Stricken

[edit]

"Core was stricken for disposal..."

What does 'stricken' in this context mean? In my dictionary 'stricken' is defined as "afflicted with disease, grief, etc". As it is unlikely that a ship is so affected, I wondered if it is an American-English expression. (I was curious as I do not possess an American-English dictionary, only a British-English version). If it means 'decommissioned', then that word might be a better fit.

I have seen the 'S' word on other pages and don't think it is right there, either.

What do other editors think?
