title, if deemed notable for our purposes). Until/unless someone decides to write a spinoff article the stereotype seems like the closest fit since there is direct mention of the term (and the meme).
If no consensus for retargeting, support deletion instead. Current redirect definitely isn't appropriate. ChompyTheGogoat [ Bleat | Munched ] 14:36, 30 September 2026 (UTC)reply
English city names
[edit]
Seems like a rather strange target. Just because a city is not in Europe doesn't mean that there isn't a name in English. English exonyms provides some non-European examples of city names that are different in English. Lists of cities would be more general, including English names based on endonyms, though on the English Wikipedia, any lists of cities would be presumed to list city names in English. Also, English cities redirects to City status in the United Kingdom, which doesn't list that many city names, but List of cities in the United Kingdom (of which List of cities in England redirects to) mentions that there are 55 cities in England.   • Retarget to List of cities in the United Kingdom, to sync with List of cities in England. The list there gives the names of every city in England as a sortable table. Admittedly the list also includes Wales, Scotland, and Northern Ireland, but it can be sorted by statistical region which groups them in a way that makes finding just the English ones straightforward. Elon Musk's submarine
[edit]
This redirect has an interesting history. The page at this title was an article for 11 days in August 2018 (a month after the actual cave rescue occurred), whereupon it was redirected to Elon Musk#Tham Luang cave rescue. After that, FWDekker retargeted it to Elon Musk#Tham Luang cave rescue and defamation case in 2020; Cewbot retargeted it to Elon Musk#Tham Luang cave rescue & defamation case in 2022 (which Tallungs reverted); I retargeted it to Tham Luang cave rescue in 2025. Last but not least, starting a few minutes earlier, today Moonraker12 tried four different targets: Elon Musk#Tham Luang cave rescue and defamation case, Legal affairs of Elon Musk#Tham Luang cave rescue and defamation case, Tham Luang cave rescue, and Tham Luang cave rescue#Elon Musk.
As that discussion reveals, we have three different articles on Wikipedia this redirect could possibly target where the submarine was mentioned - Elon Musk, Legal affairs of Elon Musk, and Tham Luang cave rescue - and no consensus on which one to send the reader to. External search results on Google, Google Scholar, and Google Books return no non-Wikipedia hits for "Jukude+language". Results for "Jukude" alone yields results that state that this word means "person, human" (eg. ). Rogers, 2001, states:
The speakers of this language referred to themselves as jukude-itse [zokude-itse] ‘people-PL’. It is commonplace to refer to the language as Máku in the linguistic literature, reserving the autonym, consequently, for the cultural group of speakers of this language.
If I understand rightly, -itse marks this word as referring to people, so maybe without the person marker suffix the word is the native word for the language. This redirect is linked to in several articles; maybe the references in one of them can provide evidence for usage of "Jukude language" off-Wikipedia? – Scyrme (talk/solidarity) 23:13, 12 September 2026 (UTC)reply
Usage looks to be predominantly in the form of lists. Ticuna–Yuri languages#Language contact and Languages of Brazil#Classification of languages as linguistic or cultural heritage have Portuguese references. Here for the one billionth edit (talk) 23:32, 12 September 2026 (UTC)reply
One of the pages, I've forgotten which, referenced ISBN 978-3-11-025513-3. It makes note "A number of languages have been called Makú, several of which have nothing to do with one another". The closest I found using "Jukude" and not "jukude-itse" (people) was a German source. Kolonialitäten und tribale Zonen. Koch-Grünbergs Beziehungen im Feld während der Roraima-Orinoco-Expedition by Ernst Halbmayer (July 2023), Philipps University of Marburg
It reads: "Die Selbstbezeichnung der Gruppe war Jukudeitse und die Sprache Jukude." Which Google Translates to: "The group's self-designation was Jukudeitse, and the language was Jukude." Interestingly, it (or its quoted passages) seems to use the term "Máku" to refer to the people, contrary to the Máku language page:
Drei Porokotó und einen Máku haben er und seine Henkersknechte mit der Rifle erschossen.
He and his henchmen shot three Porokotó and one Máku with the rifle.
Wie Koch-Grünberg festhält: »Die Unterhaltung meiner Leute dreht sich jetzt beständig um die ›wilden Indianer‹, Waiká […], die diese Gegend gerade in der jetzigen Zeit gern zu Überfällen (um Mitternacht) auf die durchreisenden Majonggóng und Máku benutzen sollen« (VII: 10).
As Koch-Grünberg notes: "My men’s conversation now constantly revolves around the ‘wild Indians’—the Waiká […], who are said to favor this area, especially at the present time, for launching raids (at midnight) on the passing Majonggóng and Máku" (VII: 10).
Auch »mit den Arekuna, von denen einzelne bei den Yekuaná leben, kommen Misch-ehen vor; ebenso mit den Máku am Auari« (Koch-Grünberg 1923: 351).
"Mixed marriages also occur with the Arekuna—some of whom live among the Yekuaná—as well as with the Máku on the Auari" (Koch-Grünberg 1923: 351).
I don't know if I've actually contributed anything here, just that it passed the time. Either way, my view remains that if the term "Jukude" is in use and someone might reasonably search it or follow a link using it, we should keep this. Template:R from incorrect name can be used, or Template:R from alternative name if it is less certain that name is incorrect. Template:R from move may also be suitable, although, looking at the history closer, the page only lived there from 2020-12-24 to 2021-03-08.
Only tangentially related, that is interesting this language page's moves were driven by a single user from 2011 to literally today (UTC, yesterday in the Americas). I hope they partake in this discussion. Possibly there is no definitively correct name for this language. Another idea I've just had, is to check the other Wikipedia languages for references. They all start with "jukude", "jukudea", "yukude", or Язык юкуде (which apparently is also yukude). But I have not looked into where they may have got that name from. Here for the one billionth edit (talk) 18:59, 13 September 2026 (UTC)reply
@Here for the one billionth edit AFAIK Koch-Grünberg, who is being discussed here, only called the language "Máku". Here is his book which contains a vocabulary of it. Since the language is called "Jukude" here, I support keeping this but with the caveat of using R from incorrect name. The only name the language is otherwise called is "Máku" (though with some diacritical variation as "Makú, which is much more ambiguous). The other WP articles were probably moved by kwami per enWP usage rather than due to some reference present in the other WPs. 🪐Kepler-1229b | talk | contribs🪐 13:17, 14 September 2026 (UTC)reply
British cities
Sync at City status in the United Kingdom. I see no good reason not to sync them. Looking at the "What links here?" pages for both targets, filtered to show redirects, these titles better match the other existing redirects to the "City status" article. I've added a hatnote for readers who may be using the plural to signify that they're looking for a list rather than a topic. (The alternative would require reviewing many other redirects besides the ones nominated here; simpler to just retarget 1 redirect and add a hatnote.) – Scyrme (talk/solidarity) 07:51, 30 September 2026 (UTC)reply
Suggest retargeting to Queen Mathilde of Belgium, who is the only person on the dab page to have the given name Mathilde rather than Matilda (or Maud). Rosbif73 (talk) 06:43, 30 September 2026 (UTC)reply
Keep. Historically, the spellings of names were more variable and could often be inconsistent. For example, some historical sources call King Henry VIII "Harry" not "Henry". In this case, you can find some of the sources referenced for Matilda of Ringelheim using the name "Mathilde". Matilda of Flanders explicitly states in the lead that in French and Dutch her name is "Mathilde". I've not checked every person on that disambiguation page, but I assume there are more examples like this. Just because their article titles on Wikipedia use the spelling "Matilda" does not mean that the articles, or the sources they cite, or historical sources in general do so. – Scyrme (talk/solidarity) 06:59, 30 September 2026 (UTC)reply
TSAR
[edit]
These redirects should point to the same target. –LaundryPizza03 (dc̄) 11:13, 11 September 2026 (UTC)reply
  • Comment - Retargeting to SAR supergroup is my first instinct, but I notice this will create circular redirects on the SAR supergroup page. Someone with knowledge of the topic should confirm the intended destination of those TSAR links.
