Wikipedia:WikiProject Deletion sorting/India
| Points of interest related to India on Wikipedia: Outline – History – Portal – Category – WikiProject – Alerts – Deletions – Cleanup – Stubs – Assessment – Style – To-do |
This is a collection of discussions on the deletion and merging of articles related to India. It is one of many deletion lists coordinated by WikiProject Deletion sorting. Anyone can help maintain the list on this page.
- Adding a new AfD discussion
- Adding an AfD to this page does not add it to the main page at Wikipedia:Articles for deletion and neither does removing an AfD from this page remove it from the main page at Wikipedia:Articles for deletion. If you want to nominate an article for deletion, go through the process on that page before adding it to this page. To add a discussion to this page, follow these steps:
- Edit this page and add
{{Wikipedia:Articles for deletion/PageName}}to the top of the list. Replace "PageName" with the relevant article name, i.e. the one on the existing AFD discussion. Also, indicate the title of the article in the edit summary as it is particularly helpful to add a link to the article in the edit summary. When you save the page, the discussion will automatically appear. - You should also tag the AfD by adding
{{subst:deletion sorting|India|sig=~~~~}}to it, which will inform editors that it has been listed here. You may place this tag above or below the nomination statement or at the end of the discussion thread.
- Edit this page and add
- There are a few scripts and tools that can make this easier.
- Removing a closed AfD discussion
- Closed AfD discussions are automatically removed by a bot.
- Other types of discussions
- You can also add and remove other discussions (prod, CfD, TfD etc.) related to India. For the other XfD's, the process is the same as AfD (except {{Wikipedia:Miscellany for deletion/PageName}} is used for MFD and {{transclude xfd}} for the rest). For PRODs, adding a link with {{prodded}} will suffice.
- Further information
- For further information see Wikipedia's deletion policy and WP:AfD for general information about Articles for Deletion, including a list of article deletions sorted by day of nomination.
This list is also part of the larger list of deletion debates related to Asia.

[edit]- Kesava Pillai of Kandamath (edit | talk | history | protect | delete | links | watch | logs | views) – (View AfD | edits since nomination)
- (Find sources: Google (books · news · scholar · free images · WP refs) · FENS · JSTOR · TWL)
In traditional land tenure systems (and still recognized under modern Indian property law), a temple deity or family guardian spirit is treated as a "juridical person" capable of owning land.It does not imply that a royal king owned the village of Chenkal.Outside of the specific claims made by that family lineage—which have subsequently been mirrored on crowdsourced public platforms like Wikipedia—there is no independent, authoritative historical record or royal text that documents a sovereign "Kandamath Palace" as a seat of regional rule. The claim that he was a documented Jenmi or "Zamindar" who held massive tracts exists only on that Wikipedia page and its mirror sites—it does not exist in the actual sovereign archives of Travancore."Madom Thampuran Vaka" is standard tax and property terminology denoting land assigned to a family shrine or guardian spirit.Modern family chroniclers or casual internet editors took that exact property phrase from old deeds, misread the word "Thampuran" as a literal royal king, upgraded the family's ancestral Madom (homestead) into a "medieval palace," and pasted it onto Wikipedia. Over time, lazy internet copy-pasting turned a private family claim into a pseudo-historical "fact."The most damning proof against the palace narrative is its complete absence from official archaeological and cultural documentations. The Government of Kerala's Archaeology Department and extensive regional historical surveys (like the Heritage Series Thiruvananthapuram directories) meticulously catalog every single legitimate ruined fort, summer house, Kottaram, and Kovilakam in the Neyyattinkara and Amaravila belt. While they document authentic historical landmarks like the Ammachi Plavu or local Ay-dynasty relics, no state survey lists or recognizes a "Kandamath Palace".The claim on Wikipedia that Kesava Pillai was born in Vaikom in 1830 to a Namboothiri father exposes the absolute ignorance of the editors regarding 19th-century Marumakkathayam (matrilineal succession) and Sambandham marriage customs. Under Marumakkathayam, a child belong strictly to the mother's Tharavad and is always born at the mother's ancestral home. The father (especially a Namboothiri) merely visited the mother's house; the pregnant mother would never travel to or give birth at the father's estate. For Kesava Pillai to inherit the Kandamath estate in Chenkal under matrilineal law, his mother had to be rooted right there in the local Chenkal lineage. Claiming he was born at his father's house in Vaikom is a structural and anthropological impossibility designed to insert a prestigious geographic narrative while completely erasing the mother's identity (which explains why her name is conveniently omitted from their text). The narrative attempts to paint the family as a "cadet branch of the ancient line of Odanad rulers from the Kayamkulam Kingdom" seeking refuge in Chenkal during "medieval times." • The Math Defeating the Myth: The historic Kayamkulam War, where Marthanda Varma annexed the Odanad kingdom, famously concluded in 1746. If Kesava Pillai was born in 1830, placing the family's migration as "refugees from the Kayamkulam war" creates a massive, absurd chronological gap. This lazy juxtaposition of historical events completely falls apart under basic timeline verification. The profile picture uploaded on Wikipedia to represent the "Pillai of Kandamath" is nothing more than a cropped detail of a famous 1881 historical oil painting by Raja Ravi Varma. The canvas is titled "The Maharaja of Travancore and his younger brother welcoming Richard Temple-Nugent-Brydges-Chandos-Grenville, 3rd Duke of Buckingham and Chandos, Governor-General of Madras, on his official visit to Trivandrum in 1880". • The noblemen depicted standing in the background are standard members of the Travancore royal retinue and the Nair Brigade. Cropping a random face out of a famous, globally cataloged historical masterpiece and labeling it as a private family portrait of "Kesava Pillai" is a laughable act of modern forgery. The Wikipedia article states: "He was nominated for the seat of Neyyatinkara Taluk by the Maharajah in the newly formed Sree Mulam Council". This sentence alone contains an absolute historical and institutional impossibility:The Popular Assembly (Praja Sabha) which was formed in 1904, represented local taluks and land-holdings, and its members were strictly recorded in the Proceeding records. If he were nominated by the Maharaja to represent Neyyattinkara, his name must have appeared on pages 55–56 of the 1905 Almanac. Its absence is definitive proof he was never there. The "Sree Mulam Council" (upper house) did not have local taluk-level representatives nominated in that manner. The editors fabricated a political title by mixing up the terminology of two entirely different governing bodies.Official Travancore records from that exact 1904–1910 period show completely different, well-documented figures representing the Neyyattinkara region. Most famously, the legendary social reformer Ayyankali was nominated to the Sree Moolam Popular Assembly in 1911 to represent the region, and the fiery journalist Swadeshabhimani Ramakrishna Pillai was elected to the Assembly in 1910 specifically from the Neyyattinkara constituency. The official records are fully accounted for, and there is simply no historical "vacancy" or record for a Kesava Pillai of Kandamath. When family chroniclers try to engineer a "royal" or "elite political" ancestry, they look for prestigious historic institutions to attach their ancestors' names to. Because the Sree Moolam Popular Assembly was India's very first popularly elected legislature, it carries massive historical prestige. The writers assumed that because it happened over a century ago, nobody would ever go to the archives. OutroCanary (talk) 15:40, 4 October 2026 (UTC)

