Laurie Partridge father gets drunk??

[edit]

The character Laurie Partridge has no character father on the show to get drunk. Her screen mother has a screen boyfriend played by Shirley Jones's real life husband Jack Cassidy. Jack Cassidy was a well known alcoholic (indeed he died in a fire caused by his drunkeness). That must be where this nonsensical sentence originated. Actually, the reference comes from the unused pilot - a line which was cut before it actually aired in 1970, where the kids were trying to convince Shirley to sing on their record. Shirley protests and Laurie insists that Mom has a "sweet voice", referencing a time when Shirley and their father got drunk and sang Christmas songs. A poor quality copy of the unused pilot is available now on Youtube, where Shirley's name was Connie and ironically included a scene with Jack Cassidy dropping her off at the front door. ~2025-43381-74 (talk) 22:51, 27 December 2025 (UTC)Reply
