GNU/Linux

[edit]

From http://www.ubuntu.com/: "Ubuntu is a community developed, linux-based operating system..."

From http://www.ubuntu.com/aboutus: "...Ubuntu has become one of the most highly regarded Linux distributions..." and "...Ubuntu aims to be the most widely used Linux system..."

No mention of "GNU/Linux". AlistairMcMillan 21:52, 19 April 2007 (UTC)Reply

Take a look at http://www.gnu.org/gnu/gnu-linux-faq.html to see why it is properly GNU/Linux. In brief, Linux is the kernel behind everything that makes it work, and when you talk about GNU/Linux, you're including some of the basic components that a functional system (such as Ubuntu) has. -Beard0 06:18, 24 April 2007 (UTC)Reply

Thanks but that is not the commonly used name. Please see GNU/Linux naming controversy. AlistairMcMillan 06:58, 24 April 2007 (UTC)Reply

I agree with Jc37's solution to the debate (removing the category alltogether and allowing each user to add the category as desired). -Beard0 11:49, 28 April 2007 (UTC)Reply

Actually, I found another solution which is a category that is unarguable: Wikipedians who use Ubuntu. -Beard0 11:53, 28 April 2007 (UTC)Reply
