Fair use rationale for Image:TimesMT.jpg
[edit]
Image:TimesMT.jpg is being used on this article. I notice the image page specifies that the image is being used under fair use but there is no explanation or rationale as to why its use in this Wikipedia article constitutes fair use. In addition to the boilerplate fair use template, you must also write out on the image description page a specific explanation or rationale for why using this image in each article is consistent with fair use.
Please go to the image description page and edit it to include a fair use rationale. Using one of the templates at Wikipedia:Fair use rationale guideline is an easy way to insure that your image is in compliance with Wikipedia policy, but remember that you must complete the template. Do not simply insert a blank template on an image page.
If there is other fair use media, consider checking that you have specified the fair use rationale on the other images used on this page. Note that any fair use images uploaded after 4 May, 2006, and lacking such an explanation will be deleted one week after they have been uploaded, as described on criteria for speedy deletion. If you have any questions please ask them at the Media copyright questions page. Thank you.

Coverage of political stance and perceived party bias
[edit]Times of Malta is formally an independent, liberal‑conservative paper with a strong institutional history and a good reliability reputation in some international media‑rating projects. However, that description alone misses how it actually sits inside Malta’s highly polarised, party‑centred media system.
Within Malta, especially among Labour supporters, the paper is widely experienced as having a systematic negative tilt toward the Labour Party and a relatively more sympathetic stance toward the Nationalist Party (PN). This perception isn’t just emotional, It is shaped by:
- its historical roots in the Constitutional tradition. Historically, the Constitutional Party cooperated with Labour and was often in open conflict with the Nationalists; but in terms of class, outlook, and the English‑speaking establishment, once Malta stabilised into the post‑war two‑party system (PN vs Labour), that sociological and cultural space tended to map more closely onto what became the Nationalist Party’s electorate, rather than onto Labour’s.
- its consistently aggressive scrutiny of Labour governments,
- its concrete “revolving‑door” cases where senior Times of Malta editorial staff move directly into PN campaign leadership roles. Those staff–party linkages reinforce the sense that the newsroom’s culture and networks are closer to PN than to Labour.
At the same time, there is little rigorous, public, quantitative content analysis that measures tone toward each party across thousands of articles.
So there are strong, well‑attested local perceptions and some hard examples of structural proximity to PN, but not a formal bias score.
The key analytical point is that the current Wikipedia article presents Times of Malta mainly as a historic, institutionally independent paper, while largely ignoring this lived reality of perceived anti‑Labour / pro‑PN bias and the way the outlet is embedded in Malta’s partisan media ecology.