Here for the one billionth edit (talk) 11:59, 11 September 2026 (UTC)reply
I had the same thoughts. Neither article contains a lot of substantive coverage of TSAR but SAR supergroup is the logical place where this might be expanded. The brief mention at Diaphoretickes § Evolution just says that Telonemia [...] is sometimes resolved as the sister clade of the SAR supergroup, forming the hypothesized TSAR clade. That makes Diaphoretickes an improper target to discuss TSAR on the whole. The circular link at SAR supergroup can either be removed or it can be left as an acceptable circular redirect if editors think this has standalone article potential. —Myceteae🍄‍🟫 (talk) 14:07, 11 September 2026 (UTC)reply
Support retargeting TSAR to Diaphoretickes. TSAR includes groups that SAR does not, and is fully included in Diaphoretickes, the nearest parent clade. Furthermore, its validity is still unknown, as the 'T' often branches with Haptista instead of SAR. The Evolution section at Diaphoretickes covers this information. For these reasons, TSAR redirecting to Diaphoretickes is preferable, and is a surefire way to avoid misleading readers into thinking SAR and TSAR are equivalent. — Snoteleks (talk) 14:10, 11 September 2026 (UTC)reply
Ah, I see. I think I initially misread Diaphoretickes, and did not bother to look at the taxobox. I do think the information could be presented more clearly in the article. I've followed the TSAR discussion from afar and my (limited!) understanding is that it is disputed but still felt to be relevant enough to cover somewhere. This is a bit beyond the scope of RFD but I do think the coverage could be improved while still kept fairly succinct. —Myceteae🍄‍🟫 (talk) 14:15, 11 September 2026 (UTC)reply
@Myceteae Agreed that coverage should be improved. I have added some more bits of info at Telonemid and will try to add something at Diaphoretickes itself. — Snoteleks (talk) 14:37, 11 September 2026 (UTC)reply
Support. Jako96 (talk) 22:23, 11 September 2026 (UTC)reply
I agree with Snotelek that targeting the least inclusive group that contains TSAR is usually the best solution. But TSAR is sort of SAR sensu lato so might be a more natural place to discuss it. It's mentioned in the lede and the article could be reorganised to have a short section on TSAR that could be linked in the redirect. Likewise, Diaphoretickes could have a sections on TSAR/SAR and other component supergroups, but the article isn't organised that way. TSAR is mentioned but seems quite dismissive of the hypothesis. At the moment SAR seems a better target because the issue is addressed in the one paragraph lede.  —  Jts1882 | talk  14:39, 11 September 2026 (UTC)reply
This was part of the thinking that originally led me favor SAR supergroup. Either target is justifiable and the coverage could be improved in either location to better support these redirects. —Myceteae🍄‍🟫 (talk) 16:08, 11 September 2026 (UTC)reply
  • Comment. I just noticed that while most of these have little traffic, atomy has a lot of traffic. The all-time total is >65,000 since 2015. I somehow doubt this due to readers looking for an obscure, very archaic word meaning either skeleton or mote (or, apparently, also fairy according to these redirects). I think there's something we're overlooking here.
    A quick external search for "Atomy" overwhelmingly brings up a South Korean brand/chain called 'Atomy' in English. There seems to be no coverage here on ~enwiki, but it does have an article on ~kowiki: Atomy [ko]. I'm still undecided, but my intuition is there's a WP:RETURNTORED situation here. I'm unsure if there are other meanings of the word that we're missing which would explain the high traffic. – Scyrme (talk/solidarity) 17:12, 17 September 2026 (UTC)reply
Dirty Diaper
[edit]
These redirects originate from the first revision of Fritillaria camschatcensis by @Noswald, where "dirty diaper" was listed as a common name. @Dysmorodrepanis~enwiki then created the "Dirty Diaper" redirect, and @Plantdrew created "Dirty diaper". This name was removed for being unsourced in 2022. I could not find any evidence that this plant has ever been known by that name, and so the redirects should probably be deleted. It is probably noteworthy that, Fritillaria biflora, also created by Noswald, used the same terminology (1, 2) to describe its supposed common name: It is also sometimes known as Skunk Lily, Dirty Diaper and Outhouse Lily because of the flower's horrible smell. Hopefully this makes sense, and I haven't done anything wrong, as this is my first time listing anything for discussion/deletion. JordyGrey talk🧸 02:41, 30 September 2026 (UTC)reply
  • Delete. Library of Congress seems to be listing it as a common name as of 2009 here, but that post-dates the appearance on Wikipedia. I'm not finding anything I'd consider reliable that pre-dates Wikipedia (but I haven't searched exhaustively). I think "dirty diaper" probably is a not-very-commonly-used common name for some Fritillaria species that didn't originate on Wikipedia, but Fritillaria is not the primary topic of "dirty diaper" and it isn't a particularly useful search term. RuneScape locations
[edit]
Now that Wikipedia:Redirects for discussion/Log/2026 September 4#Varrock has gone through, I would like to nominate these other RuneScape locations for deletion. You may refer to that RfD for more context. The long and short is there used to be a page about RuneScape locations, and now all we have is these redirects as they are not individually notable.
I have omitted Gielinor from this RfD, as that is the world in which the RuneScape games are set, not a city or kingdom (lore-wise, it does not include Zanaris, which is its moon, but this has no bearing on gameplay). It is mentioned at RuneScape, Old School RuneScape, RuneScape: Dragonwilds, Betrayal at Falador, and sorta kinda FunOrb. Suffice to say, that redirect is problematic in its own right, but previous attempts to spin it into its own article have ultimately been unsuccessful. Here for the one billionth edit (talk) 10:11, 12 September 2026 (UTC)reply
These redirects should have been bundled with more care. Though the nomination implies these were all previously redirects to RuneScape locations, this is untrue. Castle Wars was an article about a minigame which was redirected to RuneScape combat so should have been bundled with that. Falador was merged directly to RuneScape#Locations according to an edit summary. though I've not checked whether it was actually merged or simply blanked and redirected. If it was merged WP:ATTREQ would require the redirect to be preserved for attribution. I don't have time to investigate the page histories of every single redirect nominated here, but I'm concerned there are other cases like the ones I've noted here. – Scyrme (talk/solidarity) 11:41, 12 September 2026 (UTC)reply
Sorry, I did not mean to imply they all redirected to RuneScape locations, just that they are RuneScape locations and the majority of these stemmed from the existence of that page.
While Castle Wars is best known as a minigame, it is also a location. It later redirected to RuneScape#Player_interaction (still does - apologies for missing the anchor when making the RfD), as that is where Castle Wars was mentioned (see Special:Permalink/400431131#Player interaction, random revision from the time that section existed). The minigame certainly has a combat element but is not combat itself.
You're right that WP:ATTREQ could be a headache. It applies even though the current revision doesn't go into locations (well it does mention the Falador Massacre, but the Falador page didn't), right? Falador text was in the main page for ~10 hours indeed (Special:Diff/261069919). I could withdraw that part. The ones with simple histories like Karamja are easier to review. Here for the one billionth edit (talk) 12:20, 12 September 2026 (UTC)reply
@Scyrme: Maybe there's a more reliable way, but I scraped RuneScape's revision history for instances of "merg" (case-insensitive). So there's that Falador edit as seen in my parent reply. Special:Diff/30426061 mentions merging King Black Dragon (relevant to the other AfD), but if you view the respective page's history it never had anything more substantial than a Wikia link, so not a content merge the revision that was merged from has already been deleted. Didn't find anything else. I see we can use Template:R from merge like Falador Massacre does. Here for the one billionth edit (talk) 13:09, 12 September 2026 (UTC)reply
These methods aren't always reliable, especially when dealing with very old articles/revisions. Sometimes redirects from merges were not tagged with r from merge or the tag was removed because the redirect was later retargeted somewhere else. Editors don't always say in their edit summaries that they are "merging" or have "merged" content from somewhere else. Some editors neglect to say anything because they're not aware that they need to state where content came from, or they may say something like "adding content from [article]" or "incorporated text from [article]".
King Black Dragon was deleted because it was retargeted to RuneScape monsters after the merge to RuneScape. When RuneScape monsters was deleted after an AfD, King Black Dragon was left with no target and deleted, but it should not have been. I assume someone neglected to document the merge to RuneScape, so no-one noticed that it had history that needed to be preserved. – Scyrme (talk/solidarity) 13:31, 12 September 2026 (UTC)reply
I wonder if it's still possible to request undeletion after all these years? Might be too late to fix the attribution for the merge from King Black Dragon. – Scyrme (talk/solidarity) 13:35, 12 September 2026 (UTC)reply
Reading the instructions, it sounds like we should ask User:Ixfd64. I am getting confused and will walk away from this for a little bit. Here for the one billionth edit (talk) 14:00, 12 September 2026 (UTC)reply
Yes, WP:ATTREQ applies if any revision of an article includes content which was copied or merged from another article, even if the copied content exists only in old revision. Attribution is required for each and every revision not just the current one.
