Template:Toponymie/doc

This template creates a citation, including external link, to the information page for a geographical name in Quebec at the Commission de toponymie du Québec website (at toponymie.gouv.qc.ca). The website catalogs information about each geographic name in Quebec (for municipalities, former municipalities, rivers, lakes, street names, districts and neighbourhoods, etc.), including an explanation of the origin of the name where available.

Usage

Description of parameters

• first unnamed parameter: This is the numerical code for the corresponding webpage.
  To look it up:
  1. Go to the Commission de toponymie website.
  2. Type the geographical name in the Recherche de noms de lieux ("search place names") field, then click on the Soumettre ("submit") button.
  3. If successful, the resulting page will show a listing, which may include a long list of street names and other items. Find the right item in the listing and click on it.
  • Example: {{toponymie |88}} for Abercorn, Quebec

    Result: "Reference number 88". Banque de noms de lieux du Québec [Bank of place names of Quebec] (in French). Commission de toponymie du Québec.

  • Example: {{toponymie |372811}} for Yamaska, Quebec
