Conflict of interest declaration
[edit]I am a great-grandson of the subject, Jean Chaleyé (1878–1960), and the creator of the French Wikipedia article about him. In accordance with the conflict of interest guideline, I am submitting this draft through Articles for Creation rather than creating it directly. Did you know nomination
[edit]
- ... that French flower painter Jean Chaleyé also designed lace that won a grand prix at the 1910 Brussels world's fair?
- ALT1: ... that a retrospective of painter and lace designer Jean Chaleyé was held in 1978 in the orangery of the Luxembourg Garden in Paris?

- Comment: First article and first DYK nomination (no QPQ required). Disclosure: I am a great-grandson of the subject; the conflict of interest is declared on the article talk page and on my user page. The article was accepted at AfC on 7 September 2026 by Netherzone.

Nice to meet you, - interesting article, diligently sourced, (all) French sources accepted AGF. Both hooks work for me. Before I can approve, I need two things: a sentence about his death, which could be at the end of the biography (before "Painting"), and a look at the long sentence in the lead about who holds his works and mentioned them, because the grammar isn't clear. Can you split it? Other wishes: the last of his publication has no BnF no., and it remains unclear what it is. The lead should be a summary of the whole article; it looks to me as if it holds information that is nowhere else in the article (such as the long sentence). Consider writing a short true lead (which needs no references) and then begin with "Life and career". Reference numbers are normally in ascending order. - Do you have this nomination watchlisted? I'll ping you, to make sure you notice. --Gerda Arendt (talk) 13:18, 22 September 2026 (UTC)
COI edit request: lace cartoons and the Combat de coqs pair at the Musée Crozatier
[edit]| This edit request by an editor with a conflict of interest has now been answered. Set |answered=no to reactivate the request if necessary. |
I am a great-grandson of the subject and have a declared conflict of interest, so I am not editing the article myself. I have just added the equivalent material to the French article (fr:Jean Chaleyé). Would an uninvolved editor consider adding the following to the Lace section? Any rewording is welcome.
Proposed text:
The Musée Crozatier holds, alongside his paintings, lace cartoons in his own hand and lace worked from his designs. The wash drawing Paysage (inv. 44.76.1), of about 1920, is described in the Joconde database as a lace cartoon whose corresponding lace is kept in the same museum. The cock-fight motif, which had won a grand prix at the 1910 Brussels International Exposition, is present in the collection in two forms: an oil on paper, signed and dated about 1910 (inv. 2002.60), and a bobbin-lace pelmet of 1910 whose museum record names Louis Oudin as the lacemaker and Chaleyé as the designer (inv. 1934.20).
Sources, all freely accessible:
- Joconde notice 000DE023325, Paysage, inv. 44.76.1: https://www.pop.culture.gouv.fr/notice/joconde/000DE023325 — fields Genèse: "carton de dentelle ; oeuvre en rapport"; Historique: "dentelle conservée au musée Crozatier". Open Licence (Etalab).
- Musée Crozatier online catalogue, Combat de coqs, tableau, inv. 2002.60: https://webmuseo.com/ws/musee-crozatier/app/collection/record/25153 — oil on paper, 88 × 123 cm, signed, c. 1910.
- Musée Crozatier online catalogue, Cantonnière, Combat de coqs, inv. 1934.20: https://webmuseo.com/ws/musee-crozatier/app/collection/record/9413 — the record lists two creators, "Oudin Louis (dentellier)" and "Chaleyé Jean (dessinateur)", both 1910.
The two museum records do not state that the painting is the cartoon for the pelmet, so the proposed wording deliberately stops short of saying so. Thank you. Jbaptiste.rolland (talk) 06:55, 18 September 2026 (UTC)
- Withdrawn and implemented directly on 18 September 2026 (Special:Diff/1375530854), with the wording and the three sources proposed above, rather than leaving the request pending; the same day I also carried over the other sourced additions made to the French article (Special:Diff/1375530804, Special:Diff/1375530808, Special:Diff/1375530813, Special:Diff/1375530850, Special:Diff/1375530857). Review and corrections are welcome. Jbaptiste.rolland (talk) 10:24, 18 September 2026 (UTC)