Thank-you for look further into Falador. Since the content was merged into a previous revision of RuneScape, that redirect has to be kept. The attribution is still necessary to preserve for this revision. If any other redirects here also have content that was merged/copied elsewhere, they'll also need to be kept (unless the article/revision it was merged/copied to is also deleted). – Scyrme (talk/solidarity) 13:17, 12 September 2026 (UTC)reply
  • Delete all I have significant doubts any info contained within these could be at all pertinent to a modern article on the subject, so I think the worrying about attribution is misplaced. Even if they were merged at some point, the information was likely removed. Wikipedia is not a fan Wiki, so these are all irrelevant. ᴢxᴄᴠʙɴᴍ (ᴛ) 19:06, 12 September 2026 (UTC)reply
    It literally does not matter if the information was later removed in newer revisions. The old revisions are still available for anyone to read via the history page and attribution is still required as long as those revisions are not deleted. As long as the content exists in some form it's a copyright issue per the license under which Wikipedia operates. – Scyrme (talk/solidarity) 21:24, 12 September 2026 (UTC)reply
    Per WP:MAD, there are alternate ways to preserve attribution if a page would otherwise be deleted, including putting the former page or its history in a subpage of the existing page. I'd support this alternate method. ᴢxᴄᴠʙɴᴍ (ᴛ) 23:34, 12 September 2026 (UTC)reply
    WP:MAD: ... Therefore, this approach is almost never used on Wikipedia at present. This is a rarely used method and it's unclear what the benefit would be compared to just not deleting the small number of relevant redirects and adding copied or merged-to to their Talk pages. – Scyrme (talk/solidarity) 23:57, 12 September 2026 (UTC)reply
Keep Wilderness (RuneScape) if RuneScape combat is not deleted, as evidently some content was merged/copied prior to 30 January 2007 and attribution would need to be preserved. – Scyrme (talk/solidarity) 21:54, 12 September 2026 (UTC)reply
The Wilderness is also still discussed at RuneScape § Gameplay so it may be worth keeping anyway. Though discussed only briefly, it's more than a passing mention. – Scyrme (talk/solidarity) 15:11, 13 September 2026 (UTC)reply
Keep RuneScape dungeons, which was merged to "RuneScape locations". However the current version of RuneScape locations is a redirect left over from a move. The article it was merged to is now in the history of Gielinor (10 September 2006). Since Gielinor is not being nominated for deletion, RuneScape dungeons must be kept to preserve attribution. – Scyrme (talk/solidarity) 22:10, 12 September 2026 (UTC)reply
Keep Al Kharid. which was merged to "RuneScape locations", which was now actually located at Gielinor (29 December 2004). As with RuneScape dungeons, attribution must be preserved as long as Gielinor is not deleted. – Scyrme (talk/solidarity) 22:22, 12 September 2026 (UTC)reply
Delete the rest. With the exception of Falador, which has now been withdrawn, it seems the other redirects here, where they previously had content, were blanked and redirected not merged which makes them safe to delete. There's no substantial content about these left, so there's nothing helpful to redirect to. – Scyrme (talk/solidarity) 22:26, 12 September 2026 (UTC)reply
Delete any not singled out per Scryme above. For the cases he did single out, which were all merged into pages that are now redirects, I would prefer to handle that by doing a selective delete/undelete to bury the article revisions of the redirects, since we're establishing here they're poorly-sourced fancruft of no value to current Wikipedia. Hence we could safely Delete them too. * Pppery * it has begun... 18:44, 15 September 2026 (UTC)reply
Likewise Delete Wilderness (RuneScape); I don't see enough substance there to really support a redirect. * Pppery * it has begun... 18:48, 15 September 2026 (UTC)reply
@Pppery: selective delete/undelete - Do you mean delete Gielinor and recreate it? I suppose that could work, since the relevant revisions which attribution would be needed for would no longer be publicly available. However, I didn't check whether Gielinor was merged anywhere because it wasn't nominated for deletion.
Looking into it now, it seems Gielinor (formerly "RuneScape locations") was originally blanked and redirected following an AfD which was closed as "delete" but was actually implemented as a blank and redirect to allow content to be merged from previous revisions into other articles. As far as I can those merges did not happen, which would mean it would be safe to delete except in 2024 someone attempted to write a new article at the redirect. That new article was merged into RuneScape (22 May 2024). This means that the proposal to delete the redirect and recreate it without the baggage of its former history would result in the lost of attribution for previous revisions of RuneScape. – Scyrme (talk/solidarity) 19:36, 15 September 2026 (UTC)reply
Yes, that is what I meant. In theory we could delete Gielinor, and then only restore the edits that don't include the re-2008 article while still keeping the 2024 article in the history. That would be a bit of a mess, but I think it would solve the multiple conflicting goals without violating anyone's attribution. * Pppery * it has begun... 19:39, 15 September 2026 (UTC)reply
It does seem like Thief-River-Faller's 2024 article was a complete fresh start that didn't reuse content from the preceding revisions. I can't find any fault with it if there's no technical reason why it can't be done. – Scyrme (talk/solidarity) 19:56, 15 September 2026 (UTC)reply
Happy to support your suggestion then, and change my position to delete all per Pppery (except maybe the 'The Wilderness' redirects, as there's some info at the target about the topic. but it's not a lot so I don't feel strongly about it). – Scyrme (talk/solidarity) 20:06, 15 September 2026 (UTC)reply
There is so much messy history from the 2000s that I'd be happy to get rid, if we can do that. If the Gielinor redirect stays, I second the 2024 article can happily live in the history as it's doing no harm. Here for the one billionth edit (talk) 16:38, 16 September 2026 (UTC)reply
Even though it won't work here, it's not an entirely bad suggestion. It could work for RuneScape armour (in the other listing), which would become safe to delete if RuneScape combat were deleted then recreated to cut loose its previous baggage. As far as I can tell, RuneScape combat was not merged anywhere. – Scyrme (talk/solidarity) 19:42, 15 September 2026 (UTC)reply
RuneScape combat
[edit]
Nominating redirects to do with RuneScape combat for deletion as discussion at Wikipedia:Redirects for discussion/Log/2026 September 6#RuneScape skills suggested this is okay. While the page discusses combat, the anchors these redirects use no longer exist and I think changing them to #Gameplay doesn't alleviate the maintenance burden. Many of these redirects have history from people writing about these subjects, which was later merged or removed as not individually notable. RuneScape gods
[edit]
Nominating redirects to do with RunesScape gods for deletion as discussion at Wikipedia:Redirects for discussion/Log/2026 September 6#RuneScape skills suggested this is okay. I have also included non-god NPCs in this. One page is in Draft namespace for unknown reasons (was created as a redirect in 2022 after being speedy-deleted in 2021, hasn't been touched since). Here for the one billionth edit (talk) 10:11, 12 September 2026 (UTC)reply
If there are too many of them the history can be preserved in other ways, like moving the page to a subpage of the target's talk page or moving to a more plausible redirect title without leaving a redirect. We are never obligated to maintain bad redirects, though they may not be worth the hassle of saving the history. Rusalkii (talk) 19:57, 14 September 2026 (UTC)reply
Moving redirects to a new title without leaving a new redirect is normally done when the new title at least bears some resemblance to the old one. Moving redirects to radically different titles from the original just creates a confusing situation where article history is hidden under an entirely unrelated title.
Moving the target to a Talk subpage is rarely done and WP:MAD calls it "questionable" as a method for preserving attribution.
I just don't see a need here. All these more obscure methods create more hassle than simply not deleting, which is how situations like these are usually handled. – Scyrme (talk/solidarity) 22:38, 14 September 2026 (UTC)reply
(All this isn't even that relevant to this RuneScape gods nomination. This more about the other listings. – Scyrme (talk/solidarity) 23:10, 14 September 2026 (UTC))reply
  • Delete all* (except King Black Dragon due to an unusual WP:ATTREQ issue). Some of these previously had articles, but they were mostly blanked and redirected so there's no history to worry about for most of these.
    Guthix was merged according to the edit summary of this revision (10 March 2005); the content was merged to RuneScape skills (10 March 2005). Guthix should only be deleted if the RfD concerning RuneScape skills is closed as delete. If it's not deleted, Guthix should be kept and the merge documented on Talk:Guthix.
    Wikipedia:Articles for deletion/Zamorak states that an article existed at the title, but was plagairised and deleted for copyright reasons. If a redirect was left, per the AfD outcome, it seems it was deleted in 2011. It's unclear why KelseW decided to create new redirects at Zamorak and Draft:Zamorak in 2025. Regardless, it seems there's no content history to worry about. – Scyrme (talk/solidarity) 20:44, 12 September 2026 (UTC)reply
    Minor note, Zamorak was retargeted to Old School RuneScape after originally redirecting to RuneScape. The reason was "mentioned here", but this is no longer true. There is no mention at Old School RuneScape. – Scyrme (talk/solidarity) 20:50, 12 September 2026 (UTC)reply
    The only one of these topics currently mentioned seems to be Runescape monsters, but they are only mentioned with no coverage. The mere mentions would not satisfy a reader looking for info about monsters in RuneScape, so the redirect isn't actually helpful. – Scyrme (talk/solidarity) 20:54, 12 September 2026 (UTC)reply
    Update: Guthix can be deleted now that RuneScape skills has. – Scyrme (talk/solidarity) 10:20, 14 September 2026 (UTC)reply
  • Delete all, including King Black Dragon, due to a lack of mention on Wikipedia. Attribution is not required as there is no extant content left from the merge. We are not required to provide attribution for old revisions and there is a disclaimer explaining that at the bottom of the page when viewing old revisions. I recognize that my view on the subject is not universal, so I recommend adding the list of contributors to the talk page (eg: like I have done here). -- Tavix (talk) 15:24, 22 September 2026 (UTC)reply
    The only thing in the disclaimer beneath old revisions that seems relevant is material not compatible with the Creative Commons Attribution-ShareAlike 4.0 License, which I don't remotely see as a statement saying it's fine to ignore attribution for previous revisions. That message is there because most revisions of most articles were written before Wikipedia even adopted the current 4.0 license. The 4.0 license was only adopted in 2023. If anything, that message stresses the need for maintaining attribution for previous revisions because past contributors did not necessarily agree to co-license their contributions under the new license.
