Project banner

The {{WikiProject Comics}} project banner template should be added (not subst:ed) to the talk page of every article within the scope of the project. While the template does not require any additional parameters, it has a number of optional ones that add various extra features to the banner. This template automatically adds articles to Category:WikiProject Comics articles. The full syntax is as follows:

Parameters

General parameters:

  • class – This WikiProject follows Project-Independent Quality Assessment. Please add valid |class= values to {{WikiProject banner shell}} instead of this WikiProject. Valid class values can be found at Wikipedia:Content assessment.
  • importance – valid values are listed in the custom importance mask. See the project's importance scale for details. Setting an explicit value of NA is rarely necessary; for this, either leave |importance= blank or omit the parameter.
  • attention – set |attention=yes if the article needs immediate attention from experienced editors. Use only if another parameter does not cover the need for attention; this should be used sparingly. It is strongly encouraged to also add a section to the talk page explaining what needs attention.
  • cleanup – set |cleanup=yes if the article requires general cleaning up. Please detail what aspects of the article require clean-up on the article's talk page, otherwise the tag can be removed without redress to the problems.
  • fiction – set |fiction=yes if the article needs rewriting to maintain an out of universe approach per Wikipedia:Writing about fiction.
  • future – set |future=yes if the article contains discussion of comics that have been announced but are currently unpublished. Such articles should avoid recentism and statements that will date quickly.
  • needs-image – set |needs-image=yes if the article requires an image, which should be added per guidance.
  • needs-infobox – set |needs-infobox=yes if the article needs an infobox. Remember that infoboxes are not suitable for all articles, and can overwhelm short articles.
  • listas – This parameter, which is the equivalent of the DEFAULTSORT sortkey that should be placed on all biographical articles, is a sortkey for the article talk page (e.g. for Bob Kane, use |listas=Kane, Bob so that the talk page will show up in the K's and not the B's of the various assessment and administrative categories; similarly, for topics with titles beginning with an article such as "the" or "a" - e.g. for The Family Circus, use |listas=Family Circus, The so that the talk page will show up in the F's). This is important because it is one source used by those who set DEFAULTSORT on the article; consider also setting the DEFAULTSORT for the article when setting this parameter. For more information about this, please see Wikipedia:Categorization of people § Ordering names in a category.
    If the article is using {{WikiProject banner shell}} then it is preferable to add |listas= to that template instead of a project banner template. Putting the parameter on more than one template is not required.
  • category – set |category=no if, and only if, a banner is being used for demonstration or testing purposes, to prevent unnecessary or undesirable categorization. Otherwise, omit this parameter.

Reviews and collaborations:

  • A-Class – set |A-Class=current, |A-Class=pass or |A-Class=fail if the article indicates the status of the article's A-Class review.
  • collaboration-candidate – set |collaboration-candidate=yes if the page is a candidate to be the project collaboration.
  • current-collaboration – set |current-collaboration=yes if the page is currently the project collaboration.
  • past-collaboration – set |past-collaboration=yes (or any non-blank value other than "no", "n", "0" or "¬", such as the dates it was part of the collaboration) if the page was a past project collaboration.
  • peer-review – set |peer-review=yes if the article is currently undergoing a peer review, or to request that the peer review process for this page should be begun.
  • old-peer-review – set |old-peer-review=yes if the article has had a peer review which is now archived.
    • This parameter populates Category:Old requests for comics peer review.
    • article-title – If the peer review page has been started, but is not at Wikipedia:WikiProject Comics/Peer review/{{SUBJECTPAGENAME}}, set this parameter; i.e. if the peer review page is Wikipedia:WikiProject Comics/Peer review/Foobar, set |article-title=Foobar.

Portals:

  • portalX-name – if the article has been selected for use on a portal, the name of that portal. The name should be given without any formatting or namespace prefixes; thus, Portal:Comics is given as "|portal1-name=Comics". Up to five different portals may be specified, via the parameters portal1-name through portal5-name.
  • portalX-link – the portal subpage location where the article may be found on the corresponding portal. This should be given as a pure unlinked subpage name; thus, Portal:Comics/Featured article/9 is given as "|portal1-link=Featured article/9".

  • The parameters |Batman= and |batman= are recognised as aliases for |Batman-work-group=. If more than one is present, |Batman= has precedence over |batman=, and |Batman-work-group= has precedence over both of the others: parameters with lower precedence are ignored.
  • The parameters |british= and |British= are recognised as aliases for |British-work-group=. If more than one is present, |british= has precedence over |British=, and |British-work-group= has precedence over both of the others: parameters with lower precedence are ignored.
  • The parameters |canadian= and |Canadian= are recognised as aliases for |Canadian-work-group=. If more than one is present, |canadian= has precedence over |Canadian=, and |Canadian-work-group= has precedence over both of the others: parameters with lower precedence are ignored.
  • The parameters |Film= and |film= are recognised as aliases for |Comic-book-films-work-group=. If more than one is present, |Film= has precedence over |film=, and |Comic-book-films-work-group= has precedence over both of the others: parameters with lower precedence are ignored.
  • The parameters |creators= and |Creators= are recognised as aliases for |Creators-work-group=. If more than one is present, |creators= has precedence over |Creators=, and |Creators-work-group= has precedence over both of the others: parameters with lower precedence are ignored.
  • The parameters |DC= and |dc= are recognised as aliases for |DC-work-group=. If more than one is present, |DC= has precedence over |dc=, and |DC-work-group= has precedence over both of the others: parameters with lower precedence are ignored.
  • The parameters |euro= and |Euro= are recognised as aliases for |European-work-group=. If more than one is present, |euro= has precedence over |Euro=, and |European-work-group= has precedence over both of the others: parameters with lower precedence are ignored.
  • The parameters |Marvel= and |marvel= are recognised as aliases for |Marvel-work-group=. If more than one is present, |Marvel= has precedence over |marvel=, and |Marvel-work-group= has precedence over both of the others: parameters with lower precedence are ignored.

To avoid needlessly cluttering up talk pages, it is usually appropriate to remove any unused parameters from the template.
