Adding unreferenced entries of former employees to lists containing BLP material

[edit]

Hello, Please do not add unreferenced names as entries to the list of former employees in articles. Including this type of material in articles does not abide by current consensus and its inclusion is strongly discouraged in our policies and guidelines. The rationales are as follows:

  1. WP:NOT tells us, Wikipedia is "not an indiscriminate collection of information." As that section describes, just because something is true, doesn't necessarily mean the info belongs in Wikipedia.
  2. As per WP:V, we cannot include information in Wikipedia that is not verifiable and sourced.
  3. WP:Source list tells us that lists included within articles (including people's names) are subject to the same need for references as any other information in the article.
  4. Per WP:BLP, we have to be especially careful about including un-sourced info about living persons.

If you look at articles about companies in general, you will not find mention of previous employees, except in those cases where the employee was particularly notable. Even then, the information is not presented just as a list of names, but is incorporated into the text itself (for example, when a company's article talks about the policies a previous CEO had, or when they mention the discovery/invention of a former engineer/researcher). If a preexisting article is already in the encyclopedia for the person you want to add to a list, it's generally regarded as sufficient to support their inclusion in list material in another article. cheers Deconstructhis (talk) 01:04, 28 April 2011 (UTC)Reply

Official Station - no announcement, so why include it

[edit]

Has an announcement been made? Is this a contract expiration only? If so, it would be better to say

WFRV and Milwaukee station WTMJ purchased the rights to be the Official Packers Stations and carried Packers-related programming along with the Packers' non-network pre-season broadcasts through the 2011 season. No announcement on a new contract has been made. DrBear (talk) 19:23, 6 February 2012 (UTC)Reply

Fixed it...I have heard no announcements myself, though I'm sure once it's known the winning station will blare the agreement across their airwaves. Nate • (chatter) 02:45, 10 February 2012 (UTC)Reply

Guest Hosts

Love Jarrett Bush! Well spoken, intelligent, super likeable and funny. Great combo. Would come to see him live! Keep him. He's a winner! 184.97.201.196 (talk) 01:24, 5 January 2022 (UTC)Reply

I'll do this one. « Gonzo fan2007 (talk) @ 15:11, 17 March 2025 (UTC)Reply

Sammi Brie, bear with me, as this is the first GAN in a while that I have done that isn't directly AmerFoot-related. But, its a Packers article, so happy to do the review!! Seeing your typical subject area and mine, if you have any interest in Packers Radio Network, WIXX, WRNW, WGBA-TV, WTMJ-TV, or Spectrum News, I would be happy to jump on the GAN review on those quickly. Cheers! « Gonzo fan2007 (talk) @ 15:23, 17 March 2025 (UTC)Reply

There's a good chance more TV stations in Wisconsin get done up at some point. WMTV is up for nomination, and WJFW-TV has been completed and is awaiting nomination (for every GA nominee I have right now, I have almost seven more pages ready to go). I have to admit I've looked at WGBA myself. WTMJ is a very big fish, but it is doable. Sammi Brie (she/her · t · c) 17:23, 17 March 2025 (UTC)Reply
Awesome! I'm really mostly interested in TV stations with a connection to the Green Bay Packers and fall within the WP:PACKERS WikiProject (which is why I listed the ones I did :). Let me know if you hit any of the above and happy to turn the review around quickly. « Gonzo fan2007 (talk) @ 14:06, 18 March 2025 (UTC)Reply

Lead

[edit]
  • There are a few duplicate links: CBS (twice in the lead but no link in the body), NBC, Dumont Television Network, WGBA-TV
    • Leaving the WGBA one in because of the distance between the two links.
      • Ok.
  • the station maintains studios on East Mason Street in Green Bay, and its transmitter is located north of Morrison, Wisconsin. --> the station maintains studios on East Mason Street in Green Bay and a transmitter north of Morrison, Wisconsin.
  • a station that broadcast beginning in January 1954 --> a station that began broadcasting in January 1954
  • The link to Planning permission seems confusing as you reference the permit being for "channel 5" but its not clear that you are referencing a building permit for a building?
    • A section of this article is basically the article on the broadcasting term "construction permit", so this is unfortunately the right target. It's... a bit awkwardly shoved in here.
  • and was ultimately owned entirely by Neenah-Menasha
    • Not quite the case, as originally Neenah-Menasha only owned 59% of WFRV-TV.
      • I just don't like the word "ultimately" unless there is context. Like if you were to say "John Smith began purchasing stock in the company and ultimately owned the whole thing after 5 years".