    This is even before considering that any content from past revisions can at any time be restored, copied, or forked elsewhere (and may already have been). If attribution for previous revisions doesn't matter, you're essentially saying it's now public domain, since the license the contributors agreed to no longer applies. And what if it is restored, even if only to be sent to AfD? Does the content revert to the previous license too? That's not how the public domain works. – Scyrme (talk/solidarity) 16:28, 22 September 2026 (UTC)reply
    It's clearly stating that old revisions contain material not compatible with the Creative Commons Attribution-ShareAlike 4.0 License, which absolves the requirement under the license for attribution therein. I also agree that it is not a statement saying that it's fine to ignore attribution, but my position is that we needn't bend over backwards to adhere to a standard above and beyond what is required. I disagree with your slippery slope argument. Any deleted material can be restored at any time as they can be found, for example, in mirrors and archives. If material is restored from one of these sources, it would be a violation unless proper attribution can be provided at that time. If attribution is always required for all revisions, any deletion cannot be permitted. -- Tavix (talk) 16:52, 22 September 2026 (UTC)reply
    I really don't see where you're getting that it "absolves" anything. Just because it's not under the requirement of the 4.0 license to provide attribution doesn't mean it isn't under the same requirement from a different license (eg. the pre-2023 3.0 license past contributors were required to agree to). As for restoring content from a mirror without attribution, yes, that is a violation. I don't know how you get from there to any deletion being impermissible. On the contrary, it means that content resurrected from a mirror/archive without attribution should just be deleted again, as we would delete any other improperly licensed or copyvio content, if restoring the attribution isn't feasible.
    We're veering off-course here. Bringing it back to relevance, the situation where content was restored from a mirror/archive is comparable to the one with King Black Dragon and RuneScape, except the content was "restored" into old revisions of RuneScape from a now deleted version of King Black Dragon not a mirror/archive. I assume your position is nothing needs to be done here. My position is either the affected revisions of RuneScape need to be deleted or the attribution needs to be restored to remove the need to delete them. You a suggested list of contributors on Talk page. I'd be fine with that outcome instead of restoring some ancient version of King Black Dragon. Either way an admin would have to access the old history, even if it's just to make a list.
    If deleting the current redirect at King Black Dragon does not in any way impede getting the list of contributors for RuneScape's Talk page, I am happy to delete all. – Scyrme (talk/solidarity) 17:52, 22 September 2026 (UTC)reply
    Rather than pasting to Talk:RuneScape, I recommend a dummy edit – if the authors fit in an edit summary – or either of the WP:Merge and delete#Talk subpage (essay) methods. The WP:Merge and delete#Comparison table includes examples. I see that these approaches have been discussed above. Flatscan (talk) 04:31, 24 September 2026 (UTC)reply
Wikipedia:ANSWER
[edit]
For a quick history lesson: In 2004 this was created as a target to Wikipedia:U.S. Northern wikipedians' notice board, out of all things, and retargeted to where it stands today in 2010.
Either way, this is horribly ambiguous. Wikipedia is full of things that need answering. For example, questions at the help desk, teahouse, reference desk, hell, each and every single village pump. I personally thought of this redirect when looking at WP:42. I'm leaning towards delete because of just how hopeless this is and its low number of links, but my second choice would be retargeting to Wikipedia:The answer to life, the universe, and everything just to give some sort of compromise. mwwv converse∫edits 13:58, 29 September 2026 (UTC)reply
Rain, Rain, Rain (Frankie Laine and The Four Lads song)
[edit]
The subject is mentioned on both the target article and The Four Lads. Both articles seemed to go into the same amount of detail regarding the subject; only mentioned in one sentence in passing, including the fact that the musician and the music group collaborated on the subject. However, with that being said, it's not clear if a reader is attempting to locate the current target article or The Four Lads if they search up the search term, meaning this redirect is ambiguous due to multiple potential targets.   • Strong keep per Godsy. We should always be very conservative about retargetting shortcuts because most people do not regularly check the target and assume it leads to where it did when they first learned of it. This means that if it's reretargetted different people will link to it expecting different meanings, which can cause misunderstandings. Disambiguating shortcuts helps nobody and makes the shortcut essentially useless - most shortcuts are ambiguous, it's not a problem that needs fixing let alone one that justifies creating problems where none currently exist. There's nothing wrong with this redirect beyond not being concise. It's harmless. Most redirects are "unnecessary" given Wikipedia has a search engine. Redirects are cheap and created for various reasons besides being strictly "necessary" for navigation. No mention at the target. This page was originally created in 2006 as a David Bowie persona, but was PRODed, converted to a redirect to the singer, and then deleted at RfD. At the time, the Marvel character which was an article, was seen as a better topic for this title. Now however, Halloween Jack (comics) has been reduced to a redirect to an unsourced one-line mention at its target.
Is David Bowie / Diamond Dogs the primary target, or should this be a disambig? Jay 02:57, 29 September 2026 (UTC)reply
Disambiguate. Not sure if there's a primary topic. but there are more than 2 plausible targets so a disambiguation page is warranted anyway.
My external search results are mixed for the Bowie character and various horror films particularly The Curse of Halloween Jack and The Legend Of Halloween Jack. The films don't have their own articles, but are listed at the article of their director, Andrew Jones (filmmaker). Besides the Bowie persona, Marvel character, and films, there's also Jack O'The Lantern, the folklore character responsible for the association of the name "Jack" with Halloween in the first place.
Jack Skellington should be listed as a "see also", as it seems plausible someone who doesn't remember the character's surname but does remember that he's a resident of Halloween Town would search for him using "Halloween Jack". – Scyrme (talk/solidarity) 20:52, 29 September 2026 (UTC)reply
The use of the term as a slang description for some variety of Gridiron football does not seem to be explained anywhere on wikipedia; if such an explanation is added, we could then add a hatnote to the Swiss village's page. Rosbif73 (talk) 13:47, 28 September 2026 (UTC)reply
  • Keep. We've been over this ad nauseam. "No one who is typing Handegg is looking for the Swiss town of Handeck." Do you really think anyone is going to be unable to find football without this? And even if they somehow can't, a hatnote gets them there. Unless there's something about the term "handegg" specifically, then favor the thing we actually have content about that's actually named "Handegg". –Deacon Vorbis (carbon • videos) 16:41, 28 September 2026 (UTC)reply
  • Keep: The number of "non-juvenile" persons (from English-speaking places outside North America) that would seriously seek context/explanation of (and not find) any articles with coverage of the "slang" term's applicability to all the forms of football (that do not use a soccer ball) is likely miniscule. Redirect seems unnecessary, especially when one considers that CS Peirce already redirects to Charles Sanders Peirce, and one looking for his philosophy of mathematics via searching up "CS Peirce's Philosophy of Mathematics" (or similar, which itself seems unlikely) would have seen his Wikipedia article pop up right next to the search box. Countershock
per wikt:countershock, it's not a concept exclusive to use of the zappy bricks, though that's probably close enough to the primary topic that a soft redirect to wiktionary only might be the slightly better option here, so consider this a weak nom consarn (talk beige) (count ribs) 13:24, 17 September 2026 (UTC)reply
  • Support. Thank you, that would indeed be an improvement that would optimize in this case. As the creator of the redirect (created in 2016), I fully support consarn's proposed improvement. Namely, please provide one of those soft redirects to Wiktionary for this term, instead of redirecting to defibrillation, which is merely one major category of activity where countershock is relevant.   • Weak keep/weak delete, but do not retarget to wiktionary. The various mentions are all related to the current target, so there's certainly nothing else to reasonably target. The only other search hits are for a handful of sources published by a "Countershock Press". That being said, I wouldn't mind seeing this go altogether, but if it has to stay, it should stay where it is. As almost always, Wikt redirects are actively harmful and should almost never be used. –Deacon Vorbis (carbon • videos) 23:44, 17 September 2026 (UTC)reply
  • retarget to Slabodka. The current target was both correct and incorrect. Slabodka was indeed a name of Vilijampolė when it was part of Poland and Russian Empire and it gave the name of Slabodka yeshiva.   • Followup comment. Reaffirming my delete vote above, even in light of the above explanation. On the technical side, I suspect it's likely fixable with a phab task if someone cares, although I'm not sure the will would exist to actually do it. If not, XFDCloser should provide a link to the current discussion when these are deleted, so anyone who follows the red link in the edit summary will be able to see the original discussion if they really need from the deletion log (which is still on the unlikely side). That being said, this still isn't a valid excuse per WP:FAIT. Many of these were created after the original discussion, even after there was an objection to these. Moreover, there's no particular reason these couldn't have just used the full link in the edit summary; they're well under the limit. That BHG didn't do so isn't a valid reason to double down on a bad decision in the first place. Brahminism
[edit]
It currently redirects to Historical Vedic religion but Brahminism is not Historical Vedic religion.
