Comment: If I understand the licensing information correctly, the screenshot would not be appropriate on the grounds that it depicts a "beta release product." I think you'd need to replace the general Microsoft license with a fair-use license as long at the screenshot is vital to understanding the topic, and not merely used for decoration. —JmaJeremy•Ƭalk•Cont 06:24, 3 August 2012 (UTC)reply

Comment: After consulting at Wikipedia:Media_copyright_questions#Microsoft_beta_software I believe the file is fair-use. It must be deleted once a retail version of the software is available. —JmaJeremy•Ƭalk•Cont 19:49, 3 August 2012 (UTC)reply

Comment: I'm 99.9% sure this is not in the "public domain." Miramar High School would have copyright claims on it. You could probably claim fair use, but in that case you'd need to provide a specific article where the image will be used and give a fair use rationale. —JmaJeremy•Ƭalk•Cont 19:57, 3 August 2012 (UTC)reply

Six new Norwegian road signs

Description: Five new Norwegian road signs from 2012. Also an older missing sign.

URL: Vegvesen.no

Use the link named - Zip-fil med nye skilt fra 01.01.12 png-format near the bottom.

The one older sign: Lovdata

Search for 725 Avstandsskilt, and the image should be next to that. The article is a document from Norwegian law. It does not explicitly state that the images are for free use, but these are examples in accordance with the NPRA. The NPRA just forgot to include a proper graphic of this example in their archives. I strongly doubt there will be any issues in uploading this under the same rationale as the other signs (they're all public domain).

han shot first?

This upload request has been accepted. Please do not modify it.

This request for upload has been reviewed. The reviewer comments appear below the submission text.

Description: This image is an animated version of the "han shot first" scene, it is low resolution slow motion picture of han and greedo firing, then greedo exploding.

URL: http://s216.photobucket.com/albums/cc101/75UR15/?action=view&current=slowmo1.gif

License: The movie from which this was captured was Star Wars: A New Hope (originally just Star Wars) copyright LucasFilms. Screenshot used to illustrate one of the most significant changes to the Star Wars film series. This illustration is needed to provide quick accessible reference to the change in question. There are no free alternatives. Use of a reduced quality, insubstantial portion of scene (low resolution screenshots) does not limit copyright holder's rights.

Comment: I'm assuming this is your Photobucket account (matching username). Did you create the derivative work? If so, what license are you releasing it under? As I understand copyright rules, the image will need two licenses: one for the work itself, and one for the original work that it's derived from. —JmaJeremy•Ƭalk•Cont 23:20, 10 August 2012 (UTC)reply

I don't know how to reply to this properly (with note tags /w my name) but yes the account is mine, I made the derivative work, if any copyright from me is needed (I don't feel I own any) I "release" it under full fair use (creative commons or whatever it is called, so that it can be used in anyway that does not violate the rights of the original copyright holder). In other words, I release any right I have to restrict its use. (hey add some tildes and get a signature, cool :) ) 75ur15 (talk) 04:43, 11 August 2012 (UTC)reply

Great, just need one more thing from you, regarding the copyrighted work:

The current logo is a highly artifacted jpeg which doesnt look very good.

Comment: Hi, Apigrowmax. It looks like that file is hosted on Wikimedia Commons with a license claiming that it is public domain on the basis of it consisting only of simple shapes. I'm not quite sure it really holds up by Commons standards, especially since it's accompanied by a trademark tag. In any case, I wouldn't be comfortable uploading a new version as I'm unsure of its copyright status. It sounds like you have close ties to the company in question, so if you have the authority to license it under a free license (e.g. {{cc-by-sa}}), feel free to upload it to Commons yourself using the upload form at Commons:Special:UploadWizard. If it can't be released under a free license, then I'd be happy to upload it here on Wikipedia as a fair-use company logo, but it might get deleted on Commons. —JmaJeremy ✆✎ 19:43, 13 August 2012 (UTC)reply

