[edit]Is this Power Supply Safe to Use on a PS2 Slim?
[edit]I found this power supply which the manufacturer claims is safe to use on a PlayStation 2 Slim. However, before I buy and connect this power supply to my PS2 Slim, I want to make sure that it really is safe. My main concern is that the PS2 Slim is expecting 8.5 volts and this power supply is rated at 9 volts. My limited understanding of electronics is that exceeding the voltage can damage your equipment. Maybe the power supply has a way of reducing the voltage from 9 to 8.5 when connected to a PS2 Slim, but the product description doesn't explicitly state this. So, before I buy this, I want to make sure that it's safe to use on PS2 Slim? A Quest For Knowledge (talk) 15:53, 6 February 2026 (UTC)
- Most electronics are built to have a +-10% of tolerance for voltages, so using a high quality (aka one with proper cooling and stable / low noise output ) is probably going to be just fine. 海盐沙冰 / aka irisChronomia / Talk 16:26, 6 February 2026 (UTC)

- If you look on eBay (and perhaps other sites marketing used goods) you can find genuine PS2 slim power supplies at about half that cost. These are likely salvaged from broken systems or parted out from used systems. Even though used, they may be better quality than generic all-in-one power supplies. -- Tom N talk/contrib 02:29, 7 February 2026 (UTC)
- As irisChronomia said, most electronics are built with enough tolerance that as long as you're only off by a few volts. It might run a little bit hotter but with a difference of only half a volt the difference would be negligible mghackerlady (talk) (contribs) 15:50, 11 February 2026 (UTC)
