Alt

[edit]

Would it be possible to add some kind of alt to describe the images in the table?
And would it be possible to change to placeholder image to something better? Maybe File:No portrait.svg? Skjoldbro (talk) 10:55, 8 May 2019 (UTC)Reply

Or the option to add a caption to the image would be useful and cover some of the alt image issues. GraemeLeggett (talk) 11:41, 12 July 2024 (UTC)Reply

Election

[edit]

I think it would make more sense to have the election column placed before the start office one. What do you think?--Aréat (talk) 00:38, 9 November 2021 (UTC)Reply

Piping

[edit]

There needs to be a way to allow alternative names to be shown for a party to the link being used – for example when a party has been renamed. See this list and in particular the Dor (political party) line – Dor was named Gil at the time those officeholders were in office, so needs piping, but there appears no way to do that at present. Why is 'acting' coloured differently?

[edit]

This seems to run counter to the Manual of Style by introducing a coloured element intended to convey something without explaining it. GraemeLeggett (talk) 18:27, 14 September 2023 (UTC)Reply

Can't rowspan

[edit]

I want to do rowspan on multiple ministers in same cabinet, but looks like the parameter doesn't exist. Is there an alternative way/template? EdhyRa (talk) 00:37, 2 February 2024 (UTC)Reply

The "showref" option is broken

[edit]

The showref option displays !! Ref. outside of table and nothing is added to header row. This problem needs to be fixed. 96.82.59.129 (talk) 07:01, 26 May 2025 (UTC)Reply

Table with no portrait images

[edit]

A documented feature of this template is to create a table with no portrait images. This is the default behaviour of {{Officeholder table start}}, without setting showimage = y. However, I cannot see how this is works in {{Officeholder table}}. The lack of an image causes the template to fill in a placeholder image, even though there is no column title. Am I missing something? Example below:

NameTook officeLeft officeParty
Aye Person
Aye Person11 November 1983 (1983-11-11)15 November 1983 (1983-11-15) Independent
Another Person
Another Person15 November 1983 (1983-11-15)28 November 1983 (1983-11-28) Independent

Any help appreciated. MRSC (talk) 09:34, 6 November 2025 (UTC)Reply

I've added hide_image = y to achieve this.
NameTook officeLeft officeParty
Aye Person11 November 1983 (1983-11-11)15 November 1983 (1983-11-15) Independent
Another Person15 November 1983 (1983-11-15)28 November 1983 (1983-11-28) Independent
So now these work. Have added to documentation. MRSC (talk) 07:30, 7 November 2025 (UTC)Reply

Sortability optionality

[edit]

It would be nice if tables could have sortability turned off, as some articles have use for very short tables that would be better without sorting. For example, the article Chairman of the Joint Chiefs of Staff has one of these tables with only a single entry. Obviously it could be remade without using this template, so this change to the template should perhaps only be considered if it would be a simple change to make. — Misha Vargas (talk | contribs) 06:52, 17 January 2026 (UTC)Reply
