Lead Paragraph

[edit]

Currently, the opening paragraph contains specific goal counts. These numbers require constant updates. They are not in Messi or Ronaldo's. The stats are already tracked in the Infobox, so having them embedded directly in the lead disrupts the flow of the introductory summary and creates an unnecessary maintenance burden.

Current Text:

"Regarded as one of the best strikers of his generation, he is Tottenham Hotspur's all-time top goalscorer (280), England's all-time top goalscorer (81), and the highest-scoring English player in the UEFA Champions League (54). He is also the Premier League's second-highest all-time goalscorer (213) and the seventh highest goalscorer for Bayern Munich (146).[2]"

Proposed Text:

"Regarded as one of the best strikers of his generation, he is the all-time top goalscorer for both Tottenham Hotspur and the England national team, as well as the highest-scoring English player in UEFA Champions League history. He also ranks as the Premier League's second-highest all-time goalscorer."

  • (Note: I suggest removing the Bayern Munich ranking from the lead sentence. Being the "seventh-highest" is less historically significant for an introductory summary than his absolute all-time records. It should absolutely remain in the body/infobox, perhaps alongside a note about how rapidly he has scored there).

Thoughts? Strawberrybattles (talk) 21:07, 22 June 2026 (UTC)Reply

@Strawberrybattles This seems like a sensible idea imo Michaeldble (talk) 03:37, 23 June 2026 (UTC)Reply

Infobox image

[edit]

Since it seems to be getting changed every few days, maybe we can discuss which image is better. Discussion should have taken place before the first change, but anyway…

I prefer the image that was in place yesterday, not least because he is in the England kit, not a training top. And the statement that he is turned sideways was a little strange; he isn’t looking at the camera in either that photo or the one it was changed to today. Seasider53 (talk) 14:55, 1 July 2026 (UTC)Reply

I know I took these photos but do think this one both shows him in the England kit vs a training top and is facing forward: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/File:Harry_Kane_England_v_Ghana_23_June_2026-219_(cropped).jpg Berlination (talk) 15:50, 1 July 2026 (UTC)Reply
I think us three are in agreement here; the previous one linked above in the England top is the best one and he’s not turned to the side as stated before. I think it’s safe to restore based off that. ser! (chat to me - see my edits) 15:55, 1 July 2026 (UTC)Reply

Infobox image (1)

[edit]

The previous discussion, which had seen the participation of only three users, had settled on the latter image being the infobox image. However, I believe that the former is the far more superior image, since he is facing the camera, and has a proper facial expression. Even if he isn't in full gear, it is a better image. YeedyYaada (talk) 06:01, 7 July 2026 (UTC)Reply

You didn’t take part in the discussion, and it’s bad form to request another discussion because you didn’t like the outcome. Seasider53 (talk) 08:14, 7 July 2026 (UTC)Reply
No I'm not saying that I didn't "like" the outcome, I'm simply suggesting the replacement of the picture with a superior one. YeedyYaada (talk) 07:12, 8 July 2026 (UTC)Reply
IMO second photo is better. The first photo has him furrowing his brows. The second photo is a more restful expression and slight smile. In both photos his face is facing the camera; whether his body is is less relevant, and not even necessarily ideal for a "portrait". ~SuperHamster Talk Contribs 23:44, 21 July 2026 (UTC)Reply

Lead paragraph

[edit]

The lead paragraph has been changed again to make it convoluted. Please see my comment of 22nd June. It is not contingent with other leading footballers. Strawberrybattles (talk) 12:51, 19 July 2026 (UTC)Reply