See:
"Brahmanism refers to the whole way of life associated with the brah- mans (brahmins), a caste in *Hindu India. Spe- cifically, Brahmanism is a development of earlier *Vedism, which was the religion of the *Indo-European *Aryans, who entered India in the second millennium B.C.E. Brahmanism, like Vedism, reveres the ancient rituals and sacred texts or *Shruti-the Vedas and the *Brah- manas, *Upanishads, and *Aranyakas that grew out of them but it also places a great deal of trust in the myths contained in less sacred texts or *Smirti, such as the epics the *Mahabharata and the *Ramayana, the *Puranas, and various books of Hindu law." David Leeming, The Oxford Companion to World Mythology p54
This view is prevalent for centuries as seen here:
"It may be noted, by way of proem, that the theory of the transmigration of souls is not advanced in the Vedas. It is a part of Brahman teaching, but Brahmanism and Vedaism are not the same. The Vedas are claimed as the out- come of direct revelation, while all that part of post-Vedic literature in which Brahmanism is enveloped is held to be purely traditional."   • Delete. This is the (partial) title (with incorrect capitalization) of a paper that this article cites, but doesn't mention.     Comment: I don’t think this is necessarily an incorrect capitalization. If you look at the original paper (the archived version linked in the article) you can see that the title is stylized as “Gorillas in our midst: sustained inattentional blindness for dynamic events”.
    Also the article definitely mentions the exact work described in the paper, even if it doesn’t mention it by that name. I’m not sure if this actually affects whether the redirect is valid, but thought it should be pointed out. ExitTheWarrior (talk) 12:18, 19 September 2026 (UTC)reply
Redirects to Major and minor
[edit]
None are mentioned at target, but I believe that these are all Romance language words. I find it plausible there might be affinity with music, especially French and Italian, per WP:FORRED, but these aren't mentioned anywhere and are a hassle for false friends/false cognates, as I've just discovered when searching for Minore (which I'm boldly turning into a disambiguation page instead), while looking for Minore, New South Wales. I find it unlikely an English speaker will misspell "major" or "minor" as any of these. Also, Mineur (surname) should be moved to Mineur and add a mention of Mineur (crater). Fork99 (talk) 09:46, 18 September 2026 (UTC)reply
  • Let’s hope that this won’t become a WP:TRAINWRECK but here is my vote:
  • Listify as appropriate (as creator of at least some). Yes, they are all translations of major or minor in European languages, and as such in classical music often appear in titles, musical instructions, and such. For that reason they are typically included in music encyclopedias (as redirects), and were once on the Wikipedia:Music encyclopedia topics lists (which is why I created them). But certainly no need to prioritize that meaning to surnames or other uses which are likely more common; in fact as a disambiguation page they are better since the explanation could be clearer than a simple redirect. Tajar, Semnan
I don't see any evidence that there's a place called "Tajar" in Semnan Province, Iran (let alone in the eponymous county or city). There are 4 different places in Iran called "Tazareh", but that's a different term from "Tajar" even when written in Perso-Arabic script. So I suggest deletion. Duckmather (talk) 04:08, 18 September 2026 (UTC)reply
  • Lean un-refine to Lentil. Masoor is now mentioned in the parenthetical in the lead of Lentil, but not in the target section Lentil#Types. With the limited coverage in the lead of Lentil and the list entry at Dal#Common ingredients, I see no basis to prefer one target over the other. If I understand correctly that masoor is specifically means lentils or red lentils, and excludes other dried legumes that are covered by Dal, then keeping this at Lentil makes sense. If the coverage is expanded, removed, or reorganized then this and the related redirects Tavix identified can be retargeted. Retargeting/refinement to a page or section with expanded content can occur as a matter of editorial discussion and doesn't require repeat WP:RFD nomination unless there is a new dispute. —Myceteae🍄‍🟫 (talk) 19:24, 29 September 2026 (UTC)reply
I could see people using EU's for EUs (or eUs), a plural of maybe endotoxin units or entropy units or execution units, but that then brings up the obvious question of why don't we have that redirect.
And it's a bit incoherent with the idea that EU is a primary redirect. If it's really that, then it's probably reasonable to assume that the possessive use of that overshadows this odd pluralization use.
I checked if we have any piped links to this, and we do, but they all seem to refer to the primary meaning of EU. --Joy (talk) 21:40, 26 September 2026 (UTC)reply
Keep the two correct ones University of Springfield. The list of former names for the College don't include any with "University". I've added a hatnote at Homer Goes to College in case anyone uses "Springfield University" as short for "University of (Illinois) Springfield".
I agree that Springfield (The Simpsons)#Colleges/universities is more fitting. I also agree that this can be retargeted if content is expanded, removed, or reorganized, but the overview at Springfield (The Simpsons)#Colleges/universities is a sensible place to collect information about the university's appearances in multiple episodes and to place it in the context of other colleges and universities that have appeared in the series. —Myceteae🍄‍🟫 (talk) 19:10, 29 September 2026 (UTC)reply
Sonja, King Mother
[edit]
Not sure if this is a faithful rendition of her Norwegian title, Kongemor which means "the king's mother" and would be similar to My Lady the King's Mother or Gunnhild, Mother of Kings. But I cannot find "King Mother" in the sources and as such I don't think this redirect can be a viable search term or be used in a prose. Sonja, the King's Mother can be created as an alternative. Keivan.fTalk 06:16, 25 September 2026 (UTC)reply
I support the usage of both redirects proposed by Keivan.f, the more the better if there are potential other terms used than the article title.
(Side note: Hooking on to our discussion about the queen mother/queen dowager terms at Talk:Queen_Sonja_of_Norway#Queen_dowager/Queen_mother, the fact that her official title's literal translation is "the King Mother" proves by analogy my point that "queen mother" can be interpreted as "mother of the queen".) Marbe166 (talk) 07:15, 25 September 2026 (UTC)reply
"King mother" is not standard English; it sounds like a compound noun, but is generally unnatural. the fact that her official title's literal translation is "the King Mother" Only if you consider kongemor as a compound word like kingmaker or schoolteacher, then yes it could be translated as "king mother". So far we haven't had an update to the Norwegian royal website which has their bios in English so it would be interesting to see how they would be translating this title. That being said, queen mother isn't grammatically the same as "queen's mother"; it's a conventional title/role as I had mentioned before. Keivan.fTalk 04:15, 26 September 2026 (UTC)reply
  • Keep as a plausible if ungrammatical literal translation of Kongemor, without prejudice to the creation of other redirects (perhaps Queen Sonja the Queen Mother mirroring Queen Elizabeth the Queen Mother, for example). As an aside, I've created a redirect for Kongemor, targeting Queen mother#Norway. Rosbif73 (talk) 09:32, 25 September 2026 (UTC)reply
    But I do wonder if Kongemor is rendered as "King Mother" in English; as I mentioned earlier, it is not standard English. I really don't think we should encourage the use of unconfirmed names or titles that are not common names of the subjects either. The closest thing we have in English is My Lady the King's Mother. If anyone else can put forward a source please go ahead. An update from the English webpage on the Norwegian royal court is also not available at the moment, so we have to rely on other sources for now. Keivan.fTalk 04:15, 26 September 2026 (UTC)reply
    "King Mother" is not a correct translation of Kongemor, of course, but it is a plausible mistranslation that a non-native English speaker might search for. It's not as though the meaning of "Queen Mother", a former queen consort who is the mother of the current monarch, is transparent for someone unfamiliar with the term. Katniss
[edit]
Katniss Everdeen is the clear primary topic. Page views for Katniss Everdeen vastly outweigh views for Sagittaria (see the graph), even before taking into account that "katniss" is just one of many alternative names for Sagittaria. 🦬 Beefaloe 🦬 (talk) 07:44, 16 September 2026 (UTC)reply
  • Oppose: Katniss isn't just one of the alternative names, but one which is used multiple times in the page. Search results for "katniss" produce the character second, so anyone searching for that can easily find what they're looking for, and even if they happen to land on the plant's article anyway, the hatnote is sufficient. Unsurprising that the page views weigh in favor of a fictional character from a popular franchise over a random plant species, but that shouldn't be the only determining factor when there's other value in keeping this redirect as is. QuietHere (talk | contributions) 08:53, 16 September 2026 (UTC)reply
  • Keep per WP:SMALLDETAILS. The character has a last name, and anyone looking for information about that specifically should be reasonably expected to both know it, and include it in a search. If they don't know it, or they're just too lazy to enter it, the hatnote at the current target gets them there. I also don't buy the pageviews argument in a vacuum, since it doesn't tell us how many had to click through the hatnote instead. –Deacon Vorbis (carbon • videos) 15:40, 16 September 2026 (UTC)reply
    I don't agree that readers should be reasonably expected to ... include it in a search. That would be true if "Katniss" were a common given name, but it isn't (or wasn't until the books/films briefly made it a popular baby name). According to Ancestry.com, the name "Katniss" is a 21st-century creation, suggesting it wasn't ever used as a personal name prior to the publication of the Hunger Games. Ancestry.com isn't the most reliable source, but I wasn't able to find anything that contradicts this.
    Regardless, readers may reasonably think it was wholly made up for the books, like many names of fictional characters in sci-fi settings are, especially if they aren't aware of the plant or only know it by another name. In that context, it's reasonable for readers to expect the first name would be enough. – Scyrme (talk/solidarity) 00:07, 17 September 2026 (UTC)reply
  • Retarget to Katniss Everdeen with a hatnote to the plant. I agree the character is the primary topic.
