Vague redirect?
[edit]Why does this redirect to {{Edit protected}}? This seems awfully vague, and while going through semi-protected edit requests, I frequently encounter requests mistaking that template for {{Edit COI}}, which is understandable to be honest. I really think this template should just be deprecated, like Special:Diff/1164994026 or something similar. pattersonuwu njz (talk) 02:23, 17 June 2026 (UTC)

- Agreed. I had made a comment on similar lines at Wikipedia_talk:Edit_requests/Archive_2#COI_parameter meamemg (talk) 18:45, 17 June 2026 (UTC)
- For the love of god, please don't touch this. It's one of the first red flags for people pasting in slop edit requests from chatgpt or its cursed brethren. I don't know why they use this specific one, but they do, and it's become an invaluable honeypot. –Deacon Vorbis (carbon • videos) 03:54, 18 June 2026 (UTC)
- Goootcha. Could we just add a warning to it then? Just a small one, warning COI editors to use a different template? I doubt the LLMs would pick up on that, perhaps its not worth the "risk" though pattersonuwu njz (talk) 07:16, 18 June 2026 (UTC)
- I'd say it's probably not needed; those that actually read through WP:COI are directed to the normal template name instead ofo this, so it probably wouldn't save anything. –Deacon Vorbis (carbon • videos) 13:04, 18 June 2026 (UTC)
- Thanks, I did not consider this. That answers a few of my questions about why so many edit requestors do this. LizardJr8 (talk) 17:02, 25 June 2026 (UTC)
- I'd really like to do this, but it actually would save something here. It directing to edit COI would be better as if it did, then we wouldn't have to spend so much time clearing through these requests. There is a user script from a later discussion about this (see User:Chaotic Enby/RequestEdit.js for the script) that we were planning to put to use and install into the current code for Wikipedia itself, but someone pasting a request would at least see the button at the top of the artcle/talk page (courtesy conversation restart pings to Deacon Vorbis Pattersonuwu LizardJr8) Theeverywhereperson talk here In solidarity! 07:06, 10 August 2026 (UTC)
- Yeah yeah. Honestly a good compromise could be to have a bot that automatically replies to edit requests made on non-edit protected pages I think. I do call dibs on that idea though if we end up doing it pattersonuwu njz (talk) 07:44, 10 August 2026 (UTC)
- Very often, these things consist of horribly broken markup, and manual cleanup is required anyway, so it's probably not a good task for a bot. –Deacon Vorbis (carbon • videos) 15:35, 10 August 2026 (UTC)
- True that actually ... pattersonuwu njz (talk) 18:59, 10 August 2026 (UTC)
