Press Hall

The Press Hall was designed in 1953. Perhaps they were working on it before and after that, I don't know, but building designs tend to be dated according to the official opening date. The Press Hall was designed by a team. My father, an architect, was working in the drawing office next door to the Press Hall team. He was proud (by association) of his colleagues' work, and talked about the design in later years, so I knew about the water tank from early on. I have no citation for this, but it's nice to know that there was a good atmosphere of pride in the work there, especially bearing in mind the spite and sniping that the architectural world was carrying later in the 60s, especially in London. Thanks for pointing this out. I've just added a citation (Rabbitts) that gives construction date as 1954-57, so I'll update the text to reflect that. Thank you, Cnbrb. Your construction date makes sense, and of course they would have taken some time to design the building before 1954. If you are interested in architects, it may help you to know that I have recently obtained part of the London section of the Pike Biographies, which includes London architects of the Edwardian era, who were also practising in the late C19. I have uploaded some of their details to Commons here. I also have the master index for all the Pike biographies, so if you are looking for an architect (or any other male professional or aristo) based in England and working between 1898 and 1912, I can let you know if they are in the index.