    Regarding the pageviews, while it's true that it's difficult to tell how many of the views for Sagittaria were clicking through the hatnote, if you look at the all-time stats for Katniss itself, there's an obvious trend of gradual decline over time since 2015. The most plausible explanation for this is that the traffic for Katniss reflects the declining cultural relevance of the Hunger Games. I really doubt these stats are reflecting trends in interest for the plant. – Scyrme (talk/solidarity) 00:19, 17 September 2026 (UTC)reply
  • Keep: the Hunger Games character gets more page views, sure, but I fail to be convinced that she has enough long-term significance to be primary for her given name alone. And while this wasn't a common given name prior to the publication of the series, there are other potentially notable people with the name or nickname  – and even an orca with a mention on wikipedia! — Preceding unsigned comment added by Rosbif73 (talk • contribs) 07:34, 17 September 2026 (UTC)reply
  • Keep. I, for one, would probably search for just "Katniss" when searching, and am not sure I would've remembered her last name. Long-term significance is useful up to a point: if the vast majority of searchers are trying to find a particular article and we can expect this to continue for at least a number of years, then we should help them. The wikipedians of twenty years from now can worry about whether the book series has been sufficiently forgotten for the plant to be the primary topic again. Rusalkii (talk) 16:13, 24 September 2026 (UTC)reply
    @Rusalkii: "Keep" would mean "Katniss" redirects to the plant, not the character. Do you mean "Retarget"? Or did I misunderstand your argument? – Scyrme (talk/solidarity) 18:30, 24 September 2026 (UTC)reply
Tom Tipper
[edit]
No information about this character at the target. There are mentions in other articles though I do not see any as an ideal primary target. There are mentions of a Tom Tipper / Thomas Tipper at Beer in Sussex and Music of Sussex about a Newhaven brewer on whom a song was also written. Delete to favour search results. I thought about a disambig, but could not come up with an entry for the brewer.
This was an unsourced 2-paragraph stub that lasted from 2005 to 2006. It was merged to its then target, but trimmed over time, and subsequently removed, before it became a redirect itself. No reason to provide attribution. Jay 07:09, 8 September 2026 (UTC)reply
  • Keep - I re-added Tom Tipper to the target article. Based upon the diff you provided, I do not see any reason for the character's removal from the list, and so I conclude that it was done accidentally (after all, the edit was meant to add other minor characters to the list). Accordingly, I think the redirect is now sensible. I do not think the other mentions of Tom Tipper are significant enough to warrant a DAB or hatnote. ‡ El cid, el campeador talk 18:15, 9 September 2026 (UTC)reply
Knifing
[edit]
only refers exclusively to stabbing as a noun. as a verb, it refers to stabbing, slashing, carving, betraying, ignoring, overcharging, and... sharpening non-knife objects with knives? who the hell uses it for that?
i'm a little torn between deleting and soft redirecting to wikt:knife#verb, though consarn (talk beige) (count ribs) 18:59, 24 September 2026 (UTC)reply
Keep. Even if we say this is ambiguous, stabbing is the primary topic and the ambiguity can be resolved by a hatnote to cutting.
"Slashing" and "stabbing" aren't meaningfully different; it's the same crime - to kill or injure someone with a knife/blade. (cf. Slasher film) The sense "betraying" is from the expression "knifed [stabbed] in the back", so is in-fact also being used in the sense of "stabbing". The sense of "overcharging" is related to expressions like "gouging", so, again, is also being used to mean "stabbing", albeit in a broader metaphoric sense.
I've never heard of anyone using "knifing/knifed/etc." to mean "carving/carved/etc." or "ignoring/ignored/etc.", though apparently these are being used in the sense of "cut" rather than "stab". These can be handled b a redirect note pointing to cutting and/or cutting (disambiguation), or a new knifing (disambiguation) that links to Carving and Ignoring if we think these narrower uses in the sense of "cutting" are plausible searches and wouldn't fit within the existing cutting (disambiguation). – Scyrme (talk/solidarity) 20:01, 24 September 2026 (UTC)reply
That said, imo, the broader, more straightforward meaning of cutting is much more plausible than carving or ignoring; the latter interpretations seem like unlikely searches to me. If someone were searching for those topics, they probably wouldn't type "knifing" into the search bar to look for them. I personally don't think hatnoting to them is warranted, but won't object if others disagree. – Scyrme (talk/solidarity) 20:16, 24 September 2026 (UTC)reply
Nursing care plan for tuberculosis
[edit]
This is an odd one. There's no discussion of the topic at the target nor at Management of tuberculosis. The pre-BLAR content is an entirely unsourced article about the nurse role in general. I looked at several versions and found no mention of tuberculosis. This was supposedly moved to Patient care in January 2006 but the history and article remained at this title; it was BLAR'd six minutes post-move. This does get some views but the topic is not discussed so readers do not find what they are looking for. —Myceteae🍄‍🟫 (talk) 16:24, 24 September 2026 (UTC)reply
  • Delete, when you type in "Nursing care plan" in the search bar it autosuggests "Nursing care plan for tuberculosis" as the only other suggestion, likely leading to people clicking on it expecting an article on the topic and not a redirect to the page on tuberculosis. ເສລີພາບ (talk) 17:23, 25 September 2026 (UTC)reply
Comment - I don't have a strong opinion on whether this redirect is helpful, but it's worth noting that "the Logos" often is treated as a proper noun, especially when used as a synonym of God the Son (target of God the Word). In general it is common for "Logos" to be treated as a proper noun in the contexts of Christianity (see Logos (Christianity)) and Neoplatonic philosophy. If the redirect is not deleted it should be categorised as r from sort name. – Scyrme (talk/solidarity) 23:31, 24 September 2026 (UTC)reply
Also worth noting that "logos" without capitalisation could be interpreted as a plural for "logo", however, Logos still treats the Greek term as the primary topic and the inclusion of a definite article ("the") strengthens the religion/philosophy interpretations over the plural for "logo". – Scyrme (talk/solidarity) 23:35, 24 September 2026 (UTC)reply
    @Chubbles would you be willing to convert it back to an article then? If there's a valid article that's fine, but I don't think it's appropriate for a redirect or merge target because the label is a separate entity from Cornelius (he didn't found it or anything, he was just signed to it). The currently existing redirect doesn't help anyone because all they learn from Cornelius' page is that some of his albums came out on that label. You could learn that from Discogs or anywhere else, but Wikipedia is dedicated to substantial biographical information, not facts better suited to a database.   • Delete created in a bot-like fashion. Unlikely to be used by a human. Traumnovelle (talk) 23:07, 24 September 2026 (UTC)reply
  • Keep. Old Spanish names use this format because "de" was not part of their surname, it indicated who were their parents or from where they were from. For modern names, the preposition is now part of the surname. This is explained at WP:LISTAS and Spanish naming customs. Tbhotch™ (CC BY-SA 4.0) 20:40, 27 September 2026 (UTC)reply
    According to WP:LISTAS:
    Sometimes the name containing the prefix is not a family name, but a description of where the person is from. In these cases, the sort value is how the entire name is spelled. For Peire de Corbiac, "de Corbiac" is a description where Peire is from, the town of Corbiac. So, the name means 'Peire of or from Corbiac' and is sorted .
    So even if we apply this, the redirect is still incorrect as the sort name should not be partitioned at all. (This would also mean De Tapia, Andres is also wrong so maybe it should be bundled.) – Scyrme (talk/solidarity) 20:54, 27 September 2026 (UTC)reply
    it shouldn't be bundled, as that's a different flavor of wrong in other contexts (and also this one) consarn (talk beige) (count ribs) 21:24, 27 September 2026 (UTC)reply
    He is not French, he is Spanish, so I don't know why you selected the French customs instead the right customs immediately above: Generally, Dutch, French, German, Italian, Portuguese, Spanish, and Swedish names do not include lowercase particles in sorting, but do include uppercase particles. That "generally" is what I said above, for old names "de" and variants are not part of the surname; for modern names "de" and variants are part of the surname. Furthermore "Andrés de Tapia" was not his birth name, it would have been Andrés de Navarrete y González. He took "Andrés de Tapia" when he was given the title of "señor del Castillo de Tapia", a castle (I assume that) formerly existed near León, Spain. Something called Tapia must have existed in the area (example Rioseco de Tapia, literally "dryriver of Tapia"). The sorting is not incorrect, it is just a reflect of the lack of customs that were adopted until the 1800s. Tbhotch™ (CC BY-SA 4.0) 21:56, 27 September 2026 (UTC)reply
    The section I quoted isn't about French customs. The example is French, but it applies generally to cases where the particle is not part of a surname. The earlier section you quote is not applicable because it's applies to a surname, not to a description of where the person is from, which is what you argued this was. The additional context you've provided here clearly indicates that "de Tapia" isn't a surname but a descriptive title (comparable to "of Spain" in "Charles II of Spain"; the "of Spain" isn't a surname), so it follows the name should not be partitioned. – Scyrme (talk/solidarity) 22:01, 27 September 2026 (UTC)reply
    First and foremost I don't understand why you don't accept my opposition to your deletion proposal, being on the verge of WP:bludgeon this process. Because of this, this will be my last comment in this conversation and I still opposing its deletion as the nominator has not provided a legitimate argument for the deletion.
