No mention of Launch Mechanism

[edit]

There's no reference at present to launch mechanism used for the Model A - a somewhat fundamental element of a practical aircraft. The 1908 flight log for records set at Camp d'Auvours ( https://www.centennialofflight.net/chrono/log/1908CampdAuvours.htm ) makes scant mention of the catapult but elsewhere ( https://wrightstories.com/wilbur-at-camp-dauvours/ ) we have notes such as "Later, the French must have reconsidered Wilbur’s use of the catapult launching and decided it gave him an advantage. The Aero-Club de France announced an altitude competition that contained a restriction on the use of a catapult in a disguised attempt to handicap Wilbur. He won the prize anyway on November 23 by employing an extra long launching rail that enabled him to dispense with the catapult." (typo somewhere as Nov 23, 1908 is not in the "flight log").
