Firing from Columbia Journalism Review
[edit]I'd don't know what @Secarctangent means here by "taking sides", but I removed some quotes and exposition about his firing due to WP:UNDUE focus on a WP:RECENT event. We should report the firing. But it doesn't need to be its own section and we don't need the color commentary. --ZimZalaBim talk 16:20, 11 May 2025 (UTC)
- Failing to report the substance of the allegations when they are in a highly-visible, reliable source like the NY Times leaves readers with a lack of understanding of the allegations and could potentially cause bias.
- Clearly due to characterize the allegations. Secarctangent (talk) 03:34, 12 May 2025 (UTC)
- Yes, we can cite the Times report. But it is undue to simply re-post a quote of his personal response. There's little encyclopedic focusing so much on this one incident that hasn't shown any longstanding impact. UNDUE/RECENT still very much apply, even if he's quoted in the NYT. --ZimZalaBim talk 12:30, 12 May 2025 (UTC)
- I don't think it's UNDUE to include some details of the firing. Without any details, we just have that he was fired for his treatment of staff. I don't think it's neutral to include that without including his denial that he mistreated any staff. Marquardtika (talk) 15:17, 12 May 2025 (UTC)
- In that case I'd suggest we simply say "Chan disputes the firing" or somethign like that with the NYT article references. Pasting multiple lines of his quote is putting undue focus on his personal feelings on the matter. --ZimZalaBim talk 18:26, 12 May 2025 (UTC)

- I think a summary saying something like "Chan was fired after complaints about his treatment of staff. He denies mistreating any staff" or something along those lines would be a good summary of the available sources. Marquardtika (talk) 19:44, 12 May 2025 (UTC)
- Agreed. --ZimZalaBim talk 21:14, 12 May 2025 (UTC)

- Does this work? Marquardtika (talk) 22:05, 12 May 2025 (UTC)
- Seems to work. --ZimZalaBim talk 02:19, 13 May 2025 (UTC)
