Usage

[edit]
  • uid can be any of the following different types of MeSH identifiers:
    • One type is a traditional uid, which should be an 8 digit number. Example: ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/mesh/68011014 is Pneumonia. If you want to find this identifier for a certain item and your URL does not end in an 8-digit-number string, click on a different item in the categories tree on the page and then navigate back to your original page by clicking on it on the categories tree to arrive at a URL containing the proper string. Alternatively, in the "Related information" box on the right, click on "dbGaP Links" or "MedGen" and find the uid from the resulting URL.
    • Another is the MeSH Unique ID, which can be a "D" or "A" followed by six numbers. Example: ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/mesh/D011014 is also Pneumonia. This will be listed on the page.
    • The last common type is the Tree Number, which should start with a letter and be followed by multiple numbers with included decimal points. This will also be listed on the webpage. See List of MeSH codes to find a list. Example: ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/mesh/C01.748.610 is also Pneumonia and ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/mesh/D08.811.913.696.620.682.324 is Connectin.
  • name is the name of the item, defined in the title.
  • access-date is the date the URL was visited. Technically optional.
  • MeSH Unique ID is the MeSH Unique ID, defined on the webpage. Should be in the format of D######. Example: meshb.nlm.nih.gov/record/ui?ui=D011014 is Pneumonia. Technically optional. (It appends an id field to the citation that links to "MeSH Browser" instead of "MeSH Search" with a MeSH Unique ID identifier.
