The result was keep. I can see that there is a rough consensus, although there are slight reservations compared to other WP:LUGSTUB AFDs, that there is enough coverage to demonstrate notability. (non-admin closure) —👑PRINCE of EREBOR📜 12:18, 28 January 2026 (UTC)

• Keep per the significant coverage in multiple independent reliable sources. The subject passes Wikipedia:Notability (people)#Basic criteria, which says:

  People are presumed notable if they have received significant coverage in multiple published secondary sources that are reliable, intellectually independent of each other, and independent of the subject.

  • If the depth of coverage in any given source is not substantial, then multiple independent sources may be combined to demonstrate notability; trivial coverage of a subject by secondary sources is not usually sufficient to establish notability.

He is Zia Hussain, who was hit by a ball in the pelvis during practice on Monday. Mr Raleigh Leung, Assistant Chief of the Hongkong team, said Hussain was not in a serious condition but the doctors had told him it was better for him to rest in the hospital than Hongkong quarters. "Hussain will be out of action for one or two days. He is planning to go out again, but Mr Lall, the hockey team manager, has ordered him to stay in bed."

  There is sufficient coverage in reliable sources to allow Zia Hussain to pass Wikipedia:Notability#General notability guideline, which requires "significant coverage in reliable sources that are independent of the subject".

• Comment – I'm not entirely sure that the coverage establishes notability. Sources 3, 4, 7, and 12 are match reports. Source 5 is a short article on Hussain being fit after being injured. Source 6 doesn't contain much coverage of him. Source 8 is about him, but it focuses more on his injury than who he is. Source 9 simply mentions that a warning letter was signed by Hussain. Source 10 only contains two small mentions of him. Source 11 only contains a small mention of him. Source 12 is about Zia Hussain's brother (Z. Hussain is only mentioned as the brother of S. Hussain). Source 14 is a small mention of him. Source 15 simply mentions his name as part of the hockey team. Source 1 and 2 are okay, but they're still on the shorter side of things. Maybe these two could be enough, but if one more good source could be found, that'd be enough to convince me to vote to keep. Aviationwikiflight (talk) 16:05, 21 January 2026 (UTC)

  These are players who competed in the Olympic Games in the 1960s, the volume of mentions in newspapers is already an indication of their notability. Svartner (talk) 16:10, 21 January 2026 (UTC)

  The high volume of coverage doesn't necessarily mean that the coverage will be of good quality. The quality of the presented coverage does not appear to be similar compared to other Hong Kong field hockey players being AfDed (e.g. Farid Khan (field hockey); Daniel Castro (field hockey)...). At the end of the day, this isn't a delete/redirect/merge vote. The coverage does look very promising, but it falls slightly short of what I'd expect to establish notability (see the AfDs mentioned).   I agree, it would help if these sources were filtered to include only the ones that could possibly contribute to GNG. And it doesn't help that all of these are from a single paper. JoelleJay (talk) 01:51, 22 January 2026 (UTC)
