Discussion on redirect

[edit]

Was there ever a discussion on this redirect e. g. to which article this should redirect? "Based" can also be an internet slang. Koreanovsky (talk) 16:33, 29 December 2023 (UTC)Reply

Doesn't seem like there's been any discussion, might be worth taking to WP:RFD, although I suspect that given that it's both a slang term and a common vernacular word, a soft redirect to the wiktionary entry may be most appropriate. signed, Rosguill talk 16:36, 29 December 2023 (UTC)Reply
As much as I understood this redirect, it redirects to the origin of the word? Koreanovsky (talk) 12:40, 31 December 2023 (UTC)Reply
Yeah, but that isn't necessarily most useful to our readers, not least because Lil B isn't exactly written to give the etymology of "based" (nor should it be, most likely), and we don't actually know that readers are looking for the slang term when they type this word. signed, Rosguill talk 13:55, 31 December 2023 (UTC)Reply
Sooo... Do you think it might help if we create e.g. a disambiguation? :-) Koreanovsky (talk) 20:53, 31 December 2023 (UTC)Reply
I still think that a wiktionary redirect is a better solution--disambiguation would be appropriate if we had multiple different articles called Based here on English Wikipedia, but that's not the case. signed, Rosguill talk 20:55, 31 December 2023 (UTC)Reply
It's been a while... Yea, I agree. Koreanovsky (talk) 17:17, 14 April 2024 (UTC)Reply
Based has enough coverage as a slang term by newspapers like the New York Times to warrant its own page Aradicus77 (talk) 18:01, 28 March 2026 (UTC)Reply

Anachronistic

[edit]

Zhang Zongchang being called "basest" in 1927 is an anachronistic, its not the same usage of the term as when Lil B used it or when it was coinced during the crack epidemic so I'm not sure if it should be in origins, there needs to be discretion for it. Aradicus (talk) 02:59, 9 July 2026 (UTC)Reply
