This page enables administrators to handle requests for permissions on the English Wikipedia. Administrators are able to modify account creator, autopatrolled, confirmed, file mover, extended confirmed, mass message sender, new page reviewer, page mover, pending changes reviewer, rollback, and template editor rights, and AutoWikiBrowser access.

Editors wishing to request a permission flag here should do so following the procedure below. Editors requesting permissions are advised to periodically revisit the requests page, as notifications will not always be given after a decision is made. Editors should not expect their request to be answered right away and should remember to be patient when filing a request. To find out what permissions your account has, go to Special:Preferences, where your permissions are listed in the user profile tab under "Member of groups".

  • Account creator (add request · view requests): The account creator flag is granted to users who are active in the request an account process. The flag removes the limit on the maximum number of new accounts that can be created in a 24 hour period. It also allows users to make accounts with names similar to other accounts. The account creator flag is only given to users who participate in the ACC process and may be removed without notice should a user's participation in the account creation process cease.
  • Autopatrolled (add request · view requests): The autopatrolled flag is granted to users who are active in the creation of new articles. This tool is granted so their creations are auto patrolled in Special:NewPages. Unlike other requests, any user may nominate an editor for Autopatrolled, even without that user's consent. A user who wishes to have this flag generally should have created at least 25 articles and must be trusted, experienced, and must have demonstrated they are familiar with Wikipedia's policies and guidelines, especially WP:BLP and Wikipedia:Notability.
  • AutoWikiBrowser (add request · view requests): AutoWikiBrowser is a semi-automated MediaWiki editor for Windows, designed to make tedious repetitive tasks quicker and easier. It is essentially a browser that automatically opens up a new page when the last is saved. When set to do so, it suggests some changes (typically formatting) that are generally meant to be incidental to the main change. Please read the rules of use and registration requirements on the main page before requesting permission. This is not a true user right, but access needs to be granted by administrators just like other permissions. If approved, your name will be added to the CheckPage. Users with under 250 non-automated mainspace edits or 500 total mainspace edits are rarely approved. You will need to give a reason for wanting AWB access.
  • Confirmed (add request · view requests): The confirmed flag may be granted to new users who have not yet hit the threshold for autoconfirmed status. These are users who have not had both 10 edits and 4 days experience. People with this flag can upload files and edit semi-protected pages before hitting the autoconfirmed flag. Users requesting this flag must indicate clearly why they should be exempted from the customary confirmation period.
  • Event coordinator (add request · view requests): The event coordinator user right allows editors to create multiple new accounts, and to temporarily confirm accounts so that they can create new articles.
  • Extended confirmed (add request · view requests): The extended confirmed flag is normally automatically added to accounts after 500 edits and 30 days, but may be added to legitimate alternate accounts of users that already have this access. The flag allows users to edit pages under extended confirmed protection.
  • File mover (add request · view requests): The file mover user right is intended to allow users experienced in working with files to rename them, subject to policy, with the ease that autoconfirmed users already enjoy when renaming Wikipedia articles.
  • Mass message sender (add request · view requests): Mass message sender enables users to send messages to multiple users at once. This flag is given to users who have made requests for delivery in the past, clearly showing an understanding of the guidance for use.
  • New page reviewer (add request · view requests): The new page reviewer user right allows users to mark pages as patrolled and use the page curation toolbar. At administrators' discretion, the right may be accorded on a time limited basis or indefinite.
  • Page mover (add request · view requests): The page mover user right allows users experienced in working with article names to move them, subject to policy, without leaving behind a redirect. They may also move all subpages when moving the parent page(s). General guidelines include making 3,000 edits and 6 months of editing history. At administrators' discretion, the right may be accorded on a time limited basis or indefinite.
  • Pending changes reviewer (add request · view requests): The reviewer flag is granted to users who are experienced enough with Wikipedia editing and its policies for contributing to the process of reviewing articles placed under pending changes.
  • Rollback (add request · view requests): Rollback enables users to remove vandalism much more quickly and efficiently than by undoing it. Users who do not demonstrate an understanding of what constitutes capable vandalism fighting, either because they have no or little history of doing so, or show a poor ability to discern between good and bad faith edits will not be granted this right. Also, it is unlikely that editors with under 200 mainspace edits will have their request granted.   • Template editor (add request · view requests): The template editor flag allows users to edit protected templates and Lua modules. General guidelines for granting include making at least 1,000 edits overall (with at least 150 to templates or modules), being a registered user for over a year, and having a record of successfully proposing significant edits to several protected templates. Users should demonstrate proficiency with template syntax and an understanding of the need for caution when editing heavily-used templates.
  • Temporary account IP viewer (add request · view requests): Temporary account IP viewers are able to view the IP address information associated with temporary accounts.

