FOSS, really ?

[edit]

The page lead says that Travis is FOSS. However, it is said to be undeployable and the on-premises version involves licence keys. Probably there are parts missing from the source on github.

Is there a source for the claim that Travis is FOSS ?  Preceding unsigned comment added by 212.13.197.229 (talk) 13:05, 3 March 2016 (UTC)Reply

Are there really parts missing from the GitHub source?
I don't think it's a requirement that FOSS needs to work! If the Travis GitHub source should (hypothetically) require licence keys and not include such keys, then provided that a programmer can remove the test for those keys and thus make it work I think it would still count as FOSS. Bizarre perhaps, maybe not very helpful, but I think it would still fall within FOSS. Viam FerreamTalk 13:13, 3 March 2016 (UTC)Reply

The linked repository (https://github.com/travis-ci/travis-core) is now marked as DEPRECATED and has been archived on GitHub. I can find a variety of MIT-licensed components in their GitHub organization, but I'm unable to assess whether the whole of the Travis service is open-source. At the very least, the reference should be updated. --Remram44 (talk) 22:39, 1 August 2018 (UTC)Reply

Name origin

[edit]

I've been unable to find a reference on where the name "Travis" comes from, does anyone know? It's sort of a strange name and perhaps there's a story. Kenahoo (talk) 03:01, 12 April 2016 (UTC)Reply

Nodejs usage

[edit]

The references don't seem to back this up, and Nodejs actually use Jenkins (now). https://ci.nodejs.org/job/node-test-pull-request/4026/  Preceding unsigned comment added by 86.176.88.161 (talk) 16:37, 13 September 2016 (UTC)Reply