- Comment: I suspect the nominator's wall of text is not likely to be read in full by many (not even myself, to be frank), so I'll just point out that the first nomination from 2016 ended with "no consensus" and minimal participation. (I can parse the nominator is claiming this is a hoax, a matter for which I have no opinion on; the 2016 nomination was simply based on notability concerns and nothing else.). - Comment: this survived the first nomination only about two months ago (the general rule of thumb, albeit not strictly P&G-based, is six months before renomination of an outright-kept article), but I can't exactly say most of the "keep"s were all that P&G-based either (indeed, it was one of the more policy-based "keep" commenters that also put the {{not a ballot}} notice on that nomination), so a second look may well be warranted. - Delete: These sources just show that Bora has received media attention, but they don't establish WP:GNG/WP:BIO. The coverage is overwhelmingly tied to her activism and the 2026 student protests. It mainly documents what she did and said in connection with those events, rather than providing substantial, independent coverage of Bora herself. A burst of coverage around a recent protest movement should not be confused with standalone encyclopedic notability. The available sources do not establish the level of significant and independent coverage needed for a standalone biography. Stormbird (talk) 09:35, 4 October 2026 (UTC)
- Additional point: The sources being cited are all very recent, and the coverage is heavily concentrated around the same 2026 student-protest movement. This raises a WP:LASTING concern. Even if the recent coverage is considered sufficient for WP:GNG, there is not yet evidence that Bora's current media coverage will translate into lasting encyclopedic notability beyond the events that generated the coverage.Stormbird (talk) 09:53, 4 October 2026 (UTC)
- Delete: The subject fails WP:LASTING. Even if it meets WP:GNG, there is no point of having an article on someone who fails WP:EVENT and does not have any notable contributions or achievements. Farhanansari1994 (talk) 01:37, 4 October 2026 (UTC)

Nominating this article for AfD on the behalf of ~2026-53254-19. THEZDRX (User) | (Contact) 12:04, 3 October 2026 (UTC)
Their reasoning is:
I am nominating this article for deletion because I believe the subject's notability as an academic has not been adequately established under Wikipedia's relevant notability guidelines.
The article currently has a notability concern, and I have not found sufficient significant, independent coverage demonstrating that the subject meets the applicable criteria.
I also believe the article should be reviewed under Wikipedia's policies concerning biographies of living persons, particularly where claims are contentious or insufficiently supported by reliable independent sources.
I have no personal involvement in creating the article and am making this request based on Wikipedia's inclusion and sourcing policies. ~2026-53254-19 (talk) 11:34, 3 October 2026 (UTC)

