unlink is specified by the POSIX Specification and the Single UNIX Specification. GNU Core Utils follows POSIX. But they do not always follow it to a T, since it is not POSIX certified. However, there are many other libraries that also follow POSIX in a similar manner: BusyBox, ToyBox, Microsoft Posix (which has influenced Windows kernel greatly ever since Windows NT... but fully follow posix, such as fork, was moved to an optional package), and FreeRTOS to name a few.

I believe Apple obtained POSIX certification with OS X 10.6. So it can be said that it is actually more Unix-like then most Linux's (cite needed, but there are a lot of flavors of Linux that are not POSIX complaint).

It is not a big enough note to add these details to the article. But I thought I would mention it. Most operating systems, including Windows (at least at the kernel level), are Unix-like.