The requests for permissions process is not used to review or remove user rights:

The bureaucrat, checkuser, and oversight permissions are removed at meta:Steward requests/Permissions. Stewards will typically not carry out such requests unless they are made on behalf of the Arbitration Committee, by a user who is requesting their own access be removed, or in cases of an emergency.

To make a request for a permission, click "add request" next to the appropriate header and fill in the reason for wanting the permission.

Administrators

Administrators are permitted to grant account creator, autopatrolled, confirmed, event coordinator, file mover, mass message sender, new page reviewer, page mover, pending changes reviewer, rollback and template editor flags to any user who meets the criteria explained above and can be trusted not to abuse the tool(s). Administrators may either grant these permissions permanently or temporarily. For convenience, a bot will automatically comment with relevant data if the user does not meet configurable qualifications. Even if the bot does not comment, administrators should review the user's contributions and logs to ensure the tools will be used appropriately and check for any indication of potential misuse.

Once an administrator has granted a permission or decided to deny a request, they should add {{done}} or {{not done}} respectively under the request with their comments. If a user already has the requested permission, or is autoconfirmed and requesting confirmed, {{already done}} should be used. N hours after the last comment was made (as specified by the config), the request will be archived automatically: approved requests will be placed here; declined requests will go here. Other editors

Requests for permissions is primarily intended for editors requesting a permission for their own account. Other editors are welcome to comment if they have specific information that is relevant to that request that a patrolling administrator is unlikely to discover for themselves. Otherwise, since only administrators can effectively respond to these requests, general comments or 'clerking' by other users are rarely helpful. Non-administrators cannot "decline" to grant a request, because they're not in a position to accept it.

A limited exception to this is Wikipedia:Requests for permissions/Autopatrolled, where third party nominations are encouraged. Other editors should still avoid offering general remarks on requests and leave the final decision to an administrator.

(Non-administrator comment) @LivingLife1976 Kismet Ke Here Phere created in mainspace on 20 July, tagged for additional citations the following day, orphan-tagged on 30 July (not a big deal), and moved by you to draftspace on 1 August "for further improvement", less than four hours before this request was filed. I believe this indicates that at least one very recent creation benefited from the scrutiny this permission would have bypassed.
But then, on 16 February Diannaa removed 1,113 bytes from Draft:Rawal Jagmal, identifying the removed material as copied from a published gazetteer. I would not treat this incident alone as decisive, especially given your subsequent works, but copyright familiarity is directly relevant as an autopatrolled user. So, I'd recommend waiting for a longer clean record of fully prepared mainspace creations, after all, that is what this bit is about; it doesn't make you capable of anything special on-wiki. Hi! I'm here to request permanent autopatrolled rights. I was previously granted a 2-month temporary autopatrolled right back in June, but the period will end on August 11th. In total, I've created over 130 articles for Wikipedia with a focus on biographies of underrepresented individuals, including 10 DYKs, and have brought two articles to GA status. I've also been quite active in the Articles for Deletion procedure and in GA reviewing. I've grown quite familiar with the process of article creation on Wikipedia, and plan to continue creating more articles, so I'd love to get permanent autopatrolled rights. Thank you! I am an experienced Wikipedian, former admin (107/1/1). Desysoped in 2023 due to inactivity. I originally received autopatrolled priviliges in 2009, although these seem to have been revoked during the desysoping. According to my tally, I have about 50 thousand edits, have created about two and a half thousand articles, have significantly contributed to 207 DYKs, 187 GAs, 19 FLs, 4 GT and 2 FT, and have conducted 309 GA reviews. I would like to create navigation templates for groups of related articles that currently lack them and use AWB to add those templates where appropriate. I have not created navigation templates before, but I am familiar with Wikipedia’s policies and would take care to review my work and ensure edits are appropriate. I understand if more experience with this type of maintenance work is needed before being granted the permission. If granted, I would use AWB carefully and review each edit before saving. I already have some experience with making changes using semi-automatic tools (and even my automatic bot) I build myself with PyWikiBot, but it would be a lot easier if I didn't have to write an entire program each time I want to make new edits.

