- (Find sources: Google (books · news · scholar · free images · WP refs) · FENS · JSTOR · TWL)
A Chinese oral and maxillofacial surgeon and university professor with no obvious notability. Sources are mainly in Chinese, which is a problem; no response from request for input from an expert. According to a 2021 "award" source 15 (Google translate)
- He has authored or co-authored 30 monographs both domestically and internationally, and published 290 papers, including 114 SCI papers, which have been cited a total of 1105 times.
which fails WP:NPROF. Taking to AfD to see if someone can indicate notability, or failing that delete as notability unverified. Ldm1954 (talk) 21:58, 29 January 2026 (UTC)

- Lean Keep, I think there's a possible case for WP:NPROF 7? A 2023 article from Minnesota (doi:10.3390/medicina59081409) includes Yang's technique for TMJ surgery as one of the "Recent Advances in Temporomandibular Joint Surgery". And a 2022 article from South America describes an improvement to Yang's technique (doi:10.1016/j.joms.2022.02.014). The geographic dispersion suggests to me that this is a fairly widely acknowledged advance. Jahaza (talk) 22:38, 29 January 2026 (UTC)
- Question Is there anyone or any group that could assist in tracking down someone who is fluent in both English and Chinese to evaluate the numerous Chinese sources in the article? As I said on the talk page, Chinese characters are notorious for being untranslatable by Google Translate and such inputs will often result in word salad, so I'd prefer to wait for an actual human to conduct a source evaluation before making any final conclusions on notability. (I'm not saying that the one translation provided by the OP necessarily is wrong or inaccurate, just that so many outputs of Chinese-to-English using Google Translate or similar tools have historically been known to be bad that I'd rather not trust those tools alone in making a determination about whether or not to delete something). - @Cunard: Can you assist with translation and source evaluation? An editor has requested input from someone who has Chinese language skills. Thanks.4meter4 (talk) 02:56, 6 February 2026 (UTC)
- Keep - I recently cleaned up and removed some promo content from this page and noticed it came up for deletion. Based on translated citations, he seems to have worked on technology that is very important to TMJ. There are enough citations to warant keeping this page.Mercedesnun (talk) 21:33, 31 January 2026 (UTC)

One is from Baidu. The 163.com article is just duplicating an article he co-authored. Of the two newspaper articles:
- Wen Hui Bao, After 30 years of dedicated research, Shanghai Ninth People's Hospital's Temporomandibular Joint Surgery Department has overcome numerous "international challenges," winning the second prize of the National Science and Technology Progress Award, 30年攻关拿下多个“国际难题”,上海九院颞下颌关节外科成果获国家科技进步奖二等奖 name checks Yang, but he's just one part of a larger project
- Xinmin Wang, https://newsxmwb.xinmin.cn/kechuang/2021/11/03/32056598.html is the same as the Wen Hui Bao article
- I'm not able to do a proper before-type search right now, but in my opinion none of the sources in the article count towards notability. He does have some cited articles in the 14-18 cite-count range on scholar (try https://scholar.google.com/scholar?hl=en&as_sdt=0%2C5&q=%E6%9D%A8%E9%A9%B0+%E4%BA%A4%E9%80%9A%E5%A4%A7%E5%AD%B8&btnG=) but whether this is going to help him in this field is beyond my expertise.Small text Oblivy (talk) 13:25, 6 February 2026 (UTC)
- Checking your GS link (thanks), those numbers are far below what would pass WP:NPROF. The only comment I have seen so far that might establish notability is the case made by Jahaza. However (from the journal pages) the review has 21 cites, and the other one 11. These are small numbers, so IMO being cited in those papers is not convincing evidence for notability. - Comment He has h-index of 41, according to Scopus. Kelob2678 (talk) 23:28, 13 February 2026 (UTC)
- That is useful, and it looks like the GS link provided earlier is incomplete, probably GS does not index well chinese texts.. Scopus lists 5K cites with his highest bring 203, 178, 175. Given that Scopus normally is lower than GS because they exclude conferences and many other eources, this is inching towards a pass of NPROF. Ldm1954 (talk) 02:48, 14 February 2026 (UTC)
- So this makes it double Keep for me. I already voted. 7000+ citations and 41 H-Index, is excellent. Mercedesnun (talk) 18:52, 14 February 2026 (UTC)

- Comment - He also has 2 awards. Just found this one National Invention Award, First Prize. So he might also meet the awards criteria of WP:NACADEMIC or WP:ANYBIO.Mercedesnun (talk) 19:20, 14 February 2026 (UTC)
- I looked at the article. think that link is when they gave the award someone called Yang Shihui. He claims it on his bio. Anyway, it's an award given by the university so probably not independent. https://www.shsmu.edu.cn/english/Research___Faculty/Achievements1/National_Science_and_Technology_Award.htm Oblivy (talk) 00:20, 15 February 2026 (UTC)
- Keep I have looked at the two sources given by @Jahaza up above and I would be prepared to accept he meets NPROF#1, significant impact on discipline. That's one article talking over three paragraphs about his technique as something well known in the field, and one specifically about how they can improve upon "Yang's technique". the fact this is being talked about in this way 10 and 11 years after, plus the h-index, and the national award (but not the article about the award) should be enough. The awards are kind of irrelevant, I think. Yes, he got second prize of the National Science and Technology Progress Award. But this article from "Shanghai Observer" www.jfdaily.com seems completely non-independent. The other award is given by Jiaotong university. Oblivy (talk) 01:59, 15 February 2026 (UTC)
- Keep - Passes WP:AUTHOR. Just take a look at both google books and google scholar. This individual has contributed a lot to their field. IJA (talk) 17:09, 15 February 2026 (UTC)
