Q1: Why can't I add "rapper," "musician," "songwriter," or anything similar to the lead section?
A1: As per MOS:ROLEBIO, we only include positions in the lead section of Wikipedia articles if they are notable. This is not the case. We do mention Ben Shapiro's appearance in a rap music video in the article, however, we don't add this to the lead. Please see this discussion for more details. |

Occupation
[edit]Even after the semi protection template that @EvergreenFir instated on this page, we still are getting deconstructive edits in regard to ‘Rapper’ being added to occupation. I’m wondering if invisible comments would help in this matter. What are everyone’s thoughts? @Cannolis Wanted to ping you as well in this discussion! Elvisisalive95 (talk) 14:27, 29 January 2024 (UTC)
- Can't hurt, though probably wouldn't help either, in my experience the kind of people that would add this sort of thing won't read those comments. The number of confirmed users that would(like the person you had to revert) is relatively small though, you could also wait and see if you get more of these edits before acting. Cannolis (talk) 20:52, 29 January 2024 (UTC)
- Roger that. Sounds like a plan, thank you very much. Elvisisalive95 (talk) 21:10, 29 January 2024 (UTC)
- My thoughts roughly match Cannolis'. In case it ever helps, I oppose adding "rapper" to the lead and any rapper categories to the article, per WP:BALANCE, WP:ROLEBIO, and WP:CATDEFINING, among other reasons. Firefangledfeathers (talk / contribs) 21:20, 29 January 2024 (UTC)
Comment - His rapping "career" is not even established as notable enough to include. A youtube link is insufficient. We need reliable secondary sources covering this song to even include it. EvergreenFir (talk) 23:59, 29 January 2024 (UTC)
- I just added a reliable secondary source per Wikipedia:RSPSS to your revert . I too don’t believe by any means it merits being included as a career at all. That’s why I originally just wrote a simple sentence on the page stating the fact that it happened, which i believe should be included on this page in the capacity it is now. Elvisisalive95 (talk) 00:16, 30 January 2024 (UTC)
- A piece from one of the blogs at The Hill, which are not as reliable as the news articles from the site. I'm not sure that's enough to demonstrate that the content is notable (with a lowercase n, not talking about WP:N). Firefangledfeathers (talk / contribs) 00:20, 30 January 2024 (UTC)
- I simply grabbed from one of the approved sources per Wikipedia:RSPSS as stated above. Nonetheless I truly appreciate your input, value your opinion & went ahead and added another source Here. Elvisisalive95 (talk) 01:00, 30 January 2024 (UTC)

"Film Director" in lead?
[edit]I believe the description of Shapiro as a director is inaccurate. The Daily Wire has started putting out films but Shapiro has only ever been listed as producer and never director. Film is not mentioned anywhere in the article text. Initial editor could've mixed him up with the other Ben Shapiro.
I would've just made a straight removal request but since this page has seen a bit of discussion about the occupations in the lead I figured I'd bring it up here first. Schroering1 (talk) 22:01, 27 June 2026 (UTC)
- I've changed it to "producer" as an interim measure but neither director nor producer are in the body so maybe it should be removed entirely? DanielRigal (talk) 22:14, 27 June 2026 (UTC)
- I've removed "movie producer" and "attorney" since Shapiro is not primarily know for those based on the article body. "Producer" also doesn't appear in the body at all, and while he has worked as a lawyer at one point, it's unclear whether he still has a license. And even if still had one, he is not primarily know as an attorney. Cortador (talk) 09:08, 19 July 2026 (UTC)
- I would personally add "author" owing to his large, extensive, and notable bibliography --- he indeed has a whole section of the body dedicated to him as an author. Schroering1 (talk) 19:40, 24 July 2026 (UTC)
- Shapiro only has two books notable enough to currently have their own article, and isn't regularly described as an author compared to being described as a commentator and host. Lack of coverage of his books shows that his bibliography is not, in fact, particularly notable. Cortador (talk) 10:53, 4 August 2026 (UTC)

[edit]Can this paragraph be readded at the bottom of the "Personal life" section in the Ben Shapiro article? His first cousin, the actress Mara Wilson, is famous enough to warrant a more detailed mention, including their estrangement due to their differing political views.
« He is a cousin of actress Mara Wilson.[1][2] Wilson has disavowed Shapiro due to his conservative views and her left-wing views,[3] and the two have no contact with each other.[4] »

- These sources aren't good enough. Cracked is generally unreliable, Jewish Currents is fine in general but in this case, it's an interview i.e. just Wilson's opinion, Soundcloud is a primary source, and KTTH is a tabloid. Cortador (talk) 07:22, 17 September 2026 (UTC)
