This page holds approved nominations that are waiting to appear in the "Did you know" section on the Main Page. Following DYK approval, nominations are processed and moved into a Prep area, and from there, prep sets are promoted to a queue, and then to the main page.

Backlogged?

This page is often backlogged. As long as your submission is still on the page, it will stay there until someone promotes it to a preparation area. To alleviate this problem, we sometimes change hooks twice per day (every 12 hours) instead of once per day (every 24 hours); see WP:DYKROTATE for details.

Where is my hook?

If you can't find the nomination you submitted to the nominations page, and it also isn't on this page, in most cases it means your article has been approved and is either in one of the prep areas, has been promoted from prep to a queue, or is on the main page.

If the nominated hook is in none of those places, then the nomination has probably been rejected. Such a rejection usually only occurs if it was at least a couple of weeks old and had unresolved issues for which any discussion had gone stale. If you think your nomination was unfairly rejected, you can query this on the DYK discussion page, but as a general rule such nominations will only be restored in exceptional circumstances.

How to promote an accepted hook

  • See Wikipedia:Did you know/Preparation areas for full instructions.
  • In one window, open the DYK nomination subpage of the hook you would like to promote.
  • In another window, open the prep set you intend to add the hook to.
  • In the prep set...
    • Paste the hook into the hook area (be sure to not paste in that that)
    • Paste the credit information ({{DYKmake}} and/or {{DYKnom}}) into the credits area.
    • Add an edit summary, e.g., "Promoted [[Jane Fonda]]", preview, and save
  • Back on DYK nomination page...
    • change {{DYKsubpage to {{subst:DYKsubpage
    • change |passed= to |passed=yes
    • Add an edit summary, e.g., "Promoted original hook to Prep 3", preview, and save

How to remove a hook from the prep areas or queue

  • Edit the prep area or queue where the hook is and remove the hook and the credits associated with it.
  • Go to the hook's nomination subpage (there should have been a link to it in the credits section).
    • View the edit history for that page
    • Go back to the last version before the edit where the hook was promoted, and revert to that version to make the nomination active again.
    • Add a new icon on the nomination subpage to cancel the previous tick and leave a comment after it explaining that the hook was removed from the prep area or queue, and why, so that later reviewers are aware of this issue.
  • Add a transclusion of the template back to the nominations page so that reviewers can see it. It goes under the date that it was first created/expanded/listed as a GA. You may need to add back the day header for that date if it had been removed from the nominations page.
  • If you removed the hook from a queue, it is best to either replace it with another hook from one of the prep areas, or to leave a message at WT:DYK asking someone else to do so.

Note: Articles intended to be held for special occasion dates should be nominated within seven days of creation, start of expansion, or promotion to Good Article status. The nomination should be made between at least one week prior to the occasion date, to allow time for reviews and promotions through the prep and queue sets, but not more than two months in advance. The proposed occasion must be deemed sufficiently special by reviewers. The timeline limitations, including the two month maximum, may be waived by consensus, if a request is made at WT:DYK, but requests are not always successful. Note for promoters: please be sure to add an "invisible" comment after a hook when you've placed it in prep, noting that it's a special occasion hook and including the date it is supposed to run. This should keep the hook from being moved after promotion, as sometimes happens to hooks when a queue needs a slot filled or a prep set needs to be made more balanced by swapping hooks between preps.

"It is not known by whom the photo was taken" > The Newsis article hints that the author is 조선영화사 (조선영화사 촬영팀과 사진기자는 이 장면을 역사의 기록으로 남겼다). "The photo depicts a crowd of people, presumably Koreans, celebrating" > The Chosun Ilbo article says that they are independence activists.       • Long enough, expanded 5X recently enough. Everything is cited, although it would be better if some citations which cover multiple sentences within a paragraph were cited to each individual sentence or to the entire paragraph (where one source covers an entire paragraph), but I was able to figure it out. Earwig tool showed no copyvios (the percentages are high with some sources because of the long full title of the book). Both hooks are sourced and compliant. Personally I prefer ALT1 but if the main hook is used I would remove the word "coincidently" - that word weakens (and unnecessarily lengthens) the hook, and the coincidence is inherent in the statement itself. Is there a less promotional hook in the article? I also note an NPOV issue with No photos are sent to Nintendo's servers, which is actually a claim made by Nintendo, not something that should be stated in wikivoice. For the hook, I personally feel like the hook is neutral enough; all it does is present the game’s premise (I tried to word it as generic as possible). Another hook I came up with is contrasting the game to the WarioWare series, but I don’t think a general reader would understand that franchise, which made me write the above hook. Also, I included the line No photos are sent to Nintendo's servers because it is mentioned in many sources that I found for it to be included. The soon to be written reception section for the game should hopefully balance out the neutrality when the reviews start coming in. EvanTech10 (talk) 02:12, 28 May 2026 (UTC)Reply

