Zenodo links blocked

Why are Zenodo links blocked on Wikipedia when Academia.edu links are allowed? This is an extremely valuable resource that should not be completely blocked. Rather, we should blocked specific Zenodo links that are known to be copyrighted, but not the entire website. This is the equivalent of blocking all of YouTube since some (but not all) videos are copyrighted. — Stevey7788 (talk) 18:54, 7 November 2018 (UTC)

@Stevey7788: in what sense "blocked"? Also, this talk page is for discussing ways to improve the Zenodo article. In the sense of MediaWiki_talk:Spam-blacklist#zenodo.org. Stevey7788 has since asked at User_talk:JzG#Zenodo where there is some additional discussion. The Zenodo article is affected in that it contains links to Zenodo which are currently blocked as well (temporarily, I assume). Nemo 10:49, 8 November 2018 (UTC)

If you believe that a link should not be on the blacklist, the appropriate avenue is to ask for its removal as explained above. It should be a credible discussion about the value of the link and predominantly how it would be used as a reliable source. Making a comparison to another site's linking would not normally carry weight in that discussion. Relevance of latest "History" addition

I feel like the latest addition to the history section was done by a spiteful Zenodo user whose article was classified as Spam. I have since added context to the sentence, since I feel like removing this completely could look like censorship (Full disclosure: I am affiliated with CERN, even though not directly with the Zenodo team).

Nevertheless, I think that this sentence is rather a technical detail which does not really belong on Wikipedia. Any opinions on this? Alpaca95 (talk) 13:42, 21 June 2026 (UTC)

I have attempted to reformulate to closer align with the original statements by Zenodo made on the source linked in this sentence https://github.com/zenodo/zenodo/issues/2604 rather than the interpretation, which was presented here. For example, according to the statement by Zenodo, record may not be indexed by external search engines but I understood the sentence here that records may not be shown in Zenodo search results, which is inaccurate. This is definitely an interesting issue, it affects me as well as an academic without affiliation but I feel that this here should be presented as close as possible to the original statements made by Zenodo. Also, is the History section the correct location? This was not a feature implemented, it was just a clarification of policies that became apparent at this point of time.