    Spanish language has grammar rules and academias dictating how to use the language correctly, something the English-speaking world seriously needs. Here are the APA style rules for Spanish :
    When looking up the last name "de la Rosa" in a phone book, would you look under last names starting with "D" or "R"? Well, it depends on the country where you're looking for the phone number. If you're in the United States, where the APA style was developed, you should look under the letter "D". In Spain and Latin America, you'll most likely have to look under the letter "R". [...] The APA Publication Manual is very clear on this point and states that, in Spanish, prepositions in names are omitted for alphabetical sorting purposes. Thus, a last name such as "de la Rosa" would be sorted as if it were written "Rosa de la".
    "Tapia, Andrés de" is not incorrect. The nominator only wants it to be incorrect, and until all the Category:Redirects from sort names are deleted as useless, this is a legitimate redirect. Tbhotch™ (CC BY-SA 4.0) 22:23, 27 September 2026 (UTC)reply
    Bludgeoning? I replied to you twice (three times now). Continuing a conversation with 1 person in good faith is not bludgeoning.
    I would drop it here, except it's relevant for this process that you've actually persuaded me. I was not aware that the convention differed in Spanish. Per the info you linked, evidently my original rational was mistaken. I'm now also in favour of keeping the redirect. Though strictly speaking "de Tapia" isn't a surname (so wouldn't be partitioned according to Wikipedia's guidelines), not everyone can be expected to know that. With redirects there's more scope for leniency. If one were to apply the cited modern conventions retroactively to the name on the assumption that it were a surname, Tapia, Andres de is what you would get. Both de Tapia, Andres and Tapia, Andres de are plausible depending on which language/regional conventions you apply retroactively.
    Though I've changed my mind as the nominator, I am not withdrawing since other participants have argued to delete, only one of them "per nom", and I have no idea if they would be/are also persuaded. – Scyrme (talk/solidarity) 23:48, 27 September 2026 (UTC)reply
Spear Odin
despite what thor would likely say of mjölnir, odin is not and has not fused or procreated with the spear. this is also otherwise grammatically fucked up, i guess (maybe the creator meant to create spear of odin?) consarn (talk beige) (count ribs) 17:50, 14 September 2026 (UTC)reply
  • Keep. I don't see the issue here. Anyone who types "Spear Odin" is clearly looking for the article about Odin's spear. They haven't employed correct grammar, but there's no requirement that search terms be grammatically impeccable. Why not instead redirect them to a notice admonishing them for their improper grammar? (Also, not that it necessarily matters, but Hammer Thor does in fact exist.) – Michael Aurel (talk) 00:46, 20 September 2026 (UTC)reply
  • weak keep. It only gets about 20 hits per year, so I'm not convinced it's super useful, but it is used at least sometimes, it's totally unambiguous, and we do also have hammer Thor→Mjölnir so it's not unprecedented. Caeciliusinhorto-public (talk) 11:13, 21 September 2026 (UTC)reply
  • Delete as not a plausible search formulation. A random view every few weeks only shows that this either pops up when people are formulating searches, or that they get there from one of the links on someone's talk page (there are no incoming links from articles).   • Keep – unambiguous, harmless, gets actual usage. Skarmory (talk • contribs) 09:29, 22 September 2026 (UTC)reply
  • Comment: Does it get actual usage? Or do all of its clicks result from the fact that it exists? I can't imagine why anyone would search for "spear Odin" instead of "spear of Odin" if they didn't remember the name, and didn't think of looking under "Odin". And that didn't even exist until a week ago. It has a grand total of five hits, all in the two days after it was created, and none in the six since then (my view tonight would probably make six all time, but it's not on the chart). If it didn't occur to even one editor to make a redirect from "spear of Odin" until this discussion (nearly twenty years after the target article, Gungnir, was written), then there's simply no way that people have been searching for "spear Odin" in significant numbers.
The link is being clicked because it pops up in the search window when people are looking for something else, and people are curious about what it refers to. Likely when typing "spear of..." and accidentally hitting 'd' instead of 'f', because then "spear Odin" is the top result. And it gets clicked on once every two and a half weeks. An occasional typo isn't a valid reason for keeping it. It's simply not how people search on Wikipedia; note we don't have redirects for "Arc Triomphe", "Spear Destiny" (or "Sword Destiny"), and I'm not even going to bother searching for a redirect called "Lord the Rings". The only reason we have "Hammer Thor" is because the same person who created "Spear Odin" created it. P Aculeius (talk) 01:04, 23 September 2026 (UTC)reply
Cherrylume
[edit]
The redirect previously targeted to Cherrylume Iron Lady Warriors before it became a redirect to UE Lady Red Warriors volleyball. Cherrylume was the sponsor company of the team, but without the initial article it was supposed to target, it has now become somewhat redundant. MarcusAbacus (talk) 07:42, 13 September 2026 (UTC)reply
  • Delete - this is kind of a weird one? I don't see that Cherrylume is discussed anywhere else on WP, but redirecting a company/brand name to a sports team is used to sponsor does not seem like it would be helpful to readers. I am seeing over 600 pageviews in the past 4 years, so maybe if it is a red link someone will create an article on Cherrylume. Or maybe not. ‡ El cid, el campeador talk 14:25, 21 September 2026 (UTC)reply
  • Keep. There does seem to be sources calling the team simply Cherrylume , so someone searching for the team will find the redirect helpful. Butu language (Central African Republic)
[edit]
I don't see any evidence that there is a language called "Butu" in the Central African Republic. Searching Ethnologue reveals that there is a language called "Butu", but it corresponds to the Gamo-Ningi language, which is in Nigeria, not CAR. Trying the Joshua Project or Glottolog reveals no matches. So I suggest deletion. Duckmather (talk) 04:16, 12 September 2026 (UTC)reply
That would leave a red link at the V&V page that identifies the languages in that source, which was the basis for Ethnologue. It would just have to be recreated. — kwami (talk) 04:37, 12 September 2026 (UTC)reply
  • Retarget to Glossary of 2020s slang#N, where the term is explained, at least in the short term. I think this serves readers better than retargeting to an article purely about advertising, particularly as the term is not even mentioned there. This is not specifically about advertising, although that is a part of it. In the longer term I think that there is maybe a 50% change that we will eventually have a valid article specifically about nostalgia bait (as a phenomenon) or nostalgia baiting (as a practice) in the future. If we let the glossary entry expand as required then it will become clear if and when that should happen. --DanielRigal (talk) 17:07, 21 September 2026 (UTC)reply
Sabarmati Junction (SBT) railway station
[edit]
This is a procedural nomination of behalf of ROLEXMEENA who attempted to RfD this in July but did not edit the daily RfD log. ROLEXMEENA created this as a self-reverted R from move, see Special:Diff/1363953523. Note that they're blocked for sockpuppetry, but this account is the sockmaster so WP:G5 doesn't apply. Maybe WP:G7, but it's unclear what they wanted. I know G7 isn't usually applied to page moves if the mover wasn't the only contributor to all pages, but this was a self-reverted move over redirect that lasted 18 minutes.
"SBT" is mentioned in the article for what it's worth, so seems plausible. So I don't think WP:G6 applies nor is this recently created for WP:R3. Fork99 (talk) 13:11, 12 September 2026 (UTC)reply
Multiple variations of Trans Sahara slave trade
Dozens of redirects with minor spelling differences by blocked user. See other mass redirect discussions at Wikipedia:Redirects for discussion/Log/2026 September 9#Eu Commission v Hungary. ☾Loriendrew☽ ☏(ring-ring) 14:27, 21 September 2026 (UTC)reply
as a heads-up, massxfd can make the process of nomming multiple redirects at once a little easier, and avoid cluttering talk pages consarn (talk beige) (count ribs) 14:37, 21 September 2026 (UTC)reply
Keep most, as despite being made by a blocked editor a lot of these are uncontroversially reasonable spelling variations. It's trivial to find variation in hyphenation between "trans-saharan"/"sub-subsaharan" and "transsaharan"/"subsaharan" on Scholar and Google Books; redirects where this is the only difference are fine and are useful for both searches and internal linking. Variation between "Saharan" and "Sahara" also seems generally fine; eg. "trans-saharan slave trade" and "trans-sahara slave trade" both yield results on Google Books. Searching for "[the] Sahara slave trade" shows that the unprefixed "Sahara" is also plausible variation.
Delete redirects where the hyphen is replaced by a space, as I don't see much evidence that this is common in my external search results and this isn't conventional for English in general. Seems more like an SEO technique than plausible language.