Hello! I recently saw this tool pop while looking at my watchlist and I decided I kind of need this. I make articles and heavily expand articles during my pasttime, and sometimes wrong grammar slips by whenever I make/edit these articles. One of the hardest ones to spot are the typos and double letters. I would mostly use the AWB just so I could check the grammar on the articles I've edited and some others as well. This is just so that not another editor has to fix a typo I made for some time ago. If you would like some more information, I would happily oblige. I can confirm @Jishara is an excellent participant at AfD. Having recently returned after a two month break, I've found their comments to be beneficial in helping establish my own thoughts on nominated articles. They are already autopatrolled, and have authored over a hundred BLPs. (Huge respect to the redirect expansions I'll add!) I think they're more than set for patrolling. You have my support, @Jishara! Just noting that I, and likely other admins, are holding off on evaluating this request because of the significant amount of recent AFDs that Jishara has participated in but which have not yet been closed. This is not in any way a mark against Jishara, but with about 20% of their AFD participations pending closure, attempting to assess their track record right now would either entail premature exclusion of recent participation, or a lot of duplicated work in assessing their participation in those recent discussions. signed, Rosguill talk 19:35, 3 August 2026 (UTC)reply

Jishara, I don't think that's necessary, unless you sharply increase your daily participation to an even greater rate (which depending on how crowded AFD is on a given day, may not even be physically possible on some days), as the last week-and-spare-change of recent and open discussions will make up a less and less significant fraction of your overall record. signed, Rosguill talk 23:51, 4 August 2026 (UTC)reply

Thank you for showing me that request. I searched a lot for it but couldn't find it.
@Sohom Datta: Regarding the ColanXP issue, It was an accidental misjudgment on my part due to a complete misunderstanding of the tool at the time. I mistakenly thought clicking the checkmark button simply meant "I have looked at this page and added cleanup tags," rather than fully approving it for the mainspace and removing it from the NPP feed. User:DoubleGrazing kindly corrected my error right after it happened. After the issue, I started spending time to understand and learn WP:NPP, WP:GNG, and other policies to make sure that these issue won't arise again.
Now, I fully understand that NPR is an important job and I know that articles must strictly meet WP:GNG and WP:V to remain in the mainspace, and that subjects without reliable, independent secondary sources belongs in draftspace. I want to help with the backlog and I promise to exercise extreme caution from now on. If a full restoration is not possible, I would be really grateful if you could provide a short extension, so that I can prove that I have corrected my issues and knows how to use the tools responsibly. Thank you for your contributions to Wikipedia and your interest in this permission. Unfortunately, I'm not seeing quite enough article creation and deletion experience to be comfortable conferring permissions just yet: 50% is a low AFD match rate, and I'm not seeing article creation experience to make up for that. Separately, reviewing your edit history, while technically your account was created in March, you've only really been actively editing since June, which would mean that in practice you're a bit short of the prerequisite 3 months of experience.  Not done for now, but do consider reapplying again in the future once you have a bit more experience. signed, Rosguill talk 14:46, 5 August 2026 (UTC)reply

