It’s far right

[edit]

It’s has many far right elements Usydydjwhxyxhx (talk) 19:38, 31 January 2024 (UTC)Reply

Please cite some reliable sources backing up your claims. Thanks, A09|(talk) 20:44, 31 January 2024 (UTC)Reply
No, this party is neither far-right nor even right-wing. Many of party members are open neo-Communists admiring USSR and Stalin, hating "nationalists, imperialists and Anglo Saxons". Russian nationalism is considered by United Russia as "a threat" - you would see any Putin's speech on this topic. TipTopUser (talk) 16:25, 19 January 2025 (UTC)Reply
There can be considerable overlap between the far-left and the far-right. Much of the admiration for the USSR comes less from an ideological perspective and more from romanticising Russia's place on the world stage in that era. Also what they say is somewhat irrelevant given that disinformation is a major weapon of theirs. — Czello (music) 17:12, 19 January 2025 (UTC)Reply
However, rhetoric matters, especially for definition of party's political position. Right-wing (including far-right) parties are against Communism, against mass immigration, against Leftists. Unlike United Russia that has never transmitted such or similar narratives. Instead of them we could hear about Anglo-Saxon imperialists, Western racists, suppression of African peoples, etcetera. Czello, let's achieve consensus about my edit :) The word "generally" is obviously redundant - there is no one reliable source calling united Russia as "far-right". And why does only Europe need to be mentioned there? In Asia, Africa and Latin America, United Russia supports left-wing parties including ruling ones. It could be seen in countries like China (whose Communist party is United Russia's closest ally), Cuba, Venezuela, and many others. TipTopUser (talk) 14:41, 24 January 2025 (UTC)Reply
The average self-proclaimed "Communist" in Russia is quite simply a Russian Nationalist who erroneously believes that the USSR was "Big Russia" and therefore good. They don't actually support Communist principles in any way. Putin regularly badmouths Lenin and the only reason Stalin is seen favorably is because he was more conservative than Lenin and was the leader during a time period when they were being invaded by a genocidal army hellbent on the extermination of all Slavic people and turning Moscow into a lake. Nationalism?

[edit]

Party program decries "all forms of nationalism". ~2026-35512-27 (talk) 19:03, 17 June 2026 (UTC)Reply

Independent sources take priority over WP:PRIMARY sources. — Czello (music) 19:17, 17 June 2026 (UTC)Reply

Why no REAL changes on this page?

[edit]

Looks like we have a lot of Russian "Cops" here as Petr Cibulka would say. ~2026-47555-80 (talk) 18:11, 1 September 2026 (UTC)Reply

"big tent"?

[edit]

the infobox says "big tent" while its sources mostly saying that it's centre to right-wing. the label "big tent" suggests a left-wing current. but there is no left-wing putinism which would be classified as left-wing by the standards of left-wing politics - the most left-wing position within united russia is centre. so it would be right for the infobox to say not "big-tent", but rather "centre to right-wing" ~2026-49084-26 (talk) 18:13, 10 September 2026 (UTC)Reply

I agree, the party is mostly formed out of centrists and right-wing nationalists. So it has to currents in one party: centrism and right-wing national conservatism. So the most logical position would be: centre to centre-right or centre to right-wing ~2026-53044-96 (talk) 21:55, 2 October 2026 (UTC)Reply

Centrism

[edit]

I suggest removing the Centrism link from the ideology section of the article's infobox. Centrism is not an ideology, and given that United Russia is effectively a far-right Putinist party, it is inappropriate. ProgramT (talk) 02:44, 19 September 2026 (UTC)Reply

I would not call it ''far-right'' per se, it has members that have various political leaning, but I'd agree that removal of Centrism is needed, the sources backing it up is old and mainly from the party itself, I'd say Putinism is more valid to describe UR as. "Statism"

[edit]

Sorry to add to the noise about the ideology section of the infobox, but "statism" is incredibly vague and its use is confusing to an English speaker familiar with Western politics. I understand that this is what trusted sources attribute to the party, so someone who is more familiar with Russian politics might want to add a note elaborating more precisely what is meant by "statism". It seems to me that either something is getting lost in translation, there is context about Russian politics that is missing here ("statism" as opposed to what?), or it's being used as a euphemism for "authoritarianism" or something. "Statism" is mentioned in the article but not much explanation is given. One use is in a quote by a former prime minister, and it is used in scare quotes, which implies maybe it's being used as a euphemism. "Putinism"

[edit]

the article doesn't use "Putinism" in the infobox, but I think it should as the most accurate label. @MarkAthers863 already suggested adding it above. i'll add it if there are no objections Opostylov (talk) 07:35, 2 October 2026 (UTC)Reply