Cocoaguy (talk) 18:19, 1 October 2026 (UTC)
- Redirect per WP:BLP1E and WP:NOTNEWS (namely point 3 "Who's who", which is very similar to BLP1E). News may cover his background but politicians and heads of state praising him as a "hero" does not change the fact that he is only notable for this single event, and there is ultimately not much additional notable information from the main article, most of it about the incident itself; any relevant career history and the status of his recovery can be added there.
- I believe it is too soon for him to receive a separate article under the assumption of further coverage and post-crash fame like Al Haynes, and the earlier referenced pilots/passengers of US Airways Flight 1549 and the 9/11 hijackings which themselves are much more significant incidents that continue to be referenced to this day. Plus, his role in the incident itself is actually not as significant as these examples since he was incapacitated after fighting against the first officer and opening the cockpit door, and it was other passengers and off-duty pilots who regained control of the plane. –Sonicwave talk 18:40, 1 October 2026 (UTC)
- Merge with Flydubai Flight 1073 and Redirect Just as the reasons above, the current informations on the page isn't warrant for an independent page - apart from the aviation incident part, while the rest of the contents can simply be merged with the incident article. Once we have more information that suggesting the pliot deserve his page, we can write a new article all over again.
- Redirect There's not a single reference on the page dated before 30 September, and the possibility of him someday receiving more notoriety doesn't make up for the lack of current coverage independent of the event. Tuirse (talk ☘︎) 18:58, 1 October 2026 (UTC)

- Keep: it is pretty clear at this point, based on the international investigations and comments by world leaders, that the event is significant. Extensive coverage clearly indicates that Machchhar played a significant and well-documented role in it. WP:BLP1E (namely the third condition) no longer seems to apply. The article is a much more complete biography now that Princessa Unicorn and others have improved it, so it is no longer a WP:NOLLM violation either. I agree with Ca that WP:HEY applies. - Keep: 1) As the objectionable LLM-generated text has been removed, 2) Smit has been praised by the heads of government of two countries and 3) It is highly likely that Smit will be awarded by one or more honours to commemorate his actions,
The article qualifies for WP:SIGCOV and WP:NOLLM and I suggest keeping it; or drafting it if issues still remain in the article. Further edits can improve the article per WP:HEY. - Weak Keep: Although I do agree with the aspect of WP:BLP1E, the amount of Significant independent coverage Smit Machchhar has got, like Reuters, BBC, CNN, The Hindu and others, Im inclined to place a Weak Keep for now. BengalMC talk 14:03, 2 October 2026 (UTC)
- Keep : this person, and his life away from this incident, now has significant coverage in major international media of multiple countries. Also now meets the general notability guideline. We have articles on a guy who started a garage band and did a couple of concerts that got very local media coverage; Smit Machachhar clearly meets a much higher standard for a notable-person BLP. N2e (talk) 14:33, 2 October 2026 (UTC)
- Keep The third condition that needs to be also met as per WP:BLP1E to not suffice for an article on Wikipedia states as follows:
The event is not significant or the individual's role was either not substantial or not well documented.
- The event, however, is significant and the individual's role in the event is also substantial, as elaborated by the Flydubai Flight 1073 article. Honeybrowneyes (talk) 15:05, 2 October 2026 (UTC)

- Redirect. Clear case of WP:BLP1E and also WP:CFORK. The point of discussion is not whether this person should be covered on Wikipedia in any way but whether a standalone article for him is warranted. And the answer to that is a clearly no. There is no significant information regarding this person that cannot be adequatly covered in the article on the event. And that is something none of the keep !voters have adressed.Tvx1 22:29, 2 October 2026 (UTC)
- Per WP:CFORK: "Most types of content forks are acceptable". This is neither a POV fork nor a "page of the same type on the same subject", so I'm not sure how that's relevant.
- Plenty of votes, including my own, have addressed WP:BLP1E. All three conditions must be met, and there is a decent argument that the third one is not met in this case.
- ~50% of the article in its current form contains information that would not be suitable for the article on the event, including his early life and career. This has also been addressed by a plenty of votes, again including my own. KikiFur (talk) 01:12, 3 October 2026 (UTC)
- But the early life and career sections are largely trivial and seem to be full of fluff to try and pad out the article. Anything noteworthy can be covered in the main article. Cubnorth (talk) 10:18, 3 October 2026 (UTC)
- It is hurtful to hear this bad faith comment about the early life and career of this living person. Certainly, I'm attempting to carry out research and find information in cited sources in good faith. I agree with KikiFur that there is good information here that should remain in this article and would be overweighted if duplicated in the article about the air incident, itself. Thank you, Princessa Unicorn (talk) 12:10, 3 October 2026 (UTC)
- An observation and opinion is not a bad faith comment. I appreciate the work that you're doing, but in my opinion, it feels like there's a view of more = better in this article, which is not necessarily the case when it comes to notability. A lot of the information does not appear relevant, and relies heavily on trivia and excessive quotations. Cubnorth (talk) 12:18, 3 October 2026 (UTC)

