| 1943 - Curley Williams & his Georgia Peach Pickers debuted on the Grand Ole Opry. 1952 - Gladys Knight & the Pips were formed during Bubba Knight's 10th birthday party. Gladys was only eight at the time. 1954 - Elvis Presley made his first and only appearance at the Grand Ole Opry. 1959 - WCBS radio in New York banned Bobby Darin's Mack the Knife after two teenagers are stabbed. 1964 - The Animals performed live for the first time in the U.S. at the Paramount Theater in Brooklyn. 1965 - The Who had their van stolen with all their equipment. It was later recovered. 1968 - The Beatles made promotional videos for Hey Jude and Revolution at Twickenham Film Studios. 1968 - The Rolling Stones' single Street Fighting Man is banned in Chicago during the Democratic National Convention. 1972 - A concession worker was killed in Texas at a Wishbone Ash concert because he wouldn't give a concert goer a free sandwich. 1986 - Gregg Allman was arrested for DUI.
