'Midwestern writing style'

[edit]

There is no such thing. — Preceding unsigned comment added by 82.68.94.86 (talk) 15:36, 30 May 2025 (UTC)Reply

Yes I was just about to make a talk section on here about this. The original quote from Dan Zak's article is:
"Roger Ebert taught the world to love the movies. Look how many movie lovers are publishing their gratitude in tribute, in personal terms. Look how some refer to “the movies,” with its definite article — his populist, intimate, Midwestern way of referring to his life’s passion."
It seems to me Zak is saying that "the movies" is a Midwestern thing to say, rather than Roger Ebert's writing style being 'Midwestern', whatever that may mean (and Dan Zak did not even say writing style in the cited article). There is also no Wiktionary entry on it. Kosinvita (talk) 00:46, 14 July 2026 (UTC)Reply

Result: Delisted. ~~ AirshipJungleman29 (talk) 15:17, 24 July 2025 (UTC)Reply

There are uncited statements, including lots of the awards/honours he received. At over 12,000 words, the article is considered WP:TOOBIG and detailed. There are lots of large sections that can be trimmed or moved to other articles, like "Critical style" and "Preferences". There's also lots of block quotes used in the article. Considering that the article is longer then the recommended length, I think this is a good place to better summarise the article per WP:SS. Z1720 (talk) 00:46, 24 June 2025 (UTC)Reply

New infobox image

[edit]
Proposed image

Usually after the subject dies, their infobox is replaced depicting the subject during their "prime"/younger years. Arguably, Ebert's prime years would be in the 1980s during his television hosting career. Recently a publicity photo of Ebert for Siskel and Ebert was uploaded. How do we feel about using this image as the infobox image? TDKR Chicago 101 (talk) 17:07, 10 August 2026 (UTC)Reply

My bad? There's quite a bit about Walter Ebert in Life Itself (it's a good one, you'll like it.)