- There is definitely some fluff in the article right now (certainly at the time of your reply), but I think there is information that would not be suited for the article on the event, made noteworthy by significant coverage. His career history as a pilot doesn't seem irrelevant. The paragraph concerning fundraisers, as well as praise from cricketers and actors seems relevant also, and not suitable for the main article on the event. KikiFur (talk) 22:40, 4 October 2026 (UTC)

- Most types≠all. This is not one of them. All the truly significant information can easily be dealt with in the article on the event. Redirects were invented for a reason.Tvx1 15:11, 4 October 2026 (UTC)
- The two types I listed, POV forks and "pages of the same type on the same subject", are the only two the WP:CFORK guideline considers unacceptable. This is clearly not a POV fork, and the intended subject of this article (Machchhar) is not the same as the subject of the article on the event. This is not a "Domestic House Cat" vs "Cat" situation.
- Much of the information in this article should not be dealt with in the article on the event, and significant coverage of Machchhar makes it significant information. Perhaps some fluff may need removal, but that is not a reason for deletion. KikiFur (talk) 21:22, 4 October 2026 (UTC)
- But the early life and career sections are largely trivial and seem to be full of fluff to try and pad out the article. Anything noteworthy can be covered in the main article. Cubnorth (talk) 10:18, 3 October 2026 (UTC)
- Keep. First, I think he already passes per WP:GNG based on the coverage. Secondly, he passes even per WP:BLP1E. According to WP:BLP1E, 3 conditions should be satisfied to avoid having the page about the person. 3rd condition: The event is not significant or the individual's role was either not substantial or not well documented. John Hinckley Jr., for example, has a separate article because the single event he was associated with, the Reagan assassination attempt, was significant, and his role was both substantial and well documented. But this is exactly such a case here. The role of this pilot was central and well-documented in the event: while being badly injured, he unlocked the cockpit door, which saved all the passengers and the crew. My very best wishes (talk) 00:25, 3 October 2026 (UTC)
- Agree with your keep comments with regards to significant amount of coverage, as well as the central role in the story, and the continued coverage about him that continues to increase. Princessa Unicorn (talk) 22:24, 3 October 2026 (UTC)
- Keep Although the pilot may now be famous for a one-off incident of this nature, its his heroic act to save the pilots in the Flydubai Flight 1073 that warrants him becoming a notable personality in aviation fraternity. Hence I believe this subject passes WP:GNG. There are numerous examples on pilots having their own mainspace Wikipedia article including the likes of Abhinandan Varthaman, and Indian pilot who was captured by Pakistan during the 2019 Jammu and Kashmir airstrikes. Abishe (talk) 00:31, 3 October 2026 (UTC)
- There is also the case of Patrick Argüello and Leila Khaled and the attempted hijacking during the Dawson's Field hijackings; the identity of the Omani attacker is gradually coming to light, so I believe Smit Machchhar is becoming a significant figure two days after the incident. ~2026-53150-74 (talk) 01:44, 3 October 2026 (UTC)

- Comment As a reminder, the mere fact that other articles exist is not justification for keeping this article. If you could explain why there is a good reason the other articles exist AND show that this reason applies to this article, then that may be a good argument. However, I don’t think this can be done: Sully Sullenberger has received about 17 years of continuous coverage while the passengers and crew of Flight 93 have received a quarter-century of coverage. These individuals simply have a far stronger claim to notability than Machchhar (who has only received a few days of coverage). Spirit of Eagle (talk) 20:09, 4 October 2026 (UTC)
- The same can be said for WP:BLP1E though as reasoning for deletion. The pilot is reaching out to the media and has been a high profile individual. His role has also been described as heroic by sources as he was able to fight long enough to unlock the pilot's door. , How isn't this a substantial act? - Knowledgekid87 (talk) 22:28, 4 October 2026 (UTC)
- This isn't really relevant to what Spirit of Eagle is saying. They're not discrediting your arguments about BLP1E by pointing out that some of the !voters in this discussion are comparing figures with long-sustained coverage to a figure with much less. KikiFur (talk) 23:00, 4 October 2026 (UTC)

