Template:Cite XHIP/doc

From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

Usage

[edit]

This template produces a standardised citation, and optionally a link to a VizeR query output, for a Hipparcos identifier.

Using this template provides uniform and accurate citations across large numbers of articles, and links directly to the relevant entry in the catalogue.

{{Cite XHIP}} can be used without parameters, in which case it generates just the standard citation. The single parameter is used to create a link to an individual entry in the VizieR database; this is optional but encouraged. The parameter should be a Hipparcos identifier number for an astronomical object.

For example, to link to the database entry for Sirius (HIP 32349):

  • {{Cite XHIP|32349}}

returns

  • Anderson, E.; Francis, Ch. (2012). "XHIP: An extended hipparcos compilation". Astronomy Letters. 38 (5): 331. arXiv:1108.4971. Bibcode:2012AstL...38..331A. doi:10.1134/S1063773712050015.

XHIP record for this object at VizieR.

There are two optional fields:

  • mode, either "cs1" or "cs2"
  • postscript, defines the terminal punctuation for the citation, usually used with mode=cs2
