Nell Shipman hanging off a cliff in The Grub-Stake
Nell Shipman hanging off a cliff in The Grub-Stake
  • Source: "Nell Shipman Papers, 1912-1970". Orbis Cascade Alliance. Archived from the original on May 30, 2025.
Created by Jon698 (talk). Number of QPQs required: 2. DYK is currently in unreviewed backlog mode and nominator has 97 past nominations.

Jon698 (talk) 17:08, 31 May 2025 (UTC).Reply

  • Article newly expanded and is certainly long enough. Two QPQs have been provided. No copyvio detected with Earwig only flagging a single source title (doesn't count). Hook is interesting enough, you should probably mention that she's the lead actress of the movie in question, i.e.
The proposed image is -extremely- unclear at 100px and is pretty unclear even at full size. Looking at the other images used in the article, I'd say run a no-image hook. Otherwise good to go. Juxlos (talk) 00:17, 1 June 2025 (UTC)Reply

  • OK. So great job writing a very interesting article.
@Therapyisgood: Just checking in to see if you have any further comments on the page. Jon698 (talk) 23:56, 11 October 2025 (UTC)Reply

Files

@Therapyisgood: I have added a contemporary source for the Nell Shipman cliffhanging image. Jon698 (talk) 02:57, 12 October 2025 (UTC)Reply
I hope that finding the contemporary releases for half of the images means that Wikipedia:Assume good faith can be applied for the others. Jon698 (talk) 03:01, 12 October 2025 (UTC)Reply
@Jon698: maybe you can cut the two remaining files or find them in old trade journals? Therapyisgood (talk) 13:56, 12 October 2025 (UTC)Reply
@Therapyisgood: I believe that those two images are extremely important to the article. These two photos show us both the people who made the film and the equipment they used. I have shown that Boise State University's claim that two of these images were copyrighted was incorrect. There is no evidence besides that that the others are still copyrighted. Jon698 (talk) 03:45, 13 October 2025 (UTC)Reply
I decided to remove the two images. Additional sources for Nell Shipman's Company.png claim that it is for the short film Trail of the North Wind. I would prefer for The Grub-Stake in Spokane.png to be in the article, but I cannot find the contemporary source at the moment. I believe this should allow the article to advance to GA. Jon698 (talk) 19:08, 14 October 2025 (UTC)Reply
@Jon698: I think you should implement any change that you wish to implement before passing this GA. The article nominator has been renamed and, thus, their account has been locked. It is impossible for them to respond so you should change the images or fail it. Thanks, User:Easternsaharareview this 04:48, 28 November 2025 (UTC)Reply
I don't know why you responded to this since the GA was passed in October. Jon698 (talk) 23:13, 28 November 2025 (UTC)Reply

Lead

  • capitalize "Western" per our article
  • The lead needs a few (ie 2 to 3) sentences on the plot summary highlighting major points.
  • A total of $180,000 is this in USD? also can you convert to current USD using Template:Inflation?
  • The lead needs a sentence from the "Reception" and the "Legacy" section.

Infobox

  • February 24, 1923 date is never cited anywhere in the body

to "Plot" Therapyisgood (talk) 23:51, 4 October 2025 (UTC)Reply

Plot

  • Link "grubstake" to grubstake on Wiktionary.
  • but is the subject of mockery due to him believing → but is the subject of mockery because he believes
  • WP:PLOTSUM suggests a 700 word max for plot summaries. This is under that, so that's very OK.

Cast

  • looks OK

to "Production" Therapyisgood (talk) 00:13, 5 October 2025 (UTC)Reply

I have attempted to answer your requests in this edit. Jon698 (talk) 00:03, 6 October 2025 (UTC)Reply

Production

  • Nell Shipman and Bert Van Tuyle's The Girl from God's Country, cut comma
Done in this edit
  • US$180,000 (equivalent to $3,381,352 in 2024) you can round this so no false specificity. also don't start a sentence with a number.
Done in this edit
  • Wellington PLayter are you sure this is how his name is supposed to be?
Done in this edit
  • 22 Alaskan Malamute dogs don't start a sentence with a number.
Done in this edit
  • They attempted to lien to the negative and final print the second "to" isn't needed.
Done in this edit
  • They attempted to lien to the negative and final print, but the laboratory denied that she was at the property and she would leave via the fire escape when necessary. this makes absolutely no sense.
I don't know what you mean. The sentence is stating that the laboratory would lie to the people attempting to lien the materials. She would also leave via the fire escape to avoid the people trying to lien it.

to Release Therapyisgood (talk) 15:00, 6 October 2025 (UTC)Reply

Release

  • hated the film as they left a showing of the film cut second "of the film"
Done in this edit
  • (equivalent to $1,384,131 in 2024) please round to nearest thousand at a minimum
Done in this edit
  • American Releasing went bankrupt before it received money earned from films released after February 1923. awkward sentence, not sure what it means.
The company did not receive any money earned from the films it released after a certain date.
  • anyone know the box office in the UK or once it was released under the alternative names?
I attempted to find that while writing the article, but nothing showed up. I tried searching through UK newspaper archives and found nothing.

to "Reception" Therapyisgood (talk) 15:04, 6 October 2025 (UTC)Reply

  • can you clarify which reviews were contemporary and which were more modern takes?
Added years for modern reviews in this edit
  • Can you find any other sources for this section? It's a bit scant.
The amount of reviews is limited due to the distributor going bankrupt and the financial failure of the film.

to Legacy

  • A surviving print of the film was discovered in the United Kingdom by the British Film Institute. any idea of the year?

overall

will do spotchecks after this and a search for more refs. Therapyisgood (talk) 15:09, 6 October 2025 (UTC)Reply