Keep. This biography should be assessed under WP:GNG and should not be conflated with the 2021 deletion of the separate event article "Rashmi Samant racism row", which was deleted pursuant to WP:EVENTCRIT. Whether a particular event merits a standalone article and whether a person is independently notable are distinct questions.
The subject has received significant coverage in multiple reliable sources spanning several years. Coverage predates the controversy and includes standalone reporting on her election as the first Indian woman president of the Oxford University Student Union in February 2021 (The Times of India,"Oxford University Student Union gets first Indian female president". The Times of India. 13 February 2021. Mint,"Meet Rashmi Samant, first Indian female president of Oxford University Student Union". Mint. 13 February 2021. and Deccan Herald"Karnataka girl first Indian woman to become president of Oxford Student Union". Deccan Herald. 12 February 2021.).
Substantial coverage also extends beyond the Oxford SU episode. ThePrint published a standalone profile by Unnati Sharma in October 2023Sharma, Unnati (10 October 2023). "Rashmi Samant's life changed after Oxford row. She's an author, runs a company & is feted in BJP circles". ThePrint. examining the subject's subsequent activities, professional work and authorship. Additional coverage exists regarding her later public activities and published work, including coverage of her book A Hindu in OxfordSoni, Mallika (27 September 2023). "'We're treated badly': 1st Indian to head Oxford's student body in tell-all book". Hindustan Times..
This pattern of coverage is not limited to a single event. WP:BLP1E requires all three of its conditions to be met, and they are not: (1) sources do not cover her only in the context of a single event, as the 2023 ThePrint profile addresses her subsequent career and authorship; (2) she does not remain a low-profile individual, having since published two books and worked as a public commentator; and (3) the event was not insignificant, as the 2021 episode drew international coverage and was raised in the Indian Parliament by the External Affairs Minister. The continuing coverage years after the original controversy therefore weighs against a WP:BLP1E characterization.
Any overlap with content at Oxford University Student Union § Rashmi Samant is a question of article organization and editorial scope, not evidence of non-notability. Per WP:SUMMARYSTYLE and WP:PAGEDECIDE, duplication concerns can be addressed through editorial restructuring rather than deletion. NomadBaba (talk) 12:46, 1 October 2026 (UTC)
- This SPA registered a few hours ago and has no edits outside this subject. Accesscrawl (talk) 14:20, 1 October 2026 (UTC)
- Delete. The relevant issue is not the number of citations but whether the sources provide significant independent coverage of Samant as a subject. The 2021 Times of India, Mint, Deccan Herald, ThePrint and Indian Express articles largely concern the same Oxford Student Union election/resignation controversy. The 2021 HinduPost article appears less useful for establishing independent coverage because of its close connection to the campaign supporting Samant.
- The later 2023 sources are more relevant to the GNG question, particularly ThePrint's profile, although substantial portions of those articles still concern the Oxford episode and her account of it. The key question is therefore whether this later coverage constitutes sufficient significant independent coverage of Samant beyond the original event. In my view, it does not establish sufficient coverage to overcome the GNG/BLP1E concerns.
- The fact that she has published books does not, by itself, establish notability under WP:GNG. The existence of the books is distinct from significant independent secondary-source coverage of Samant, and the relevant question remains whether the independent coverage of her as a subject is substantial and extends beyond the Oxford Student Union episode.
- Likewise, the fact that Samant was mentioned in the Indian Parliament does not, by itself, establish that she meets WP:GNG. Parliamentary mention may demonstrate that the Oxford episode received political attention, but it is not equivalent to significant independent secondary-source coverage of Samant as a subject. Notability should therefore be assessed from the quality, independence and significance of the available coverage rather than from the fact that the matter was raised in Parliament. — Preceding unsigned comment added by ~2026-53265-09 (talk) 20:59, 3 October 2026 (UTC)

This article centers around the subject and his campaign against noise pollution, which I do not believe is a reason for notability and does not meet WP:GNG. There are several articles, however, they all center around his campaign and one incident where he was assaulted. This reads more like a resume of his campaign rather than an encyclopedia article about a truly notable person. FiddleheadLady (talk) 00:53, 28 September 2026 (UTC)

- Keep - reading like a resume is not a reason for deletion per WP:Deletion is not cleanup. His campaign against noise pollution is basically his occupation and he's received a lot of coverage (in-article) from WP:RSs on it, plus a bit about him being assaulted also from reliable sources. Jishara (please ping upon response) (talk) 23:01, 28 September 2026 (UTC)
- Keep - Bapat has made several arguments beyond the concerns about the noise pollution and encroachment of public spaces for religious festivals. For example, he has criticized religion as a right to do wrong , and also recommended against participating in the Pandharpur Vari. This has attracted police complaints against him for hurting religious sentiments . His peculiar vocabulary has created a cultural impact in form of contrasting his standard Marathi against the degrading quality of colloquial Marathi , and hundreds of independent social media influencers have produced viral videos mimicking his style. His activism against noise pollution has also left a political fallout in form of forcing various leaders in taking sides on the issue. The Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis has taken cognizance of his demands . He has become a major flashpoint for state-wide socio-political debate on noise pollution laws , drawing reactions from prominent legal figures and civil rights organizations . The coverage is sustained and analytical, rather than a transient routine crime report. Per WP:ATD (Alternative to Deletion) and WP:CLEANUP, editing and rewriting should always be preferred over deletion. The underlying subject matter is thoroughly notable, and any issues with tone can be easily resolved through standard editing. Doctor joshi (talk) 15:16, 30 September 2026 (UTC)

