Template:Recent RfX/doc

From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

This template is used in order to add and format an individual row of a recent or past RfX closure result to a table containing a list of past RfX closures. It is mainly used on the table of recent RfA, RfB, and admin election results (which is displayed on the main Wikipedia:Requests for adminship page as well as others) as well as the Wikipedia:Requests for adminship by year records page and all of its subpages.

This template does not add a header to format the top (or beginning) of a list of recent RfX templates, nor does it add the necessary code to format the bottom of the table. Consequently, this template cannot be used in a standalone list without additional code to format the top and bottom of the table. This is typically accomplished by adding another template above the list of Recent RfX template rows to create the table header, and either another template below the list or simply the table-closing code. For example, the table on the Wikipedia:Requests for adminship/Recent page includes the {{Wikipedia:Requests for adminship/Recent/Top}} template immediately above the list of Recent RfX template rows to format the top of the table, then simply adds the table-closing code (|}) beneath the list. Similarly, each subpage of Wikipedia:Requests for adminship by year that uses this template to list the RfX closure results for a given year includes the {{Wikipedia:Requests for adminship by year/Top}} template immediately above the template rows to format the top of the table and the {{Wikipedia:Requests for adminship by year/Bottom}} template immediately below the list to format the bottom of the table.

NOTE: The community consensus is to list only the three most recent RfX closures to the table of recent RfX results unless there are more than three recent RfX closures that are newer than three months. When this situation applies, avoid adding more than the seven most-recent RfX closures to the page. All RfX closure rows that are removed from this template should be added to Wikipedia:Requests for adminship by year (if not done so already).

Parameters

[edit]

NOTE: All parameters are required, unless noted below.

  • Parameter 1: The request process that was used:
  • Parameter 2: The candidate's username, entered as plain text.
  • Parameter 3: See below:
    • If the recent RfX was an AE or ARE, enter the month and year of the election cycle (the full month name and 4-digit year, separated by a space).[note 1] Example using today's date: August 2026.
    • If the recent RfX was an RfA, RRfA, or RfB, enter the candidate's subsequent RfA or RfB application number (if any previous applications for the same user permissions exist).[note 2] RRfA applications use the same subsequent number as RfA applications. Leave this parameter blank if it's their first.[note 3]
    • Expand the Parameter 3 Additional Details box below for further explanation.
  • Parameter 4: Date of closure. Always outputs day, not zero padded; month, abbreviated; and four-digit year, using the #time ParserFunction. Example using today's date: 7 Aug 2026.
  • Parameter 5: The number of total support votes that the process closed with.[note 4]
  • Parameter 6: The number of total oppose votes that the process closed with.[note 4]
  • Parameter 7: The number of total neutral or abstain votes that the process closed with.[note 4]
  • Parameter 8: The symbol corresponding to the result of the process after closure.
    • Expand the Parameter 8 Symbol List box below for a list of available closure result symbols to use.

Notes

[edit]
  1. This is used to create the link to the AE candidate page at [[Wikipedia:Administrator elections/{{{AE MONTH AND YEAR}}}/Candidates/{{{USERNAME OF CANDIDATE}}}]].
  2. This is used to create the link to the candidate's RfA or RfB page at [[Wikipedia:Requests for adminship/{{{USERNAME OF CANDIDATE}}} {{SUBSEQUENT APPLICATION NUMBER}}]] or [[Wikipedia:Requests for bureaucratship/{{{USERNAME OF CANDIDATE}}} {{SUBSEQUENT APPLICATION NUMBER}}]], respectively. If this is their first application, the {{SUBSEQUENT APPLICATION NUMBER}} portion of the link is omitted.
  3. If any number less than 2 is entered for RfA, RfB, or RRfA applications, it is ignored and a link to the candidate's first application page for the given process is displayed by the template instead. If any fractional or decimal value is entered for RfA, RfB, or RRfA applications, the decimal places are truncated and removed, and the resulting whole number is used.
  4. 1 2 3 If any number less than 0 is entered, it is ignored and the default value of 0 is displayed and calculated into the percentage instead. If any fractional or decimal value is entered, the decimal places are truncated and removed, and the resulting whole number is used.
  5. If there is a closure result that you believe is becoming commonly used and should be added to the Recent RfX template and to this list, you can reach out to Oshwah for assistance so that he can discuss the proposal, provide input, add it to the template, and update this documentation page.
  6. Using an invalid closure result for an AE or ARE will result in an error being displayed in the template upon previewing or saving the page.
