Needed: Info on sprouted tofu

[edit]

For some years in America, stores have sold sprouted tofu. It is claimed to be beneficial for health in a variety of ways which I cannot remember at the moment. I've seen it in a variety of stores in the Seattle, Washington area.

Since I can't do anything about this at the moment, I'll leave this note here for others who would be interested. —Geekdiva (talk) 21:30, 21 December 2021 (UTC)Reply

Skeptical of dates given in histories

[edit]

What's the basis for tofu arriving in Japan in the 8th century? Can't access the book being quoted. Considering tofu was poorly attested to in China before the 10th century, I'm skeptical that we know for sure that Japan had it before then. 104.232.119.107 (talk) 13:12, 26 July 2024 (UTC)Reply

Got access to the book. At least for the claim in the Japan section, the book doesn't support it. 104.232.119.107 (talk) 15:10, 26 July 2024 (UTC)Reply
It should have better sources. There are instances of the characters 唐府 for tofu being used, suggesting it's from the Tang Era. Based on when Tang dynasty had cultural exchanges with Japan (and when the Tang dynasty ended), the theories put the introduction at the 8th century.
Not a good source, but this is something I found: https://www.sohu.com/a/600136714_121095697 Dplre (talk) 05:21, 10 February 2025 (UTC)Reply

"Cultivation of tofu..."

[edit]

Tofu isn't cultivated, and there are no tofu farms - soybeans are, and tofu is made from curdled soy milk, much the same way cheese is. In the strictest sense, it could be considered a type of plant-based cheese. ~2026-45692-07 (talk) 23:10, 12 September 2026 (UTC)Reply

Obviously correct! and Fixed. Thanks. Zefr (talk) 00:22, 13 September 2026 (UTC)Reply