- Lean Keep as there are over 20 sources which list the subject in their titles, and the fuller coverage of the stand-alone worthy web series, which seems like more than "routine coverage" (wording from the nomination). I realize there is concern that Indian sourcing is less than ideal, but the amount of coverage here seems to indicate that GNG may have been met, but will watch the discussion in case the nominators or others can make a better case for deletion. - Delete Cannot find any reviews. Lack of reviews is a valid reason for deletion, unless there are some other considerations that justify the existence of the page, and I see none here. Here is analysis of the sources:
- 1. Rising Kashmir is Credible daily English newspaper printed and published online.
- You can check their website: https://risingkashmir.com/
- I checked the Author is genuine and there are thousands of news articles covered by him.
- 2. Khel now India's leading digital sports news platform covering football, kabaddi, cricket, hockey.
Their website https://khelnow.com . Author has hundreds of sports related articles on his name.
3. Kashmir Images is also a daily newspaper publishing agency. Website: https://thekashmirimages.com/
I don't think there is any chances of these sources being unreliable. Guy from Kashmir (talk)
- Keep — I don't see any obvious issue with the sourcing. References 10, 12 and 13 in the article are good enough to warrant standalone notability to the subject. The sources appear to be RS and one or two quotes from the subject doesn't make those interview pieces. BhikhariInformer 📮 (Ping me or else I won't see it) 03:48, 24 September 2026 (UTC)

- Comment: Found a couple sources , , and . Although I doubt they consititute SIGCOV. Dz5t 8O12 (talk) 15:37, 21 September 2026 (UTC)
- @Dz5t 8O12: The standard of SIGCOV depends on how much commentary each source makes about the subject. From WP:SIGCOV: ""Significant coverage" addresses the topic directly and in detail, so that no original research is needed to extract the content. Significant coverage is more than a trivial mention, but it does not need to be the main topic of the source material." So if the source only has a single sentence about the school, that is not SIGCOV. If it has two paragraphs about the school, that is SIGCOV.
- In "4-yr-old boy ‘locked in dark room, tortured’. Delhi kindergarten horror in French embassy premises" I don't see an extended discussion on the Lycee itself, so I don't think it counts as SIGCOV.
- "French International School now open for Indian students" does have SIGCOV as the main topic of the article is about how it now has space for Indian students. If The Asian Age is a reliable source (if it has proper fact-checking processes) that would be great!
- "French International School in Delhi now open for Indian students" is also SIGCOV as the LFID is the main topic of that article. While The Economic Times is not listed in Wikipedia:Reliable_sources/Perennial_sources my understanding is that it should be a reliable source.
- So far two of the three sources have SIGCOV. If The Asian Age is an RS, I will make a keep vote.
- You can look for coverage in French newspapers and magazines, including those about French expatriates, for additional coverage.

That is exactly the reason why it fails WP:NFILM, because that policy states it needs at least 2 critical reviews to be considered notable. That argument could be used as rationale to keep any film. For example, "Film Name should be kept because it is made by a bunch of college kids and released only on VHS, which those types of films rarely gets any critical reviews...therefore we must keep."
The other rationale for removing the PROD was because it "was the only film in which Sujit Kumar was co-directed by a female filmmaker, Meeni Thakur." and it should pass WP:NFIC because of that. But just because an actor was directed by a certain person is not a reason for a Keep. That rationale could be used for any film, "Actor 1 was directed by Director 1 for the only time in their careers, therefore we should keep that article." There needs to be more of a reason for that to make a film notable. DonaldD23 talk to me 00:08, 21 September 2026 (UTC)

- Author’s Comments: KEEP. I recommend keeping Thakurayeen because conventional evidence of film notability—especially contemporary mainstream reviews—is unusually scarce for Bhojpuri films of the 1960s–1990s. Film scholar Ratnakar Tripathy writes that such films “are as a matter of rule not reviewed in newspapers or websites except for promotional commentaries and insertions” and notes “a near absence of textual analysis of Bhojpuri cinema either in the press or academic circles” (full citation in the article). This is a documented sourcing gap affecting older Bhojpuri cinema, consistent with the systemic-bias concern described at WP:BIAS: “lack of sources and therefore notability causes articles to go through the deletion process of Wikipedia.” This does not mean that the absence of reviews alone establishes notability, nor that every poorly documented Bhojpuri film should have a stand-alone article. Accordingly, I have used the alternative notability route recognized by WP:NFILM / WP:NFIC, under which a film may be presumed notable if it has significant involvement by a notable person and is a major part of their career. The article provides inline reliable sources establishing the notability of the lead actor Sujit Kumar. Thakurayeen was also the first film to be co-directed by a female director, but I do not contend that alone establishes the film’s notability. Rather, I ask that editors assess the available evidence of the film’s notability in light of: (1) the documented limitations of coverage of Bhojpuri cinema during the last century; (2) the film had a significant involvement by a notable person (Sujit Kumar); and finally (3)Thakurayeen was a major part of Kumar's career because it was the first film in which he was co-directed by a female director.Scholar165 (talk) 19:01, 24 September 2026 (UTC)

- Delete. The limited coverage of Bhojpuri cinema in the 1980s does not support keeping the article; articles are kept based on the reliable sources that they have, not based on what they don't have. Furthermore, merely asserting that "Thakurayeen was a major part of Kumar's career because it was the first film in which he was co-directed by a female director" is not enough; I would need to see a reliable source that says that this was a major part of his career. As far as I can tell, most of the sources cited in this article do not actually mention the film Thakurayeen. --Metropolitan90 (talk) 03:49, 28 September 2026 (UTC)

