Wikipedia:Requests for page protection
| Welcome—request protection of a page, file, or template here. | ||
|---|---|---|
|
Before requesting, read the protection policy. Full protection is used to stop edit warring between multiple users or to prevent vandalism to high-risk templates; semi-protection and pending changes are usually used to prevent IP and new user vandalism (see the rough guide to semi-protection); and move protection is used to stop pagemove revert wars. Extended confirmed protection is used where semi-protection has proved insufficient (see the rough guide to extended confirmed protection). After a page has been protected, it is listed in the page history and logs with a short rationale, and the article is listed on Special:ProtectedPages. In the case of full protection due to edit warring, admins should not revert to specific versions of the page, except to remove obvious vandalism.
Request addition of protection to a page, or increasing the current protection level
Request removal of protection from a page, or reducing the current protection level
Request a specific edit be made to a protected page
Request the non-urgent protection of multiple pages that do not require immediate administrator attention

Current requests for increase in protection level
Place requests for protection increases at the BOTTOM of this section. If you cannot find your request, check the archive of requests or the page history. Only recently answered requests are still listed here.
Indefinite extended confirmed protection: Almost every change over the past few months (aside from reverts and removing protection notice) has been disruptive, even before a semi-protection of one year ended. SNUGGUMS (talk / edits) 03:00, 4 October 2026 (UTC)
Temporary semi-protection: Persistent sockpuppetry – Sockpuppetry crossed with COI/UPE. The exact details of how many people are involved are a bit opaque because of the sockpuppetry but it appears to be at least two, including the article subject and someone paid to edit on her behalf. They have been asked to clarify this, stop engaging in sockpuppetry, and make the necessary disclosures (see here, here, here and here) but haven't done so.
They have a good faith desire to see the article updated and to see some unnecessary person info removed from it (which has now been done); but they are not using sources, removing existing sources and relevant info without explanation, and generally being disruptive. Protecting the page might prompt them to engage in discussion and lead to a resolution of these good faith concerns. AntiDionysius (talk) 15:33, 4 October 2026 (UTC)
Temporary extended confirmed protection: Persistent disruptive editing – Persistent disruptive editing on this page and other Ahom-related pages. I think this falls under Contentious topics - South Asia.
EDIT: User in question is the subject of a sock puppetry investigation https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Wikipedia:Sockpuppet_investigations/Ney_konware

Reason: Promotional material has been added by a number of sockpuppets. https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/User:BManning08 https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/User:TheFinalCut1 https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/User:Upgrader101
After these accounts were banned the same edits are now being made by temporary accounts. https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Special:Contributions/~2026-50864-93 https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Special:Contributions/~2026-53104-86 Idontwantaaccount (talk) 07:06, 5 October 2026 (UTC)
Reason: Temporary extended confirmed protection: Persistent disruptive editing – Recent removal/reversion of sourced material and continued disruption by a new user connected to the same dispute affecting other Ahom-related articles like Joymoti Konwari and Ahom kingdom. The article falls within the South Asia contentious topic, and temporary extended-confirmed protection may help prevent further disruption. Ananya Taye (talk) 07:59, 5 October 2026 (UTC)
- Automated comment: This user who requested protection has been blocked from editing Wikipedia.—cyberbot ITalk to my owner:Online 12:51, 5 October 2026 (UTC)
- The user who is disrupting Ahom articles is the subject of a sock puppetry investigation https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Wikipedia:Sockpuppet_investigations/Ney_konware Theemausoliam (talk) 16:03, 5 October 2026 (UTC)
Temporary semi-protection: Persistent vandalism. Toketaatalk 14:36, 5 October 2026 (UTC)
Declined – Not enough recent disruptive activity to justify protection. The Bushranger One ping only 23:41, 5 October 2026 (UTC)
- You should reconsider this, The Bushranger; more vandalism has since occurred on the page. SNUGGUMS (talk / edits) 04:01, 6 October 2026 (UTC)
Temporary semi-protection: Persistent sockpuppetry – LTA target. Alith Anar 19:12, 5 October 2026 (UTC)
Temporary semi-protection: Persistent vandalism – Ban evasion by User:MariaJaydHicky. Binksternet (talk) 21:02, 5 October 2026 (UTC)
- Having it only be temporary would just be a band-aid at best given that banned user's relentless socking across many pages. There's no point in not making semi-protection (or extended-confirmed protection) indefinite here. SNUGGUMS (talk / edits) 04:04, 6 October 2026 (UTC)
Indefinite semi-protection: Persistent vandalism – The page was moved a little while ago, and I think we lost the page protection then. WhatamIdoing (talk) 01:17, 6 October 2026 (UTC)
Declined – No changes to the current protection level are required at this point in time. Page was deliberately chaged from semiprotection to Pending Changes after the move, and that seems to be sufficient for now. The Bushranger One ping only 02:23, 6 October 2026 (UTC)
Reason: High amount of edit warring, especially by unregistered users. Repeated insertion of trying to show the company as defunct and merged into Skydance Corporation, though the merger hasn't happened yet. Linkin Prankster (talk) 02:32, 6 October 2026 (UTC)
Indefinite pending changes: Persistent vandalism – For as long as this website exists, there will be people attempting to promote their coins. My most recent revert was of a TA who created an uncited story (the sources used were primary sources) to promote a coin, along with a crypto address. Pump.fun is quite literally a pump and dump website. The Wikipedia page is a very attractive way to advertise, and it was a week before this edit was caught. DonnieⓃⓄⓋⒶ 02:49, 6 October 2026 (UTC)
- Also, please see these crypto article sanctions for similar pages with indefinite protections. DonnieⓃⓄⓋⒶ 02:56, 6 October 2026 (UTC)
Semi-protected for a period of 2 years, after which the page will be automatically unprotected. Due to the nature of the problematic edits at hand, I'm willing to implement a long-term semi-protection period. Pending changes won't help much if I or another admin has to revdel a virus link or someone's stolen information. Yue🌙 (talk) 04:00, 6 October 2026 (UTC)
Current requests for reduction in protection level
Reason: Protection was bumped from semi to extended confirmed in 2022 after a multi-day long vandal spree waged by a known LTA through multiple throwaway accounts. In the four years since, they are seemly inactive, with their last known account discovered on July 2023 (see Wikipedia:Sockpuppet investigations/Awolf58/Archive). With this in mind, it doesn't seem too unreasonable to give semi another wurl. Giovanni Potage (talk) 11:39, 5 October 2026 (UTC)
Reason: No longer nessecary. The sock responsible for protection has probably moved on, judging how long their last known account has been inactive for (see Wikipedia:Sockpuppet investigations/Stephaniemuue/Archive). Giovanni Potage (talk) 11:45, 5 October 2026 (UTC)
