I created a number of maps using QGIS using some reliable sources from the internet, double checking them with available academic / hard-copies, and tracing them. In some cases using Gatehouse Gazetteer as a data source.
- Discussion
As you can see from the maps, they're of a varied standard - decent enough to show the detail but I would be happier if they could be brought to standard that you guys create - this can either be done by pointing out what styling / formatting you use, or I can send you the QGZ file with all the shape files and other data files.
Thanks a bunch,
Qatar CMC constituencies and municipalities
Hello everyone.
How could I go about turning these 29 disparate images of the constituencies of Qatar's Central Municipal Council into a single map that could be used on Wikipedia? Ideally, I would also like to have a map overlaying the borders of these constituencies with the borders of the municipalities, to visualize the mismatch mentioned here. I couldn't find a single map of all the constituencies anywhere.
Many thanks, and good tidings, غوّاص العلم (Ghawwas) (talk) 12:33, 9 August 2026 (UTC)
- @غوّاص العلم: They look like satellite images with overlaid text and lines. I don't think there's an easy way to convert it to map data except by tracing over the features.
- You could rescale and translate the images to make a photocomposite, though unless it's an equirectangular or similar projection, there will likely be issues registering the images due to map projection.
- It might be better to just get an SVG snapshot off OpenStreetMap. cmɢʟee τaʟκ (please add

- This PNG has very small text. Would it be possible to recreate it as an SVG?
- Instead of a separate legend, it would also be clearer to label the countries and capitals on the map itself.

- Could someone translate the maps? Also, there are some mistakes, Quneitra Governorate have been formed in 1964, not 1965. And the Tartus Governorate have been formed in 1966 (not 1972). And the Damascus Governorate (intially called Damascus city governorate) have been formed in 1972, then renamed in 1986, while a previous Damascus Governorate became the Rif Dimashq Governorate.