Subject is a short film released in 2011 that does not have enough sources with significant coverage to meet WP:NFSOURCES. The reception section does not contain two or more full-length reviews and the film was not widely distributed. Many of the other sources merely mention the film in passing as part of the director's debut work. The only potentially usable source I could identify is this Indian Express article, which provides brief coverage of the film and could potentially be considered a capsule review. The other reviews are by non-notable individuals and were published on blogs, making them unsuitable for establishing notability. This should either be redirected to Atlee_(director)#Career as an WP:ATD-R or deleted. Fails WP:NFLIM Jeraxmoira🐉 (talk) 11:30, 20 September 2026 (UTC)

- The nominator has kindly asked for three in-depth SIRS, so I have tried to answer that directly and have left out anything published by YourStory, interviews, and routine announcements.
- Forbes India, "2018 W-Power Trailblazers: Meet Shradha Sharma, the chronicler of young startups" (8 March 2018) . A bylined editorial feature about Sharma herself, covering her upbringing in Patna, her education at St Stephen's College, her journalism career at CNBC TV18, and how she founded and self funded YourStory before it raised outside capital. The Hindu, "High above the glass ceiling" [URL]. A feature profile of Sharma covering her background in Bihar and her career in media before founding YourStory. The Tribune, "Internet schools YourStory founder Shradha Sharma after viral 'sit properly' rant at Delhi's Taj Mahal hotel" (October 2025) , with separate IANS coverage in which she was interviewed about the incident. This is independent national coverage centred on Sharma rather than her company, and it postdates the earlier discussions.
- Taken together, these show independent coverage of Shradha Sharma as a subject in her own right across several years, which I believe meets WP:BASIC. I'm happy to help trim promotional material from the article if editors feel it needs tightening. ~~~~ CovidBubble (talk) 18:17, 24 September 2026 (UTC)
- The forbes article is I can condiser as SIRS, I am not able to see any links of CNBC TV18, I am not able to verify journalists name of The Tribune so this is not a SIRS. Add 2 more sirs, if I feel those 2 are sirs then I am willing to withdraw the Afd. Nomadwikiholic1 (talk) 20:53, 24 September 2026 (UTC)
- Thank you, {{u|Nomadwikiholic1}}, for reviewing these carefully. On CNBC TV18, the ''Forbes India'' piece you accepted [https://www.forbesindia.com/article/2018-wpower-trailblazers/2018-wpower-trailblazers-meet-shradha-sharma-the-chronicler-of-young-startups/49623/1] covers her career there, so I'll leave that point.
- The further sources I'd put forward as SIRS are:
- ''Prabhat Khabar'', Shambhavi Shivani (24 October 2025) [https://www.prabhatkhabar.com/education/success-story/shradha-sharma-success-story-sits-crossed-legged-in-taj-hotel-bihar-female-entrepreneur]. A bylined Hindi feature from a major Bihar daily focused on who Sharma is, covering her upbringing and schooling in Patna, her education at St Stephen's College, her earlier media career, and her founding of YourStory in 2008.
- ''The Hindu'', "High above the glass ceiling" [https://www.thehindu.com/society/high-above-the-glass-ceiling/article16658022.ece]. A feature profile of Sharma in a national newspaper, published well before the recent news coverage.
- The following may also be considered as SIRS individually as together they show that independent outlets in English and Hindi have covered Shradha Sharma as a person across a decade:
- ''IBC24'' (23 October 2025) [https://www.ibc24.in/country/the-yourstory-founder-went-to-eat-at-the-5-star-taj-mahal-hotel-the-manager-objected-to-her-seating-arrangements-shraddha-sharma-shared-a-video-and-made-the-allegations-3305370.html]
- ''The Tribune'' (24 October 2025) [https://www.tribuneindia.com/news/trending/internet-schools-yourstory-founder-shradha-sharma-after-viral-sit-properly-rant-at-delhis-taj-mahal-hotel/]
- ''Business Standard'' (18 August 2015) [https://www.business-standard.com/article/companies/ratan-tata-invests-in-yourstory-115081700158_1.html]
- If you feel this still falls short, I'd respectfully suggest draftification rather than deletion, so the article can be strengthened and resubmitted through AfC as further coverage appears. ~~~~ CovidBubble (talk) 03:08, 25 September 2026 (UTC)

I propose merging to 2026 Telangana local elections because, not enough WP:SIGCOV specific to this council, other than the general Telangana elections coverage.. No need for a separate standalone article. Vestrian24Bio 13:52, 12 September 2026 (UTC)

- There are many UK councils with far fewer voters and minimal media coverage, the sources being mostly government websites. Yet
- they still have their own election pages.

