The problem is that there are very few secondary reliable sources about Gant. According to NY City birth and census records, he was born May 10, 1899, father David Gant and mother Sarah Rayner Gant. and he lists his occupation as musician in the census. He married Ethel Leonard in 1916 and in 1919 they had Willie Jr. She died in 1925, and I think he probably remarried, but I haven't been able to get that far yet. The Social Security death index has him dying March 1974, and the zip code for the March 1974 death is 10037, which is consistent with his living in Lenox Terrace apartments.
