The Dictionary of National Biography refers to him as "William fitz Osbert", which would help avoid confusion with the other William fitz Osbern, the Earl of Hereford. —Preceding unsigned comment added by 78.151.97.249 (talk) 09:13, 10 June 2008 (UTC)Reply

(DNB Volume 19, page 198) "William Fitzosbert (d. 1196), demagogue; known 'Longbeard'; led agitation in London against the city magnates, particularly in connection with the aids levied for Richard I's ransom, 1194; dragged from sanctuary in Bow Church by order of the primate and hanged in chains at Smithfield."