History

[edit]
  • radio station WNAM (1280 AM), the station carried duplication of "station" is not preferred
  • station—WNAM-TV—and two very high frequency (VHF) outlets, WBAY-TV on channel 2 and new sign-on WMBV-TV on channel 11. the different use of punctuation here to show lists (m dash and commas) is sort of weird. I would consider something else.
  • Meanwhile, the Federal Communications Commission (FCC) had awarded the third and final commercial channel for Green Bay, channel 5, to the Valley Telecasting Company, a consortium of 17 area leaders,[6] in 1953. this sentence could be simplified by rearranging: By 1953, the Federal Communications Commission (FCC) had awarded the third and final commercial channel for Green Bay, channel 5, to the Valley Telecasting Company, a consortium of 17 area leaders.[6]
  • Later that year, the station broadcast what was claimed to be the first ever coverage of a live lunar eclipse: a studio camera was wheeled out into the station parking lot. colon use is clunky. Just full stop and add "to capture the event." to the end of the sentence
  • "construction permit" is linked in the lead but not in the first use in the body
  • it would be nearly two years before a construction permit was granted on April 23, 1969. --> it took nearly two years for a construction permit to be granted on April 23, 1969.
  • An even larger change was in the offing. this sentence is too colloquial and not encyclopedic. Just delete entirely.
  • general manager of both stations;[41] Denk replaced Perry Kidder, semi-colon makes this a run-on sentence. Recommend a full stop instead.
  • I've added a paragraph and a half. WFRV is odd in that it is missing history cards (along with some other TV stations starting with WF like WFSB and WFTV). I missed a detail that merited attention once I did a bunch of shuffling: Valley Telecasting's original application was for channel 6, which was moved to channel 5 to give Milwaukee a third VHF channel. (Someday, WITI (TV).) Sammi Brie (she/her · t · c) 20:19, 19 March 2025 (UTC)Reply

Programming

[edit]
  • led by WBAY-TV. add "which is usually" before "led"
  • had dedicated facilities including a microwave link for sending stories back add commas before "including" and after "link"
    • One comma makes sense, but the appositive is the whole rest of the sentence.
      • You're right. I was reading the phrase as an interrupter, but I guess it isn't.
  • I know he is mentioned in the previous section, but I think you should add Larry McCarren to the list of "Notable former on-air staff"
    • This is a higher-level discussion for the project... I've had this come up in several articles now. Be on the lookout for something at WT:TVS, but until then, I won't do this quite yet.
      • Ok, not really important to my review of the article.
  • WFRV would greatly expand its local news output -->WFRV greatly expanded its local news output
  • Your first use of "NFL" should be "National Football League (NFL)"

  • Formatting: looks good, only question is why you don't link sources like newspapers? Ref #67 and #75 have them linked, so if you aren't then recommend being consistent.
    • Tried to link on first mention, though I only start doing that at FA level.
  • Reliability: all sources are reliable for what is being cited. Most sources are newspapers from Newspapers.com.
  • Spot checks: I typically do 25% spot checks. For 78 sources that would be 20. Picked at random:
    • 2, 5, 7, 9, 14, 19, 21, 23, 27, 30, 31, 36, 42, 45, 47, 48, 53, 57, 65, 70, and 75 all checked out
    • Ref #5 doesn't seem to support the Dumont and NBC statements
      • Sure seems like WNAM-TV was ABC-only. Edited to match. The station was a DuMont affiliate in '55, though, after moving to channel 5.
    • 48 is a dead link.
    • 47: where does it say it was a $20 million dollar deal?
    • 53 is a dead link
    • Please check all the TVNewsCheck links. They either need to be replaced, or if they have archives then the parameter needs to be changed to dead.
    • 57 just go to the home page, likely a dead link.
  • Sammi Brie, that completes my review. Please let me know when you feel like everything has been addressed or responded to. « Gonzo fan2007 (talk) @ 22:16, 19 March 2025 (UTC)Reply
@Gonzo fan2007 TVNewsCheck switched its URL scheme and at some point broke redirects, so I've replaced all the URLs. The purchase price issue was fixed by moving that info to the [46] sentence. [57] is broken because of the Sullivan's Landing acquisition (Morgan Murphy changed the branding of the news department and presumably did not pick up the CMS), so I've marked it as dead. All other issues should be handled. Sammi Brie (she/her · t · c) 05:48, 20 March 2025 (UTC)Reply
