This looks like a billboard for Underberg. And I like Underberg, it's probably the digestif I consume most often myself, but half of this article's contents are fluff.

Hey, I'm reading a book called "Drunk on Genocide" by Edward Westermann about alcohol in Nazi Germany (I am a graduate student in history) and it contains the following on page 185:
"In a letter home from Russia, dated October 6, 1943, Corporal Gustav Gerhardts wrote, 'Yesterday there was a whole bunch of schnapps again from all possible types as well as Underberg, Steinhagen, rum etc. We can't get away from the booze!'"
It's possible they had some big pre-war supply somehow, or that it was just a little bit of Underberg left over from before the war, but is it possible that "production ceased in 1939" is a convenient lie made up to make them look innocent during the Third Reich, and they actually continued? ~2025-31439-85 (talk) 15:21, 5 November 2025 (UTC)Reply