(This source is inconclusive per WP:VG/S, couldn't find the rest). I would recommend filling out the reception section with them. I agree with User:Dclemens1971 that the wording of the original hook proposal feels a bit promotional. Do you have any ideas from the (hopefully) newly-incorporated content in the reception section. We were interested in the Images search rather than the regular website search. In that case, I think the hook overstates the case quite a bit. It also doesn't specify whether "Nero" was searched or "Nero Claudius" (I am guessing the latter, since that's the term used.) If true, then the hook's claim that "Nero" as a Fate character was more popular is also overstated. Personally, I don't think the hooks are supported by the source, and if you wanted to use this source you'd need to be more specific (in ways that would reduce the hookiness), but I'll leave it for another promoter to make the judgment call. What if the first result is for Emperor Nero and it gets 5x the search results of results 11-50 that are about the Fate character? To use this definition of popular, I think you'd need to attribute and qualify the results. It also needs to be in the past tense because the results were obtained at a specific point in time. For example, ALT0e: ... that a gender-swapped fictional version of the Roman emperor Nero appeared more frequently in online image searches than the historical figure? is probably accurate, or ALT0f: ... that researchers said a gender-swapped fictional version of the Roman emperor Nero was more popular than the historical figure based on image searches?                       • Piotrus Past tense is necessary because even though you duplicated the result recently, the researchers' work was done at a specific point in time. And as for attribution, the researchers acknowledge that the way online search works, people get different results. They tried to come up with the most neutral approach but even that would have been specific to Michigan. Search technology doesn't allow a universal claim of popularity based on it, and so I believe attribution is required. That said, I haven't pulled any approval, and a promoter can promote whatever approved hook they like. I just think earlier ones will end up at ERRORS or have a problem when queued. Given the short time remaining until DYKTIMEOUT, A.Cython, would you be able to give a tick to ALT0e and ALT0f so that promoters will be able to choose those if they wish? As for the Welt writer's statement of "best", that would need to be appropriately attributed. The hook needs to be rewritten as ALT1: ... that Die Welt said Walter Hagen-Groll made the Deutsche Oper Berlin chorus the world's best? I also think that's an improvement in hookiness.                       Bneu2013 I assume the structure is based on other articles on Category:LGBTQ rights in Brazil by state or district, some of which have {{Empty section}} (eg. LGBTQ rights in Piauí) or {{Expand section}} (eg. LGBTQ rights in Acre). While for previous centuries, I couldn't find anything specific looking at LGBTQ history in Brazil. The article focuses on the juridical rights (mostly statutory laws or legislation), I can see why the gaps would stand unless it becomes a WP:BCA, and changing scope would warrant a title change as well. If a video game is based on a property, isn't it kind of expected for a character from the original to also appear in that video game? I'm feeling it might be more interesting for fans of the franchise than the general public. From the GameSpot article, the fact that the game was accidentally revealed on Steam prior to its announcement could be of some interest (though it's not currently in the article), i.e. ALT4: ... that Saw: Genesis was announced hours before it was intended to be?, or something like that.                         • The article is new enough and adequately sourced, with ALT4 (the only hook fact currently under consideration) cited inline and verified in the source (GameSpot is no longer treated as a green source for various reasons, but for this particular case I don't see why it is unreliable). A QPQ has been done. The issue is that ALT4 is not directly stated in the article: the article says that the game appeared on Steam before Summer Game Fest, but not the specific "premature reveal" wording. ALT4a (I've renumbered it as such) is closer to the source and article, but loses the hookiness because it is no longer clear from the wording that it was a premature reveal. Snippet gives me "アル・カラルの遺産』道原かつみ徳間書店多分、女性で SF マンガを書く人の中では一番の本格派(佐藤史生は頭抜けている)。本書は異星人とのコンタクトを扱ったものだが、連載されていた雑誌の廃刊で、ほとんどこれからという時に終わってしまった。今連載" which translates as ""The Legacy of Al-Khalal" by Katsumi Michihara, Tokuma Shoten. Probably the most serious among female SF manga writers (Fumio Sato is head and shoulders above the others). This book deals with contact with extraterrestrials, but it ended just when it was getting interesting due to the discontinuation of the magazine in which it was serialized.". It seems like a review(?) of the light novel that the OVA is based on. But I don't think this is accessible outside of a hard copy in a Japanese library, and I don't have access to them.                                     It probably wouldn't be hard to carve out a small legion of sources from each sub-article in each section (each mini-lede in the Outline is basically just a summation of that sub-list contents). I was going to (later) rewrite them all past ANL to specific catered sentences for each domain, so if an article shows up in 2-3 sections, it would have a unique source/sentence for each on that specific context... but that's a, uh, year long project probably to do clean. I can "hot drop" in a lot if needed quick, just not ultra tidy/matching formats and as organized as I prefer. What do you think? No hurry of course!

