Telescope Apertures at the Valongo Observatory

[edit]

The telescope apertures at the Valongo Observatory are incorrect. The Cooke & Sons refractor has a 0.30 m aperture and was installed at the site in the 1910s, before the Observatório Nacional in Rio de Janeiro installed instruments with similar or larger apertures at its São Cristóvão campus. The Zeiss Coudé refractor has a 0.15 m aperture and was installed in the 1970s. The Pazos refractor has a 0.10 m aperture and is a nationally built instrument from the second half of the 19th century, constructed in Rio de Janeiro. 2804:D47:741A:9E00:8587:B19C:BADA:8792 (talk) 14:22, 5 October 2025 (UTC)Reply
