2020 Census data

Stacer, Indiana

Wikipedia:Redirects_for_discussion/Log/2026_July_18#Stacer,_Indiana was closed as a redirect to this article, where it was listed as an unsourced entry under "Unincorporated towns". The RfD concluded that "It is clear from the sources that there was some sort of settlement named "Stacer" in Vanderburgh County, Indiana", however the only sources that potentially support that assertion are mentions in the Society pages of the Evansville Courier and Press which describe local goings-on such as "The postmaster of Staser made a business trip to Inglefield, In., and bought two turkeys og W.D. Miller. They weighed fifty pounds each, the heaviest turkeys in Scott township." I'm not sure that these are sufficient to merit a mention in this article, since they seem to be a correspondant collecting bits of gossip from the local dispersed rural population, and most other sources only mention a post office and railroad station. We now find ourselves in the awkward position of having an RfD that was closed based on its mention in this article, and yet we don't seem to have sufficient sourcing to include it here. • I think Thryduulf's close was quite hasty, not because of the No Consensus outcome, which is fair, but the retarget to this county, which I had opposed, as the final comment of the RfD. As you had already commented I've removed it from the Unincorporated Towns list in the Vanderburgh County article., and I checked the history and couldn't find a trace of this action. I pinged you for clarification, but the close happened around 2 hours after that. If the mention is removed now, I believe the redirect can be nominated fresh, or request the closer to reverse the close, depending on what action you take in this county article. I agree with your assessment, but at this point I think it's best to give it a week for sources to be added. If they're not, then I'll remove it and go back to RfD. When it comes to claimed "unincorporated communities" I'm always open to editors finding sources and proving me wrong. –dlthewave ☎ 22:32, 8 August 2026 (UTC)

It shouldn't be listed as an unincorporated town because no source refers to it as a town, and it being a settlement does not make it a town. Traumnovelle (talk) 21:27, 8 August 2026 (UTC)

I have no opinion on the sourcing or if it should be in the article; my take is that it's inclusion in the article should be determined by normal editorial processes and then the redirect point at where it's mentioned (if mentioned anywhere) or deleted if not. The consensus at the RfD was that it should be mentioned somewhere. Where that somewhere is is not an RfD matter, and I have no opinion about that, I picked this article because, at the time of the close, it was the only one of the suggested locations that had any sort of mention. I explicitly noted that if content is added somewhere other than the Unincorporated towns section of this article the redirect should be retargetted to that other location.
