The 2025 Chilean Military Parade was held at O'Higgins Park in Santiago on 19 September 2025 to commemorate the «Day of the Glories of the Army». The ceremony was the final Great Military Parade of Chile presided over by President Gabriel Boric during his term in office and was attended by Defence Minister Adriana Delpiano. A total of 8,334 personnel from the Chilean Armed Forces and Carabineros de Chile participated.[1][2]
Among the distinctive features of the parade was a military free-fall demonstration by 21 Army paratroopers commemorating the 60th anniversary of the School of Paratroopers and Special Forces. The demonstration included Major Camila Orellana, the first woman to participate in the parachuting display during the annual parade.[3]
Background
[edit]The parade coincided with the 215th anniversary of the Chilean Army. Preparations for the ceremony emphasized the institution's personnel and included historical formations representing several Army units as well as personnel serving in northern Chile, the country's southern regions and Antarctica.[4]
The 2025 ceremony was Boric's fourth and final military parade as president. It was also the final parade attended in office by Army commander-in-chief General Javier Iturriaga.[1]
Parade
[edit]Boric arrived at O'Higgins Park aboard the presidential Ford Galaxie, accompanied by Delpiano. After receiving military honours, he participated in the traditional chicha en cacho toast and cueca performance by the Club de Huasos Gil Letelier. Major General Alejandro Ciuffardi, commander of the parade forces, subsequently requested presidential authorization to begin the march-past.[2][5]
The ceremony involved 8,334 personnel: 4,833 from the Chilean Army, 1,260 from the Chilean Navy, 951 from the Chilean Air Force and 1,290 from Carabineros.[5][6]
An Army historical formation included representatives of the 1st Infantry Regiment Buin, the 1st Artillery Regiment Tacna and the 3rd Cavalry Regiment Húsares. Three horse-drawn Krupp artillery pieces and an ammunition wagon from the 1st Presidential Escort Regiment Granaderos also participated.[4]
An Antarctic echelon composed of Army, Navy and Air Force personnel who had completed year-long deployments on the continent also marched in the parade.[5]
Parachute demonstration
[edit]The parade opened with a military free-fall demonstration by 21 members of the Army's Lautaro Special Operations Brigade. The demonstration commemorated the 60th anniversary of the School of Paratroopers and Special Forces and recalled a similar display performed during the 2015 Military Parade.[7][8]
The paratroopers jumped from an Army Aviation CASA CN-235 at an altitude of approximately 3,300 metres and landed on the O'Higgins Park ellipse. Major Camila Orellana of the Army Telecommunications School participated in the demonstration, becoming the first woman to take part in the parachuting display at the parade.[3][9]
Naval and aerial components
[edit]The Navy deployed 1,260 personnel. Its contingent included cadets of the Arturo Prat Naval Academy, personnel from the Naval Polytechnic Academy, the Amphibious Expeditionary Brigade and naval reserve officers. For the first time, a naval Antarctic detachment participated in the parade.[10]
The Air Force participated with 951 personnel and approximately 40 aircraft. The aerial echelon included combat, transport and training aircraft and helicopters, while Air Force personnel also participated in the ground component.[11]
The ceremony lasted approximately three hours, after which Boric attended the traditional reception at the Military Historical Museum.[2]