Comment: Thanks Jmajeremy. The logo is copyright and a trademark of our company. I had originally wanted to upload it as fair use company logo, but wiki wouldn't allow me to upload until I made 10 edits, which isn't something I'm going to have time to do right away. I do work for Americas Petrogas and created this vector based version of the logo. Often times when people are putting things together and need our logo they just grab whatever pops up first in a google image search and that is usually what is on the wiki for API. So my intention here is to give people a better company logo to use. Uploading it as a fair-use company logo is exactly what I would like to be done with it. — Preceding unsigned comment added by Apigrowmax (talk • contribs) 20:02, 13 August 2012 (UTC) reply

I really don't see the difference between the current image and the one you linked to, other than the resolution. One of the rules of fair-use images is that it must only be large enough so that it adequately represents what the logo is supposed to look like. If you want to upload a larger version then you would need to agree to send written permission to Wikimedia Commons using this e-mail template. If you agree, I'll upload it to Commons, then you can send the e-mail. —JmaJeremy ✆✎ 22:00, 13 August 2012 (UTC)reply

Gonna have to redo it then, I was pretty sure the pdf would have saved as a vector since it was all designed in illustrator.... What I have done now is to scale the image so it appears smaller, and saved it as a svg so that it will never lose resolution since its a scalable vector graphic. Please let me know if this will work :] — Preceding unsigned comment added by Apigrowmax (talk • contribs) 23:07, 13 August 2012‎

Yes, an SVG would be good. As long as the vector graphic is scaled down when used on Wikipedia it will be fine. I'll upload it to Wikipedia, then flag the ones on Commons for deletion. —JmaJeremy ✆✎ 23:59, 13 August 2012 (UTC)reply

Article To Be Used On/Reason For Upload: Adobe Audition. Again, the screenshot on the infobox needs to be in PNG and not in JPEG for high quality usage. Also, I saw its image license is I prove is really a mistake that is uploaded to Commons, although it's a copyrighted screenshot, it is licensed by CC BY-SA 3.0.

{{not done}} If the software isn't changing, there is no need to update the image because a new operating system is out. In fact, if at all possible, screenshots of software should be on a freely licensed OS. Also, non-free images are not supposed to be of bad quality, but making them of high quality is not a priority. Sven Manguard Wha? 23:49, 21 August 2012 (UTC)reply

I will either upload this tomorrow or somebody else; the image in that article is a) old and b) a copyright violation uploaded at Commons. mabdul 23:44, 22 August 2012 (UTC)reply

I did check the image, although I missed that it was on Commons. It's gone from there now. My position is that if the software being screenshotted didn't change (requester did not indicate that it was a new edition of Adobe Audition) there is no reason to update the image. The only thing that would change between an update from Windows 7 to Windows 8 is the border. When that's the case, I still maintain that there's no reason to update. THE PLAYER IS EXPECTED TO SHOOT ON THE YELLOW BALL WITHOUT MISSING TARGET. N SHORTS WILL BE MADE FROM A CIRCULAR SHOOTING POINT ON A YELLOW BALL PLACED ON M RESPECTIVE RECTANGULAR POINT. THERE IS A LINE ON WHICH THE RECEIVING POINTS ARE ARRANGED, FOWL DECISION IS TAKEN BASED ON THE LINE, A SHOT THAT PASSES THE LINE, HIT THE CUSHION, REBOUNCE AND HIT OTHER BALLS IS NOT A FOWL…

THE GREEN AREA IS THE PLAYING AREA WHILE THE RED AREA IS THE SPACE AROUND THE PLAYING AREA. TO MEET STANDARD THE LENGTH OF THE GREEN AREA MUST NOT BE LESS THAN 15FT (4.5 METERS) AND THE WIDTH MUST NOT BE LESS THAN 6FT (1.8 METERS) URL:

Article To Be Used On/Reason For Upload: Key Realty School LLC/The image will be placed in the infobox at the top of the article discussing Key Realty School, a subject of public interest. The significance of the logo is to help the reader identify the organization, assure the readers that they have reached the right article containing critical commentary about the organization, and illustrate the organization's intended branding message in a way that words alone could not convey. Because it is a logo there is almost certainly no free equivalent. Any substitute that is not a derivative work would fail to convey the meaning intended, would tarnish or misrepresent its image, or would fail its purpose of identification or commentary.