                                    An Outline article is a kind of list, and lists are permitted at DYK. WP:DYKLEN: Stand-alone lists are allowed, but only the prose part of article counts towards the 1500 character requirement. I checked and found that at least one Outline has run on DYK: Outline of canoeing and kayaking on 20 November 2010. I would not have rated it as eligible, as it falls slightly short of the 1,500 word minimum. I emphasis that the {{anl}} templates are fine; what is required is referencing of the introductory text of each section, which is the only part that counts towards the 1,500 word requirement.                                         • With ALT1 there's no issue with the placement of the citation. Per WP:DYKCITE, it just needs to be by the end of the paragraph at the earliest, which is the case.
                                        • ALT2 I agree is not suitable; however, I'd phrase why it isn't from a different perspective. I've been advised by other reviewers that hooks on artistic/literally works which contain long quotes from critical reviews generally do not do well as far as views go which we could say speaks to WP:DYKINT.
                                        • ALT3, I agree that the nominator should find different wording/phrasing than using the term "Sound-world", as I had to look that up to find out what it means. Again a WP:DYKINT issue.
                                        • You didn't state anything about ALT0, where I do see an issue. The wording from the source which supports the hook is Madara no Hana (Flower of Madara) and Kurai Tobira (The Dark Gate)—blend Western orchestral form with Japanese imagery, marking the birth of his East-West musical synthesis. This hook is close paraphrasing to the source. When we review we need to make sure that not only are there no copyvio issues with the article itself, but that the proposed hooks are not close in their paraphrasing. I would suggest ALT0 needs work.

The article now states that, in 1957, Mena Gurjari was performed at Rashtrapati Bhavan during the Republic Day celebrations in Delhi (supported by Riddhi ane Ronak) and that it was staged to entertain delegates attending a UNESCO conference (supported by Rasik-Bharati: Prof. R. C. Parikh Commemoration Volume, Sanskrit Sahitya Akademi, 2005).

                                          • I think we should try to work with the nominator here as a relatively new contributor to DYK, although I have to agree with Finnfrog that these hooks are pretty dull. I do think there's some potential to ALT4, perhaps building on the fact from the source that the move to list it on the municipal registry (not the Canadian Registry, which is distinct; the house had been on the federal registry since 2005) came after the owner's plans to demolish it, although "replace it with a driveway" leaves out the important context that the driveway is for a six-storey apartment building, not just being put in for the pleasure of knocking down old houses.                                               • The original article states that the Killam house was added to the Candian registry in 2005 but not in the municipal registry. The federal says it's an example of "well-preserved Queen Anne architecture."
                                              • The official register states that the Killam house was built in circa 1898 - 1899, apparently built for A. E. Killam himself, but I don't know what records they have for that that say it was originally built for him. Anyways, it has been said to be accurately restored by its long-term current owners. It's architectural style from Queen Anne's architecture

                                          That's legitimately it for the Killam House, if there's something interesting here, I guess it's fine. When you don't, it's fine as well. I ask because you've used it eight times in the article, and if you think so you should probably replace those citations. I would find it not dubious; I expect it is based on stories he told about himself in addition to the writer's personal knowledge of Killam. If you are willing to reconsider your assessment of it as a "dubious" source, I would suggest ALT5: ... that from age 14 to 22, Amasa E. It is a key issue as women worked just as hard as missionaries but were they were unpaid assistants seen as happy to serve in the shadows. If Mamie had lived she might have gone on to write a biography of her husband using her letters as a source... and never heard of again. I have added additional copyright tags. As I understand it copyright is extended for 70 years after the creators death. No known creator = no known death = no copyright extension. e.g. stuff created by companies only gets 70 years after publication. I'm hoping that will appear around 31 July Requested at DYK talk. I think competitive eating teaching him discipline isn't too interesting, I think that many other jobs could plausibly teach discipline too. Competitive eating affecting his social life sounds surprising enough on a first listen.
