Religious treatment of women in Gaza

[edit]

I don't understand why it's comparing them to Jews except to assume that the user who edited it that way was trying to advance a view. Parrot in search of knowledge (talk) 07:15, 14 July 2026 (UTC)Reply

See WP:EDITXY for how to write an edit request. Sean.hoyland (talk) 07:59, 14 July 2026 (UTC)Reply
Parrot is criticizing the article's text, they are not making a request. Dimadick (talk) 10:16, 14 July 2026 (UTC)Reply
I know. They can only make a request, and it must follow WP:EDITXY. Sean.hoyland (talk) 10:40, 14 July 2026 (UTC)Reply

Please add Antisemitism to the ideology field in the infobox:

eraser Undone I've reverted this. The issue is whether Antisemitism should appear - unqualified - in the infobox as a defining ideology, which is contested in the RS already cited in the article. For example: as we cite in the article, Esther Webman concluded that "anti-Semitism is not the main tenet of Hamas ideology", () and the article states that the 2017 charter removed the antisemitic language. That makes this a contested characterization, not a settled RS consensus.
An infobox label removes that necessary qualification. Per MOS:INFOBOX, WP:NPOV, WP:DUE and WP:ONUS, the existing attributed treatment in the body is preferable, absent consensus for the stronger unqualified label.
The newly added ICT citation is also not a good source. It is a 2007 piece published as a "Commentary" by an Israeli counter-terrorism think tank whose own stated mission includes facilitating international cooperation in the "global struggle against terrorism", and the piece itself is plainly argumentative in tone.
There is an even more basic WP:V problem with the other citation. {{sfn|Levitt|2008|p=118}} refers to Matthew Levitt's Negotiating Under Fire, but p. 118 does not discuss antisemitism or Hamas's ideology at all, and I can’t find it elsewhere in the book either. So that citation simply does not support the infobox claim.
Also, and significantly, both sources predate Hamas's 2017 charter. Smallangryplanet (talk) 17:00, 12 August 2026 (UTC)Reply
There was a technical confusion with sfn template reference. I meant to cite Matthew Levitt's book, Hamas: Politics, Charity, and Terrorism in the Service of Jihad (Yale University Press, p. 118), not Negotiating Under Fire. Картель (talk) 13:35, 13 August 2026 (UTC)Reply
This reference also pre-dates the 2017 charter, so it and it alone is certainly not enough to list anti-Semitism as a key Hamas ideology in 2026. Per MOS:IBP: If information cannot be simply stated in an infobox without explanation or qualification, it probably doesn't belong in the infobox. Smallangryplanet (talk) 14:59, 13 August 2026 (UTC)Reply
I understand. Thanks for the clarification Картель (talk) 15:23, 13 August 2026 (UTC)Reply
Sure thing! Thanks for contributing. Smallangryplanet (talk) 16:26, 13 August 2026 (UTC)Reply

Hamas and antisemitism

Just want to see what other editors think of this edit. I think it distorts the meaning of the source slightly. BobFromBrockley (talk) 18:06, 29 August 2026 (UTC)Reply

This was a revert of this change. As I explained in the edit summary, my problem is WP:DUE weight. Your edit expanded and emphasised Naim's quote from an opinion piece in the Guardian. The paragraph already contains a lengthy quote of Ahmed Yasin sourced to AJA. The sources do not support the weight these quotes have in the section now.
If you think that the long-standing version distorts the meaning of the source, let's correct it without giving it undue weight. Alaexis¿question? 21:13, 29 August 2026 (UTC)Reply
Ok, how about this version which is far more concise? BobFromBrockley (talk) 13:45, 30 August 2026 (UTC)Reply
Much better, thanks for improving it. Alaexis¿question? 16:25, 30 August 2026 (UTC)Reply

Description of suggested change: Change of reference "32 Khalidi, Rashid (2020). The Hundred Years' War on Palestine. Metropolitan Books. p. 223. ISBN 978-1-627-79855-6" about context of "Hamas was initially discreetly supported by Israel as a counter-balance to the secular PLO". I recently found an online pdf version of this exact same book of same ISBN. The correct page number should be p. 176. Also, is there a way to add archive for this pdf book. https://genocideproject.org/wp-content/uploads/2025/04/The-Hundred-Years-War-on-Palestine-A-History-of-Settler-Colonialism.pdf

Not done: That PDF is the trade paperback edition published in 2022 and it actually has a different ISBN (978-1-250-78765-1). The original citation is to the hardcover edition, which I assume accounts for the different page number. Day Creature (talk) 21:23, 2 October 2026 (UTC)Reply
Sorry my bad.
But should the 2022 trade paperback edition 978-1-250-78765-1 p. 176 that can be been read online still be archived and added into References, while keeping the original hardcover edition 978-1-627-79855-6 p.223 on References?
Or can archive the version below, that is the digital version with E-isbn 9781627798549, but the corresponding page number is unknown because the digital version don't have a page number, but it is on p. 190 of the pdf.
