Reopening of lock
[edit]The article states that the lock was reopened in 1973, but there is no reference for this, so I have added a "citation needed" tag. The Crofton Locks and Wootton Rivers Locks were some of the last to be opened, as they had lost their water supply in 1958 when the top of the chimney of Crofton Pumping Station was demolished. Attempts were made to reflood the summit pound, and hence provide a water supply to the Wootton Rivers Locks and Crofton Locks in August 1988, but there was too much leakage of the Crofton pounds. Although an opening ceremony was held in October 1988, both flights of locks remained dry until the Crofton pounds were repuddled, which took place between March and May 1989. After this date, limited use of the locks was possible. All of this is documented in various places, including Restoring the Kennet and Avon Canal by Peter Lindley-Jones (2002).
