Their eldest daughter Mary married(?)^[1] a grocer from Melcombe Regis called Walter Thornhill, and the painter, Sir James Thornhill was their son.

In about 1690, their daughter Mary's husband(?) Walter Thornhill fled to Massachusetts to escape a debt to his sister-in-law in Stalbridge, and abandoned Mary and their eleven children, including James. Mary's parents being both now dead, she and her children were taken in by a brother of her father (Sydenham). Walter Thornhill went on to father two more children (illegitimate) in America.^[2]