Rosguill: Thank you for reviewing my request. While creating those articles, I inadvertently left some references pointing to the main domain instead of the exact url. I corrected the citations once I realised the issue. There was no intention to misrepresent the sources, and I appreciate you bringing this to my attention. Sorry, I don't find that explanation adequate. Just looking at Sangappa A. Agadi, prior to the PROD see citation #4. The metadata seems to be about a case of Agadi v. Shivamurthy Swami, regarding a supreme court case related to the 1967 Indian election. The actual link, however, has a completely different title, was published in 2008, and is completely irrelevant to Agadi as far as I can see. And while additional sources to back claims have been added to the article since then, the irrelevant 2008 ruling is still cited now, in two different locations, (#6 in this currentrevision). At minimum, this is carelessness incompatible with the expectations of a new page reviewer, and beyond that, it's rather strong evidence of inappropriate WP:LLM use.  Not done signed, Rosguill talk 21:42, 6 August 2026 (UTC)reply

 Not done; your last two requests, in April and May of this year, were both declined due to a low AFD match rate (in addition to other concerns). Since then, your match rate appears to have gotten worse, with none of the discussions since May going your way. Match rate isn't everything, so I looked through your arguments as well, and frankly they're even more concerning than the match rate: at Wikipedia:Articles for deletion/List of extrasolar candidates for liquid water and Wikipedia:Articles for deletion/Tau Ceti e (2nd nomination), the two most recent discussions to be closed, you present arguments that have zero grounding in Wikipedia guidelines or policy. I am requesting the page mover permission to assist me with my work as a new page reviewer, Articles for Creation reviewer, and article creator. First, I am a new page reviewer who regularly reviews submissions at AfC and have needed to request speedy deletion of redirects on some occasions. This permission will allow me to complete these moves in a single revision. Second, also related to my new page reviewer responsibilities, I sometimes need to WP:DRAFTIFY articles, and when I do this, I have to request speedy deletion for cross-namespace redirects. This permission will allow me to avoid leaving behind a redirect that needs to be deleted with suppressredirect. Third, if I am writing new articles and I am not translating from another language wiki with ContentTranslation, I may work on drafts in user space, and I may need to have redirects deleted for drafts I write in user space. I would like to request rollback rights. I check the recent changes page a couple times a day and I use Twinkle currently to revert vandalism. I have over 200 mainspace edits as well as extended-confirmed permissions. I always use warning templates after reverting edits and make reports to AIV when necessary. Rollback would help me look through recent changes much more effectively with tools such as Interceptor or WikiShield. Yes. I have used the template editor right on Module:Gridiron color/data & Module:College color/data, which are both high-risk templates. Here's the edit diff from May 22, 2026 from when I previously had the WP:TPE right and used it to change the HTML hex color codes for the Canadian Football League (CFL)'s Hamilton Tiger-Cats. Here's the edit diff from April 29, 2026 from when I previously had the template editor right and used it to change the historical HTML color codes for the National Football League (NFL)'s Dallas Cowboys. Here's the edit diff from March 29, 2026 from when I previously had the template editor right and used it to change the URL source reference for the California Golden Bears. That being said, there does appear to be a reasonable amount of sandboxing for some of these changes (e.g. Special:Diff/1348021134), and I am very appreciative of the descriptive edit summaries (With a courtesy ping to WikiOriginal-9 who edits the same modules without any summaries). As I think I've said before, no one is perfect (my talk page is a perfect example of that), and (so far) no one seems to have noticed or cared about the occasionally-rapid-reverts of changes. I'd like to wait to hear what MSGJ thinks about this since they asked the initial follow-up question, but I think at the moment I am tentatively an accept. I was doing a periodic batch check of all templates with at least 5000 transclusions, and don't have much stake in this specific template. I wish we applied more categorical rules and had less of a culture of exceptions when applying protections based on transclusion count, but for better or worse we do have a culture of exceptions so there's no harm in adding one more (in other words, lowering the protection is fine with me). * Pppery * in solidarity 01:12, 6 August 2026 (UTC)reply

I think the requester needs Module:Deprecated archive unprotected. The template page should probably be TE-protected, since it just calls the module and there is no reason to change it.