- 2023 Runnymede Borough Council election
- 2023 Ribble Valley Borough Council election
- 2023 Rutland County Council election
- 2023 Oadby and Wigston Borough Council election
- In fact these go even further in detail by showing the number of votes for all the candidates in each ward, not just the top 2. They have similar or fewer voters in each ward.
- These towns are also far less prominent in England than Sangareddy is in Telangana. It is a district capital. Ok123l (talk) 16:24, 13 September 2026 (UTC)
- @Ok123l: see WP:OTHERSTUFFEXISTS. Vestrian24Bio 16:31, 13 September 2026 (UTC)
- Per WP:OTHERSTUFFGENERAL, comparing articles of the exact same nature is valid when establishing global consistency. I quote:
Ok123l (talk) 16:37, 13 September 2026 (UTC)"In consideration of precedent and consistency, though, identifying articles of the same nature that have been established and continue to exist on Wikipedia may provide extremely important insight into the general concept of notability, levels of notability (what's notable: international, national, regional, state, provincial?), and whether or not a level and type of article should be on Wikipedia."
- @Ok123l: Notability is not decided based on the number of voters or a place's significance. Instead it's decided based on the amount of in-depth coverage on independent reliable sources. The elections that you yourself listed above all have such coverage from media such as BBC. But, for Sangareddy, all of the sources are general sources about the Telangana elections and not specific to Sangareddy elections. Thus, it fails Wikipedia's inclusion criteria to have a standalone article. Vestrian24Bio 13:39, 15 September 2026 (UTC)

- Merge per nom. On other examples shown above, it is my opinion that these would not meet WP:CONTINUEDCOVERAGE, WP:LASTING, WP:SUSTAINED to constitute their own stand-alone articles either (on OTHERSTUFFGENERAL, that would more likely be a case of
"Therefore, just pointing out that an article on a similar subject exists does not prove that the article in question should also exist; it is quite possible that the other article should also be deleted but nobody has noticed it"
, but that is a larger problem of UK local election coverage in the en.wiki (as these articles seem to be created almost automatically by users without actual considerations on SIGCOV) that cannot be properly addressed individually. Impru20talk 11:57, 20 September 2026 (UTC)

I have agreed a fresh AFD for this page as the previous consensus was quite weak and with the indeffing of one of the participants I don't think it's sustainable. This has been rejected at AFC so a careful look at the sources will be significant to the final consensus. Both other keep votes suggest WP:GNG is met, but all the sourcing I see is incredibly routine sports coverage. I would kindly ask that the two keep voters, @Oaktree b and @Jishara demonstrate which two or three sources that show notability via WP:GNG, because I'm not even seeing one. Lots of reliable articles covering results, but all of them stop short of actually showing WP:SIGCOV of the subject other than in relation to said results. If they're not fundamentally dissimilar in nature, you can ultimately use the precedent of one for the others, and probably get more support for it than you might have otherwise. If not you end up getting the result seen with the Nagaland discussion below, which is abuse of ONUS.

- Keep An Indian national radio network is the type of WP:GNG-passing (note, this is a radio station and CORP is not the correct notability guideline) entity on coverage alone where I have to question if sourcing was sought. This article is in a terrible condition, and much of its prose is so promotional it should be excised, but that's not an excuse. The article lacks information on the operating history of Big FM, which was sold last year out of insolvency after a previous sale announcement in 2019. The insolvency proceeding drew competing radio networks to bid on the network. Sammi Brie (she/her · t · c) 05:04, 8 September 2026 (UTC)
- This is a company therefore GNG/WP:NCORP requires at least three deep or significant sources with each source containing "Independent Content" showing in-depth information *on the company*. "Independent content", in order to count towards establishing notability, must include original and independent opinion, analysis, investigation, and fact checking that are clearly attributable to a source unaffiliated to the subject Takeover news is routine business news and doesn't pass WP:CORPTRIV. Announcements of company sales and insolvencies are considered routine news that fail both WP:CORPDEPTH, WP:CORPTRIV and WP:SIRS. Competing bids don't show notability per WP:ORGIND, WP:SIRS. scope_creepTalk 06:46, 8 September 2026 (UTC)

- Delete I can't even find what format this network plays, or about any of its nationwide frequencies or local breaks (presumably they cannot all be on 92.7 FM exclusively); this needs a major rescue or just plain WP:TNT, but we can't keep this version that definitely has LLM usage and lists all over it (and no, the playbacker singing the 'brand anthem' is of no note whatsoever). Nathannah • 📮 16:14, 21 September 2026 (UTC)
- The way these Indian national networks work, they have local presenters in each city. (The list of Radio Jockeys on their website shows this; each city has between one and five of their own.) A national network in India requires substantial variation in language and music content, unlike a monolingual or monocultural country where you can have the same music log in each market. And yes, they are almost all on 92.7, per I&B's list of operational private FM stations, which shows 58 Big FM stations. The sole exception listed is Lucknow, where it is on 94.3. - Keep per the points raised above. Sometimes we have to grapple with the fact that things in other countries aren't discussed/covered as cleanly or explicitly as they are in much of the West. Enacted too aggressively that constitutes some form of erasure.