Delete redirects which capitalise Sahara mid-word without a hyphen ("transSaharan", "subSaharan"). These are entirely unnecessary for searching (the search engine ignores case whenever possible and will redirect you even if no explicit redirect exists; try a search for TraNs-SaHaRan sLave trAde) and are worse than useless for linking as they're incorrect but appear in blue, making unintended use easier. I strongly suspect these titles reflect how sometimes hyphens get omitted in, eg, previews extracted from pages on Google Books, even when they're present on the actual page itself. This is something a machine would do. – Scyrme (talk/solidarity) 15:24, 22 September 2026 (UTC)reply
Delete all relating to "Sub Saharan" (too lazy to list all, just spent a lot of time writing elsewhere): there were multiple slave trades south of the Sahara desert which could be discussed, including (arguably) the Atlantic Slave Trade, so the use of that namespace specifically for the one slave trade noted for crossing the Sahara satisfies confusion under WP:RDELETE.. Physical map
[edit]
Ambiguous term. I thought of a paper map, incoming links are split between the genomics meaning and the cartographical meaning (a map of the physical territory rather than political borders). Delete or disambig? There's a dab page in the history. See also Political map, which I am not bundling but which is similarly fuzzy. Rusalkii (talk) 22:42, 26 August 2026 (UTC)reply
  • Retarget - I'm pretty familiar with map terminology, because I just re-wrote the map article (GA, now going thru FAC). The term "physical map" is very rarely used, so it certainly does not deserve an article. Many important sources do not mention it at all:
  • The Glossary of the Mapping Sciences published by American Society for Photogrammetry and Remote Sensing - has no mention of "physical map"
  • The ESRI GIS dictionary - has no mention of "physical map"
So what does (did) the term "physical map" designate? The History of Cartography (vol 6 "20th century") does mention it twice on page 107, where it has "...a gradual shift of emphasis from the general political and physical maps to topical maps including more demographic and environmental themes ...". See also p 51. It is clear from the usage in this source that a physical map focuses on topography and the physical surface of the earth, rather than man-made features, particularly political boundaries. Google, FWIW, agrees with that assessment. The modern term for a map that focuses on the physical features is topographic map.
Therefore, the best thing to do is to redirect physical map to topographic map. Noleander (talk) 00:00, 27 August 2026 (UTC)reply
  • Not sure. Noleander's analysis does a good job of analysing solid sources, but when we're talking redirects, we also have to support casual usage that can't be documented, and I suspect that in that setting, "physical map" is used in contrast to electronic mapping, comparable to "snail mail" versus e-mail. (If anyone would study such terminology, it would likely be folklorists and linguists, not cartographers.) Most people will be aware of the existence of topographic maps, but most people will probably not expect this redirect to refer to them. I say "not sure" only because I don't know where we'd cover this sense; Electronic map redirects to Map. Nyttend (talk) 19:42, 16 September 2026 (UTC)reply
  • Noting the comment on Tavix's talk page from Jay (talk · contribs): "All the links at the #New national teams section are for the under-19 teams, and that includes Serbia and Montenegro whose under-19 team is a redlink now." That's accurate for the bulleted list at that section. I should have been more specific: I was referring to the prose before that list, which indeed links to general country names, not sports teams of any sort. So I agree with his earlier comment that this is a content issue. My conclusion is still delete, though. Unanswered is the question of whether the country of Serbia and Montenegro ever had such a team. If it did, delete per WP:REDLINK. If it didn't, delete because it never existed. --BDD (talk) 20:29, 19 September 2026 (UTC)reply
    If it existed, which the target says it did, from 1992 to 2006, does it deserve an article, or is this redirect sufficient? If it didn't exist, and the target is wrong, the entry needs to be removed from the target, and this redirect deleted. However, there is an incoming link from FIBA Europe and I tried hard, but couldn't find where it is linked in that article. Jay 08:15, 21 September 2026 (UTC)reply
  • Delete per WP:REDLINK. Serbia and Montenegro separated in 2006. Just one year later, Serbia hosted (and won!) the 2007 FIBA Under-19 World Championship. I think it's safe to say this team existed, brand new teams don't get to host and win major tournaments like that. -- Tavix (talk) 16:37, 30 September 2026 (UTC)reply
Runescape quest list
[edit]
I would like to delete these various RuneScape topics better found outside of Wikipedia. Quests are mentioned, and currency in relation to real-world trading. A few of those pages were originally created in attempts to write about RuneScape quests and currency, which is why I'm not keen on keeping them. The Red Axe started as some sort of joke page. Here for the one billionth edit (talk) 10:11, 12 September 2026 (UTC)reply
Delete most. The Red Axe (Consortium) would fall under WP:CSD#G3 as a hoax/joke article and should've been tagged for speedy deletion not blanked and redirected. No reason not to delete.
A few others here also at some time had attempts at (non-hoax) articles, but these were all blanked and redirected so there's no merge history to worry about here. It's safe to delete all these.
However, I would say keep/refine Runescape quests to RuneScape § Gameplay, since this topic is still discussed there. No reason not to assist readers in finding content Wikipedia does have coverage for. (But delete the "list" redirect, as there is no list.) Delete all the rest due to lack of coverage to redirect to.
I did consider if Runescape currency could be kept as it is mentioned in RuneScape, but there's nothing substantial and the relevant content concerns other topics such as monetisation (via RuneCoins, one of several currencies) and anti-cheating policies. Readers looking for info specifically about the currencies themselves would not find what they're looking for, so the redirect isn't helpful. – Scyrme (talk/solidarity) 18:46, 12 September 2026 (UTC)reply
only mentioned in passing, in a sentence that a reader who hasn't played dark souls (me!) wouldn't even notice the absence of. the pre-blar content was fancruft, with only 1.2 reliable sources (pc gamer and kotaku) actually about the damn place, with the rest being irrelevant and/or user-generated. i found maybe one or two usable sources, but i doubt they'd be enough to even warrant a mention in the article due to their nature. will be listing them soon regardless
coincidentally, most info on it was removed from the target shortly after the blar, but i couldn't find any evidence of a merge, so there's nothing to lose here consarn (talk beige) (count ribs) 19:40, 28 August 2026 (UTC)reply
  • Keep First of all, there is more SIGCOV than that. The article used a section from "You Died", which is a third-party book published by Tune & Fairweather analyzing Dark Souls. It's reliable significant coverage. The level is also featured in Dark Souls: Beyond the Grave, another third-party published reliable source. It's arguably standalone notable, and never went through an AfD process, just one user's personal opinion; I had just not bothered to continue expanding it. There's at least enough to talk about in the game article, and IMO the redirect was done without Wikiquette and without even asking me what the sources were. ᴢxᴄᴠʙɴᴍ (ᴛ) 21:24, 28 August 2026 (UTC)reply
Sakai Prefecture
Created with an edit summary of "alt name" but Sakai was never a prefecture, and no mention in the target page. The redirect seems to have been created by mistake. Warm Regards, Miminity (Talk?) (me contribs) 13:50, 22 August 2026 (UTC)reply
  • Delete. If it was never a prefecture then this is actively misleading and should be deleted. --DanielRigal (talk) 14:38, 22 August 2026 (UTC)reply
    No objection to the deletion of the redirect. Only for the record/if someone wants to replace the redirect with a proper article, Sakai was a prefecture (-ken), and was actually the most long-lived (or least short-lived) among no longer existing restoration-era prefectures: It existed from 1868 to 1881 (see ja:堺県 or Sakai Prefecture in the NICT Japanese Wiki Corpus; also for the Edo period/loose precursor, cf. Sakai bugyō, but any continuity is less direct than in other cases; unlike some other bugyō successors such as Yamada bugyō/Watarai-fu or Nagasaki bugyō/Nagasaki-fu, it was also never set up as a -fu, but was Sakai-ken from the beginning), at its peak it extended to roughly the Southern half of present-day Osaka and all of Nara until it was merged into Osaka in 1881. But the redirect to Sakai City is indeed off; cities of Japan didn't even exist as such before 1889 (their precursor -ku did, though, since 1878; Sakai-ku was initially part of Sakai-ken until the merger into Osaka). --Asakura Akira (talk) 15:48, 22 August 2026 (UTC)reply
  • As stated above, Sakai was a prefecture in the late 1800s. That status is also mentioned in the target article, so this seems to me like a keep until Sakai Prefecture is expanded into an article. Dekimasuよ! 03:30, 23 August 2026 (UTC)reply
  • Delete Since the city and the prefecture do not appear to have been coterminous, I think this is better left as a redlink.   • Comment - They were "removed" because you completely ignored the consensus at Wikipedia:Articles for deletion/List of alien races in DC Comics that only the entries that were notable, blue-linked entries should be merged. I just had to revert your improper merge again - you may disagree with the consensus at the AFD, but you do not get to arbitrarily ignore it. As for the Redirects in question, if they no longer point to an appropriate target, they should be deleted. This should not be used as a weird workaround to restore content that was previously determined to be non-notable. Rorshacma (talk) 17:09, 29 August 2026 (UTC)reply
    No, the AfD closure did not mandate the content at the target article and it cannot do that. That's not within the scope of AfD. Katzrockso (talk) 15:09, 19 September 2026 (UTC)reply
  • Black Mercy - keep per BDD. Martian (DC Comics) - White Martian and Martian Manhunter are articles, and the current target mentions both, the latter only in a template. Martian Manhunter is a Green Martian (It is also at RfD), but not the only one. I think White Martian will be a better target, as it describes well how Whites and Greens were connected, and has comparisons of both. Parademons - retarget to the New Gods section per Rtkat. There are multiple people with this name including a writer and a sportsman, but none with articles. The William Dunn disambig doesn't consider "Will", so that won't be a suitable alternate target. Delete to favour search results.
This was an article though, for 10 days in 2011, before being BLAR'ed. We don't have a page with bios of Harry Potter cast members, so I don't see where the pre-BLAR content can be reused. Jay 13:44, 31 August 2026 (UTC)reply
